They changed the acceptable cholesterol reading from 300 to 200 in the 80's around the same time that statins came on the market. This cast a wider net of the population to put on statins. So what was wrong with 300 ??? In the 80's a reading of 261 was considered good! I'm so over the medical community and statins!

So interesting. I just had my blood test done and everything is fine but my dr wants to put me on statins because my LDL ( not the small type ) is high by his standard he thinks it’s genetic. I should have him watch this TH-cam video because I refuse to take any drugs. I don’t take anything right now not even a Tylenol and I’m going to keep it that way. I’m almost 70 years old and proud to say I’ve never felt better in my life.

Actually, passed a certain age high LDL is associated with longevity, in several observational studies. It's also been shown that LDL particles are involved in the immune response. They can for instance bind to some pathogen antigens and thus help with their clearance by the liver. So LDL is not necessarily the vilain that the big pharma corrupted medical dogma has been painting all along. We really need to do our own research rather than just saying amen to drug dealers.

Why does it matter? Unless you are diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia, the serum cholesterol is very strongly influenced by the dietary cholesterol, i.e. when you consume cholesterol-rich food, your serum cholesterol will increase. In the AHA article that Dr. Berg provided, it was found that there was generally "no significant association of dietary cholesterol or egg intake with CVD outcomes in terms of CHD, myocardial infarction, and stroke risk." Therefore, it makes sense to conclude total serum cholesterol is also not strongly associated with CVD.

Dr. Berg, please address the video that claims your conflating dietary cholesterol with serum cholesterol. I’m sure you’re aware of the Dr. that claims you’re confused and are misdirecting people due to your misinterpretation of the AHA article you reference. Also he challenges your interpretation of the particle sizes and provides ample reputable studies that show your conclusions are erroneous concerning correlations vs. causality. I wish you would either address these challenges, either by a pulling this one if you acknowledge your error or at least produce a follow up video.

You are misinterpreting the journal that you are referencing. You are confusing DIETARY cholesterol vs SERUM cholesterol. The journal that you are referencing talks about DIETARY cholesterol not being significantly associated with cardiovascular disease. You are referencing your wife's SERUM cholesterol which is NOT the same thing as DIETARY cholesterol. That's like saying the amount of potassium that you consume from food equates to the number of your serum potassium which is false. Also your discussion about lipoproteins with high density lipoproteins vs low density lipoproteins is not accurate either- it is more complicated than that- not really just size but the NUMBER. Please be more careful with what you are interpreting because this is leading to misinformation.

when I see client with high cholesterol, high LDL, low HDL, high triglycerides... first thing I'd do is observe their behavior. then enquire about their sleep, exercise, work and then dietary regime.
I'd normally prescribe high dose antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories first with Fish Oil (Sardines Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Salmon Oil), Olive Oil and 30-40gm fiber. Tell them to reduce starchy carbohydrates, honey, sugars. Eat more fish and reduce animal meat, dairy products. Sometimes I add Chinese Medicine if necessary. After a week, check for better/improved behavior and lifestyle changes. Mind-Body Medicine is relevant to Lipid Profile and human behaviour is good indicator of small dense lipoprotein or fluffy ones.

Dr Berg has helped me so much with my liver problems just taking otc supplements, intermittent fasting and keto, I’ve only been doing it 30 days and have had remarkable results. I’m not looking for excuses to go back to my regular eating habits that got me into trouble in the first place. I’m keto forever, though I may have a cheat day every few months. Unfortunately when you said (The American Heart Association guidelines actually state that “total cholesterol is not significantly associated with heart disease.”) that is completely wrong. They say that keeping your optimal total cholesterol needs to be around 150. You confused serum cholesterol with dietary cholesterol. The study you linked to "prove" your case shows that you are mixing these two up.

The study by the AHA that you quote and link to this video clearly state that this a report regarding DIETARY CHOLESTEROL. There is absolutely no relationship between the numbers from a blood test (Serum) and Dietary intake of cholesterol. If the food is also high in saturated fats, it may increase cholesterol. But as you can see from this video, total cholesterol isnt associated with heart disease. Its way more complicated than doctors make it seem.

I have been experimenting with keto diet for around 9 years.. Last cholesterol test was 300 something too with much lower triglycerides/HDL ratio than it is recommended wich matters more. Feeling great, healthy, looking much younger than my age. What dr.Berg proposes is the closest to the diet that I follow. I like him for staying consistent and not falling for some crazy diet trends like keto carnivore or vegan carnivore..
Planningg to stay on this diet plan forever of course..

I cannot stop watching your videos over the past week. You make so much sense in an understandable form You've already got me to start intermittent fasting, Cutting sugars, and increasing potassium (also beer and sweet alcohol is gone). I'm working on my fatty liver. Thanks Doc. I'm feeling better in such a short time and cannot wait to see how I'm doing in 30 days. So far, I cannot believe my results.

Uhh, why is there a study in the description talking about dietary cholesterol in relation to CVD when the talking points in this video are about serum cholesterol in relation to CVD? Is this just a mistaken link or a confusion of some kind? I don't think the study provided is relevant to the points made in the video. Dietary and serum cholesterol are completely separate constructs.

On average, an uninsured patient wanting a full blood panel, costs around $1,500. But it can also go up to $3000 when other things are examined.

I am insured, but most primary care doctors won't want you to do a full blood work unless you are already in the deep hole. If you are borderline or have a slightly high number of cholesterol then they won't care much. I recently just paid Quest Diagnostics out of pocket cash of about 998 dollars for a full body blood work for every organ in my body for a test. I have borderline prediabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and low good cholesterol; my doctor recommended me on statins and to diet. Not much of a help so I recently went on a keto/low carb/high protein diet. It's somewhat working, but the body changes is brutal. I get constant headaches, low blood pressure, painful blood pressure spike at random meal time, fatigue, mood swing, chest pain, chest pressure, and much more. I will continue to take statins while being on my modified diet/exercise/stress free. Best of luck for you all who are trying to lower bad cholesterol!
