Hi Stefen Paul from Kent again loved the approach I loved your briefing at the end of the flight and loved your words great team work you are a real inspiration to the aviation industry very well done I also liked the places of interest you highlight keep up the great work 🎉
Thanks for another great video, and fantastic to see something a little different. One of my favourites was the night approach that you did into LHR and their magic taxi light system.
Thank you so much for your great feedback and your financial support of the channel as a member! I agree, the night approach to LHR was really nice and even included an autoland due to the low clouds. Have a nice day!
Fascinating video, thanks. Danke. Am a regular passenger at Düsseldorf Flughafen as have friends near Aldekerk(Niederrhein) . Flew there last month from LHR with Eurowings. Flight was good and we landed on time but when we got inside the terminal building the passport control was closed! Had to wait about 40 minutes for border staff to arrive! ✈️
Thanks for your good feedback! Great to hear that you had a good flight with Eurowings from LHR to DUS. I am sorry about the waiting time for the border control staff. This is unusual. Thanks for watching! I also like night approaches very much! Please tell everybody about the video. Thanks in advance for your support! Have a nice day!
My duty schedule is always a surprise. It may take a while. There is one nice Rovaniemi arrival and a departure video available here on the channel. Please stay tuned.
Absolutely love these night flights. At 18:44, what is that object that shoots across the screen from 2 o'clock to 8 o'clock? Seemed to come from the far bank of the river...? Might just be a bird caught in the landing lights?
Good morning, which software do you use to plan your flight? Do you have to hand over the flight plan you have created to air traffic control before you take off? I keep asking myself how else the individual airspace ATCs would know where you want to fly within the respective airspace (route, navaids etc.)? Do you have to turn on APU before switching of both engines? Thanks for the nice videos. 😃
Thank you so much for watching and your good feedback! The flights are planned by our operations control center. They use a software from Lufthansa Systems / Lido. Those flight plans are transferred electronically before the flight by the company to ATC. The ATC flight plan shows our speed and the entry times for the different airspaces we plan to fly through. This information is transmitted before the flight to all the ATC sectors. If they are unable to accommodate us, they refuse the flight plan or a takeoff slot may be issued to us. Yes, we have to start the APU for engine start. The engines are started by a starter which requires high pressure air. This air is generated by the APU. Have a nice day!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thank you for your kind reply. But my question was more about the procedure for shutting down the engines (typo in my message above, sorry) after you have reached the parking position at your destination airport. I assume that you are perhaps not yet connected to an external power supply so quickly. If you then switch off the engines without restarting the APU first, systems such as air conditioning etc. are no longer available because the aircraft is only running on the two batteries. Or is it simply no longer important to keep the air conditioning running, for example, because the passengers are leaving the aircraft anyway? Thanks for the nice videos, one learns so much from them.
Standard procedure is that we start the APU during taxi to the gate and we switch off the second engine at the gate when the APU electrical power is available. It the APU would be broken, we would wait until the ground power cable is connected to the airplane. We do not want to switch off both engines without APU or external electrical power available because - as you explained - the airplane would be on battery power only and most systems would shut down, including the normal lights (not the emergency lights) in the cabin. Also, it would be not possible for the ground crew to open and close the cargo holds in a normal way. (Yes, there is an alternate method with a hand pump. But nobody uses it.)
Thanks for watching and for your financial support of the channel as a member! Most of the time, the weather is not really bad for flying. Sure, the visibility may be impaired or it may be a little windy. If this happens, I also record videos. Here on the channel you can see for example an approach to London LHR in fog or a windy landing at DUS airport. I had not to do any go around during the 10 months of this year. Even not at Funchal or Samos airport.
@@ouraganouragan2178 In general, go arounds are very rare. Sure, during stormy weather or at certain airports with challenging winds, like Funchal or Samos, the probability for go arounds is higher. But at “normal” airports, go arounds are happening not very often.
hi there Capt! hope you're doing welll! as always thanks for bringing us over a stunning night GPS approach video! I like watching a GPS approach the most! but I've got a question about lining up on the centerlilne when both FDs off and Bird on! so in this situation you look out to line up on the centerline and looking at the PFD and see the bird is aligned up on the Track properly at the same time is that correct? and alway looking out visually has to be the first priority reference when doing that kind of approach ?? hope I could get an answer from you sir! thank you
Thanks! I am doing well! When we do a GPS approach, we have to use the flight director to align and to fly the approach unless there is a Course Deviation Indicator available which relates to the GPS approach track. The main reference for this approach are the instruments and - for sure - the GPS. There is no outside reference required until arriving at the minimum descent altitude. Once we are established on the final track and we are coming close to the minimum descent altitude with the runway in sight, we can continue with flight director on until landing or we can switch it off and may use the bird with the runway track. This final part after reaching the minimum descent altitude will be done visually. The main reference is now the outside view.
