  • Easily build your own custom LED Neon Signs with Alexa, Hue and App integration.
    Simply follow this detailed, step-by-step guide. This video is sponsored by PCBway. 👇 More info below 👇
    In today's project, I'll show you how I made three different but effective large Neon LED wall signs. They have WiFi, Alexa and Philips Hue integration thanks to WLED running on the Wemos D1 Mini on the reverse.
    This is alongside a discreet but easy to access set of physical controls for switching the sign on/off or adjusting the brightness without having to chat to your voice assistant or finding your phone.
    List of items used in this project and where to find them:
    ■ 5v power supply : geni.us/5vPowerSupply5a (allow at least 2A per metre)
    ■ Neon effect LED strips: geni.us/NeonLEDStrip5v

    If you are going to update the PCB, you can use "mouse bites" to make it easy to separate the different power distribution pcbs.

    I’ve been on an LED/WLED kick for awhile now and I’ve been wanting to do an LED neon signs for a long time. I even have the strip, just haven’t done the cad. I have yet to make one of your projects, but I appreciate the effort and depth of your videos and I save a lot of them in my “hopefully one day” project folder. But, this one is at the top of the list and hopefully I can get one as soon as I touch up a WLED matrix Christmas tree and get it put away.
    Also, pretty sure the WLED app you show at 24:37 is the deprecated version and is no longer available on the App Store (the US store, at least) and the version they recommend is “wled-native”

    Great project. Can I use this with Google Home? Or is it only compatable with Alexa? Thanks for the idea. I'll be using this in several projects.

    Nice job but the one change I would suggest is to use 2 red wires for the switch. I can see some people who may not be strong with electronics getting confused that you connected the red wire from the barrel plugin to the black wire on the switch. In my electronic projects I always use the same colour wire for both terminals on switches to avoid any chance of them being hooked up wrong accidentally.

    • @DIYMachines
      @DIYMachines  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is an excellent idea, thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it. It would be easier to follow. I was a little lazy and was using the wires pre-attached to the DC barrel and power switch.

      @DarrenGerbrandt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DIYMachines Yeah, as I was watching I was wondering why is he connecting the positive wire to the negative wire and then realized, oh yeah it's a switch and doesn't matter. Thought I would point it out as others may get confused as well and not figure it out.

    Thanks, great level of details! Could you please explain why the logic level converter is required to drive mosfets?

    • @ChunkySteveo
      @ChunkySteveo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's no need to use the level shifter to drive those mosfets. Guessing he thought it was needed as it's good practice to use them with addressable LEDs and WLED. Those mosfets will trigger on 3.3V from the ESP8266.

    Heh, I added Alexa support to my 3m giant 13x2 Clock/Shelf version of your build two years ago to override the timed on/off cycles and the brightness. I used an ESP32, which by the way has way better wifi range than the 8266 and a second core for fancy animations. :D

    Another great project! Thank you!, May I ask, on the original desktop lamp Neon sign you produced, I made two of them, and on both signs when I try to dim using the potentiometer, they "blink" rather than dim. Could you suggest what I may have done wrong in order to fix this? I look forward to this project as well! Thank you!

    Definitely trying this I have been flying fpv for nearly 10 years and always built my own drones and racing drones so I'm OK with soldering and a small amount of firmware adjustment,would I be OK attempting this, I did build my own ground station for my antennas and a racing timer so I should be OK right ??
