What does a negative remnant cholesterol means? My total cholesterol is 455 (yeah I know it’s high). LDL 377, HDL 100, Triglycerides 74. My cholesterol was normal before adopted low carb high fat diet.

Remnant cholesterol falls into the fictitious realm as it is calculated using other fictitious numbers, such as LDL. If on the other hand you do an advanced lipoprotein particle test, which should include a value for remnant lipoproteins, then you've got something more tangible and potentially more meaningful. But remnant cholesterol as discussed in the video here is a value you can safely flush down the toilet.

Today my Doctor called me as soon as she got my cholesterol results suggesting I need to go on Statins immediately because my overall cholesterol was 305 but my HDL 44 LDL 246 which leaves my remnant cholesterol at 15. Does this mean I'm not building up plaque?

Thanks for the video! I hadn't heard of 'remnant cholesterol' before today. I'm assuming the 17 number @2:05 is mg/dL instead of g/dL. About 6 months ago, I switched to a largely keto diet - high protein, low carbs (almost no refined carbs), and intermittent fasting. Today I had some lab work done, and all my numbers looked good except my cholesterol, which was high. The Remnant cholesterol is only 13 mg/dL, however: 271 - (48 + 210). My TG/HDL was 1.3

Thanks for picking that up Suj, yes it's mg/dL 🙂

I am 60 yrs old, with high Total LDL , VLDL and non HDL . But I have low Triglyc, high HDL , low Fasting insulin and HbA1C normal. I eat healthy all my life and exercise. Why is my VLDL high?None of my doctors have an answer. I would greatly apreciate your opinion.Thank you.

guess what might be helpful in reducing RC? Blood letting.
seriously, donating blood. It is a win-win