Thank you very much for your great feedback and for your financial support of the channel as a member! I hope to be scheduled soon again to OTP. But my duty schedule is always a surprise. So it may take some time until we can shake hands! Many greetings to Bucharest!

Watching videos like this make me want to become a pilot so much more ❤❤ only just started my ppl so should be flying A320’s by the time I’m 23 at least keep up the good work ❤😊
Thanks for sharing your good feedback! Great to hear that you started your PPL. This is a good start into the aviation career! I hope to see you soon as a pilot in the Airbus cockpit!
Guten Morgen!
After landing, do you do anything to equalise cabin pressure and outside pressure before opening the doors or is it done automatically? And what is the the "all doors and park" statement you normally make after parking at the gate?
Good questions! Cabin pressure is equalized automatically after landing and the outflow valve of the cabin is usually fully open when we arrive at the parking position. All doors in park means that the cabin crew disarms the slides. If they would not be disarmed prior to opening the doors, the evacuation slides would be inflated when the doors are opened.
Question: when the co-pilot is in control, does that mean that the stick on the captains side is inactive? And if both sticks are active, what happens if you get different inputs on both sticks? Which control input will prevail?
The sidestick are always active. If both are moved they are "algebraically summed" (not averaged as people seem to think) and you'll get a DUAL INPUT warning from the FWC.
If the first officer would move his sidestick completely to the right and I would move my sidestick fully to the left, the plane would continue straight ahead. There is a takeover-pushbutton on the sidestick. We can use this button to deactivate the sidestick of the other pilot. This could be used in case of a pilot incapacitation. The general rule is that only one pilot uses his or her sidestick at a time. If the other pilot uses his or her stick, a verbal control transfer has to be done before.
Best and chillest captain ever!!!
Good question! RNP stands for required navigation performance. If you can reach the required navigation performance for the approach without GPS, for example with an IRS system or so, you can fly the approach. If the charts states GNSS or GPS required, you have to use a GPS system for the navigation. GNSS stands for global navigation satellite system. Instead of the American GPS, also the European Galileo may be used.
As an airline pilot, we have to fly day and night. I like to see all the lights of the city ... during the night. But in general, I prefer to fly during daylight at a nice day with blue skies, no clouds and good visibility.

Did you used the GPS Appr because the ILS wasn’t unserviceable?
This is correct! The ILS was not usable.
After landing, do you do anything to equalise cabin pressure and outside pressure before opening the doors or is it done automatically? And what is the the "all doors and park" statement you normally make after parking at the gate?
All automatic unless there is a fault.
Oh okay thanks👍🏻
Question: when the co-pilot is in control, does that mean that the stick on the captains side is inactive?
And if both sticks are active, what happens if you get different inputs on both sticks? Which control input will prevail?
The sidestick are always active. If both are moved they are "algebraically summed" (not averaged as people seem to think) and you'll get a DUAL INPUT warning from the FWC.
@ Thanks for your answer.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Super, vielen Dank! Schönes Wochenende!
18:45 what was that flying by? :D
I do not know. Maybe a small bird or so.
Moin.
Thank you. Vielen Dank für Vidoe. Flight simulator Pilotten sehr hilfreich ✈️✈️✈️Just love Flight.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! Have a nice day!
Best and chillest captain ever!!!
Nochmals vielen Dank! Das höre ich natürlich alles sehr gerne! Bis hoffentlich bald im Cockpit!
Moin,
What's the difference between GPS and RNP-Approach?
Good question! RNP stands for required navigation performance. If you can reach the required navigation performance for the approach without GPS, for example with an IRS system or so, you can fly the approach. If the charts states GNSS or GPS required, you have to use a GPS system for the navigation. GNSS stands for global navigation satellite system. Instead of the American GPS, also the European Galileo may be used.
WTF Schaut mal genau hin !
I thought you dont fly during the night..
As an airline pilot, we have to fly day and night. I like to see all the lights of the city ... during the night. But in general, I prefer to fly during daylight at a nice day with blue skies, no clouds and good visibility.
