Dear Captain first of all thank you for a superb video as always saturday doesn t disappoint, I finished flight training on august 1st and passed the first two steps of the selection process afterwards. Its been 3 months since applying and 2 weeks now since the screening and I wonder if you know why the process takes so long although there is a big shortage. Two former flight school colleagues of mine passed the screening in May and just signed their contract, but the typeratimg starts in spring and summer 2025. Is there not enough training personal at EW or what is the reason:) Im quite curious since I want to join EW and I am waiting for the last step without any feedback unless the approval that I passed the screening. I love the discipline of using the checklists. Especially the after-landing. It's only one item and easy enough to remember, but the First Officer in every video pulls it up to see and read it every time.

I think computer resets are something which everybody has to do once in a while who works with electronic systems which contain some kind of hard and software. The Airbus houses lots of computers for the various systems. Almost everything is somehow controlled and monitored by different computers. Important is that this are different computers and not one large computer. For example, the flight controls are driven by 7! different independent computers. The software engineers also designed the computers in a way that the monitoring system uses another CPU and another computer language than the controlling system.
You guys amaze me! I did not know you have to deal with the minutiae of broken toilets and galley problems in addition to the important job of actually flying the aircraft. Awesome! 👍

We have to document these things in the electronic technical logbook. Subsequently, the entries are transferred to maintenance and they repair it. We also have to check if we can fly with a technical malfunction or / and if we are restricted somehow. For example, a broken seatbelt at a passenger seat would make this seat unusable for passengers.

I really enjoy these videos. Extremely well made and very informative. The only problem I have is hearing what the pilots are saying to each other when there is a lot of radio chatter.

They just contain the original audio from the cockpit which is exactly the same what we hear in our headsets. I cannot change the different volume levels in post production. I only can make it louder or less loud in total. Right now, I am working on a solution to reduce the noise to almost zero. This may make it easier to understand what we say. Please stay tuned! Vielen Dank fürs gute Feedback! Standard ist, dass wir am Anfang der Bahn stehen bleiben, in die Bremsen treten und 50 % N1 setzen. Wenn die 50 % N1 auf beiden Triebwerken erreicht sind, gehen wir aus den Bremsen und beginnen den Startlauf. Allerdings ist es alternativ auch zulässig, einen "rolling takeoff" zu machen. Das sollten wir in der Crew natürlich absprechen. Einen schönen Tag noch!

The beach house capt. The astros on Gemini and Apollo use to spent the weeks before the launch under low carbohydrate diet. The breakfast just before the launch was an exception. Steak eggs and orange juice plus coffee. The space shuttle venues were different but under the same principle. Nice cruise chatter !!

An Edinburgh video with Loganair landing, lovely departure, the FO explaining the process to becoming a Eurowings pilot, a sudden ECAM message and a very smooth landing! Personally the slightly wobbly camera isn’t an issue, it gives me a better feeling of perspective actually - it’s like having a go pro strapped to your head and feeling it move as you do, if that makes sense. You mentioned flying as a passenger recently and it made me wonder, as a passenger are you acutely aware of what the aircraft is doing? Such as flap positions, recognising thrust settings by the sound, cabin crew “dings” etc? Or do you switch off the professional side entirely and just enjoy the journey? This is automatically because I know all the calls to the cabin, the dings, the different sounds, the flap positions .... Sometimes I even lookup the arrival or departure chart in my Ipad. But I also enjoy the journey as a passenger and love to watch out of the windows. Usually I see things which I never saw as a pilot because I am sitting on the left side in the cockpit and the things are on the right side or so.

Really enjoyed the video today. Edinburgh is my home city and I live fairly close to the airport although I can’t see the planes landing as Corstorphine Hill obscures the view. I really like the approach to runway 24. Great views of the city. Might I say that Edinburgh Airport might be outgrowing itself, with the amount of arriving and departing aircraft which is possibly the reason why your flight was delayed on the ground. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of space for a second runway.
I'm only about four miles from the airport (my view is obscured by the Braid Hills). It's hard to see how the airport expands further (whether it should for environmental reasons is a different thing). I can't see where they'd put a second runway, the first runway is end of life and runway 12/30 is long gone, the terminal is far too crowded, there's a significant bottleneck on the taxiways around A15/A16 and road access to the airport is still only via one road.

