I got a rude awakening the last time I visited the ED, at my hospital of choice. I went in because of water retention/swelling of my ankles and calves. It had happened a couple of times before, but weeks and months had separated these episodes, if you will. I knew that after the end of what was a 9-hour visit, that they were just going to re-prescribe Furosemide. Since that was the only thing happening(no chest pressure, no shortness of breath, etc.), I should have asked for a refill, would have been a cost of $1.14 vs., what is probably a $800 visit, after insurance. sheesh! Anyway, the summary was written up, and it read "due to the history of chronic congestive heart failure(CHF)..." I was shocked! I have never been diagnosed with CHF. They have been calling it, "preserved ejection fraction, unspecified HF chronicity" the Dr. went on to say, it's under the umbrella of CHF. Smh. He apologized that I hadn't gotten the tough discussions in previous visits, just how severe this really is. If diagnosed with CHF, there's definitely a marker in terms of average years left on the life expectancy. He went on to say that the things I am doing now, walking 15,000-20,000 steps daily, eating clean, cutting down (or out) alcohol., plus taking yet (2) more medications that protect the heart. It is very sobering to know there's other choices I need to make, if I only have so long to live. I mean, tomorrow is not a guarantee to anyone, but that's all about accidents. When we are talking about hereditary issues, or issues brought on by choices made, or onset illness exacerbated by Covid19, ...the next chapter is yet to be discovered on how to plan and live. where i am going to live, who i will be seeing more, daily, nightly, and finding that it really needs to be the healthiest choice for the rest of my remaining life.

I'm a male, there is a chast pain i first got at 14,it was a sharp needle like piecing pain...its on and off, when it comes lasts for about 30 seconds still on and off then skips days until it goes for months. I made all tests ,radiographics and doctors say nothing to worry. Im now in my 30s but now i can feel the flow of my blood in my upper left side. I feel warm liquids flowing and this is after my heart starts racing even when im on bed. Is this really normal?

I drink alcohol daily probably about 6 or more 12oz beers a day for the past 6 or 7 years now (I am only 4 days sober today but im trying) I do get palpitations every so often, i have a large hiatal hernia and take medication for the acidity. For the past 4 days now I've been waking up with a discomfort in my chest. It's hard to explain but it only happens when I i try and fall asleep and am laying down. Was wondering if anyone has any tips or idea on if i can be related to my heart or my hernia. My doctor appointment isn't until next month. Thanks everyone

I had "White Coat Syndrome for years/decades. No matter why the visit (emergency or annual checkup) I re-reminded each doctor, primary or other, during appointments. Docs re-tested me at the end of appointments and my blood pressure tested "normal". One time, I performed a yoga(?) relaxation exercise in the waiting room when my primary was running late and when I got in his office, my initial blood pressure reading tested WNL (normal)!. Relaxation worked! However, now, over 5 decades later, my blood pressure and MVP have evolved to problematic. I sought a wonderful cardiologist at NW Chicago who has prescribed meds and assigned tests of every kind including for my MVP (In the past, Doc's were never too concerned about MPV. This Doc is thorough! As I research online, I get a good sense of where he's going and he's right on target IMO. The evolution of medical science during my lifetime, the increased focus on the growing elderly population and tech development may save me from the family stroke history. Love your You Tubes!!!!
