Planting certain cut flower crops in the cool and short days of the year tells the plant to put its energy into developing leaves, and more importantly, a strong root system, rather than flowering. Establishing in the autumn allows the plant to leap into action once spring arrives, delivering an earlier harvest of cut flowers. Many annuals, biennials, and perennials benefit from fall planting.

🤔Q? LAST FROST DATE MAY 4,WHEN WOULD YOU START AND PLANT OUT campanula? In Spring?? I sowed in 3x3 rose pots canturberry bells cup snd saucer spring mix, of 22. They grew to about 3 inched.. nothing much more😢I had no place to put them so I took it out side put it in a tray in a part shaded area, 😆I watered occasionally. I finally planted it in a galvanized tub in my front garden bed along house steps, which gets sun in the afternoon, in Aug. It grew some.. 😊 over winter the deer chompt it down and we had a snow storm.. piles of snow from shoveling.. in the Spring it started growing😮I staked and fertilized it. That plant was 3-4 ft tall, gorgeous! They bloomed for 6 weeks until rain and cutting for bouquets took it tole. I had three under a tree that only got a foot tall and one in another bed along house.. that one was rangy but grew 24 ish inched.
I'm sowing them for early spring for a cutting garden.