Lots of airports were built 50 years ago or so and at that time nobody expected the growth in airplane traffic to the level which we see now. Some cities moved the airports to an aera with more room, like how it was done at Berlin in Germany. Berlin closed 2 airports for the new BER airport. Milan in Italy did it differently: They opened the Malpensa airport but still keep Linate airport open for a reduced number of airplane operations. My personal opinion is that the few flights which I did to and from Edinburgh were ok in regard to arrival and departure delays caused by airport traffic. It is very similar to other airports.
I prefer the NEO leap engines. Especially the A321 NEO is a wonderful airplane. It climbs really good, even with 232 passengers. And the fuel flow is much lower than on the A321 CEO airplanes.
Hello, I still love your videos. All these videos allowed me to learn the "procedures" that I now apply in MSFS 2020. I have a question, is the departure briefing done before or after the IFR clearance request?
And another question, the dotted arc of a circle that we see at 1:11:22 under heading 120 on the ND, what does it correspond to? I never found the meaning...
For the departure briefing, you need to know the expected departure routing. As soon as you know it, you can do the briefing. Sometimes, we get the IFR clearance not before we are already taxiing to the runway. In this case, we ask ATC what we may have to expect. Once we get the clearance, we double-check if the briefing and setup were done in accordance with the clearance.
Ich möchte mich erstmal für dieses und alle bisherigen Videos bedanken. Die sind echt jedes mal wieder klasse und ich lerne jedes mal neues dazu. Ich nutze die Videos auch gerne um meine Flüge im Simulator zu verbessern. Was mir da allerdings noch fehlen würde, wäre ein Video, in dem ihr das Flugzeug aus dem Cold und Dark Zustand bis zum Takeoff bringt, genauso wie nach der Landung Abends den Flieger wieder aus zu machen. Great video, tho i dont understand one thing. Doesnt the 320 have rudder pedals on the right side? So if the first officer is pf, why do you say your controls at takeoff, is it a eurowings specific procedure?
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! The A320 has rudder pedals and a tiller for the nose wheel steering on both sides. Here, the Captain is always taxiing the airplane, even if the First Officer is pilot flying. All large airlines do operational risk assessments in regard to the procedures. The result is that some airlines allow the First Officers to taxi the airplane, others do not allow it and restrict the taxiing to the Captain.

Another great video. I was going to mention the PFD/ ND camera but you already covered that. technology never works great 100% of the time. Could you explain "FLEX" as in the setting for take off. I know it is to do with the power but how is it calculated? Many thanks in advance
Thanks for your financial support of the channel as a member! This is really important! The PFD/ND camera in the next videos will be again way more stable. FLEX takeoffs are reduced thrust takeoffs. We do them to reduce the engine wear. With higher outside air temperatures the engine power is reduced. So we just tell the engine that it should assume that there will be a certain higher outside air temperature. For example: The real outside air temperature is 15 degrees Celsius. To reduce the power for takeoff, we tell the engine that it shall assume that the outside temperature would be 50 degrees Celsius. Then the engine will provide less power because if the temperature would be really 50 degrees Celsius, the engine would deliver less power than at 15 degrees Celsius. We have a computer program which calculates the possible FLEX temperatures. This takes into account the weight of the airplane, the full weather data, including the wind, plus the runway length and obstacles in the departure sector.

Um 1:04:00 herum programmiert der PF den Custom-Waypoint für D75nm VALSU. Wie genau ist der schlaue Weg, diesen Waypoint schnell zu erstellen?Pilot Waypoints -> Place/BRG/Dist oder gibt es einen schnelleren / einfacheren Weg? Vielen lieben Dank fürs super Feedback! Es gibt unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten, den Punkt einzugeben. Am einfachsten ist es, auf der Fix Info Seite den Wegepunkt Valsu einzugeben und einen 75 NM Kreis (Radius). Neben dem Wort Radius und den eingegebenen 75 NM erscheint dann ein Pfeil. Wenn man auf die Lineselect Taste daneben drūckt, wird in die vorhandene Route ein Wrgepunkt eingefügt, der auf der Route liegt und sich 75 NM vor Valsu befindet Der Name des Punktes ist dann D075VAL. Die Höhenvorgabe für den Punkt kann man dann über den rechten Lineselect Key neben dem neuen Punkt eingeben.
Great video. Out of curiosity, why on take off did the PF fly at 10 degrees pitch, which was above that commanded by the FD? Was it because you were running late and the sooner you reach FL100 you can accelerate past 250kt?
Thanks for your good feedback and your question! The chance to get an early shortcut in the departure routing increases with increased altitude. The faster we gain altitude, the earlier a shortcut is possible.

