  • In a twist of events, my market got cancelled due to heavy wind gusts and rain. BUT, we all know that market prep starts days in advance with harvest. So with 3+ buckets of flowers, I went off to facebook marketplace to see if I could sell my blooms!

Do you know what variety of gomphrena that is? It seems more upright than mine!

This was raspberry gomphrena from Johnny’s seed. Note I have never grown gomprehna again as I hated harvesting them!

    Lol random rambling thoughts:
My first sale was two bouquets combined at the farmers market for a funeral/wake/something so you never know lol.
I had a lady that sells flowers at the market come up to me and ask about cardinal basil because she saw someone with one of my bouquets and thought she recognized some.
Speaking of basil, I had a similar experience with the lemon basil. It smelled so good but it was probably half the height of my cinnamon basil. In its defense it was on the drier end of the row, I got lazy about my mulch, and it went in later when it really started to heat up. I grew some Red Rubin but it was short as well and looked awful. It's this sickly purple and green color. Like cheap Halloween hues.
Do you think you could push the price of your bouquets/size up to like $20-$25? Larger cart size, so to speak, like you were saying before.
Also, how do you arrange the delivery. Like do you say in your listing that delivery will be available on x day between such and such times?
I'm with you on the bicolor. I'm not a huge fan.

I think we both probably need to give basil another chance lol. Hopefully next year it won’t be as dry!
I think I could potentially push the price up. I ended up running into another local flower farmer who previously sold at the same market a couple of years ago. She told me she had a few price points and the higher price points ($20 and above) never did well. Partially bc of that and observing shoppers at the market, I’m reluctant to push too high but I definitely plan to test diff price points on marketplace. I think I could create a $20-25 bouquet market there!

And on delivery, I do say, “delivery will be x day between y:00-x:00”. That has worked out really well for me!

I charged $15 at market last year for a standard market bouquet. I didn’t use any high end flowers; the fanciest were my glads, sunflowers & zinnias. This year I did the same thing, but I charged $20. I was terrified to charge $20, but I still had excited customers. I didn’t have as quick of sales, but I consistently made more money. I sell in a tiny town at a very tiny market. I think I had a few repeat customers this year. Thank you for the super helpful content around selling/economics of the flower hustle!

What kind of tablet are you putting in the water bucket? I can’t catch the name. Thanks!

CVBN! Kinda like a slow release Christkind tablet!

Q? You don't water at all?

    • @bareflowerfarm
      @bareflowerfarm  ปีที่แล้ว

We did not have irrigation set up and due to the slight drought we had, I thought it would be irresponsible to water non-veggies :(

If people come to pick up at your home, could you not just leave the bouquet on the front porch or something so that you don't have to interrupt your work day?

I know in the first video she let people select the one they wanted. Plus if it's warmer, you don't want to leave them outside unnecessarily, so she'd still have to stop and put them out.

Shawn more or less nailed it. It’s also been rainy and windy so didn’t want to chance it despite the weather getting better. But the plan is to figure out some sort of automated flower pick up system where I don’t need to be around

These are 15 dollar price correct?