Yet another fantastic video. A couple of questions if I may? Firstly, as a non-native English speaker, your English is flawless, however, as you fly to/over numerous different countries have you ever struggled or found it difficult to understand any regional accents - especially when speaking to other non native English speakers? And secondly you mention the long wait on the ground, and then subsequently tell the controller that you’re late and would appreciate shortcuts, was the lateness due to that wait? Are there any penalties for the company if the flight is late? Many thanks.
First of all: Thank you very much for your good feedback and your financial support of the channel as a member! Videos like this one would be impossible without the support of the members! Understanding the different regional accents is just a matter of experience. When flying the first time to a certain country, it is sometimes difficult to understand everything. After several flights it is much easier. In regard to air traffic control, it is even easier because everybody is using the same words. So we know already before what we may have to expect next. Most of the flights which I do are on time or earlier. Here the departure delay was about 30 minutes. The arrival delay was less. This happens once in a while. Several things added up: The ground ops (loading and boarding) took a little longer and the startup and pushback was delayed due to ATC and apron restrictions. Then we were number 4 for departure and had to wait for some landings. The most delays which I saw during the last time were ATC slots. This means we cannot fly at the planned time and have to stay on the ground for some time because ATC is unable to handle us at this time on the planned routing. Various reasons may cause this: Not enough ATC controllers at work, weather on the routing or at the destination, technical restrictions in the ATC system ..... The European law regulates delays: If the delay is caused by the airline and more than 3 hours at the destination, the passengers are entitled to a compensation. If it is longer than 2 hours, they have to get something to drink. During the last years, I never experienced a 2 or 3 hour delay as a pilot. We always try to fly as punctual as possible. Some passengers have connecting flights or continue with a train. So it is essential that we are on time or just a few minutes late. Our flight plans contain some buffers to cope with possible delays. They enable us to be on time or earlier even with a few minutes departure delay.

Yes, the first officer is very friendly! And he is a good pilot! I do not know the reason for the SEC fault. Sometimes, we request and get a feedback from maintenance. Here, we did not ask for it because it was just a successful computer reset.
Danke für das tolle Video. Im Steigflug ist mir aufgefallen, dass ihr immer über dem FD fliegt - ist das "Standard procedure" oder einfach eine Angewohnheit des PF?
Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und das gute Feedback! Normalerweise folgen wir dem Flight Director. Es sei denn, es gibt einen Grund dafür, es nicht zu tun. Im Abflug folgt der Kollege zunächat dem Flight Director. Bei 19:10 sagt er, dass er bewußt eine höhere Pitch einnimmt als vom Flight Director angezeigt. Wir folgten der Departure Route. Allerdings ging die noch in Richtung Westen. Also in die eigentlich "falsche" Richtung. Je schneller man Höhe erreicht, desto eher gibt es Abkürzungen in die "richtige" Richtung. Später kam dann auch noch mal die Aufforderung von ATC dazu, eine hohe Rate noch für einem Moment zu fliegen. Man hätte auch an der FCU eine niedrigere Geschwindigkeit eindrehen oder eine bestimmte Rate vorwählen können. Der Kollege wollte jedoch eine Pitch von etwa 10 Grad fliegen. Das kann man dem Flight Director nicht vorgeben.

Thanks for the good feedback! I do not know why a straight push was required. Maybe because we had to make room for other traffic or it is just the standard at this parking position at the airport for unknown reasons. Sometimes, airports have special local procedures which we do not know about. And which we do not need to know because ATC is telling us about it and/or the ground crew knows them.
Interesting video - I was delayed in Las Palmas by 2 hours last week, as there was some burning smell coming from the toilets. So we had to go back to the remote stand. In a months time, I'm flying on an ATR 72-600 to Guernsey island from Gatwick. It's my first time flying on a turboprop plane. Can I ask in what comparison the ATR is compared to an Airbus? It is inconvenient for the passengers, but safety shall be always first. I cannot compare the ATR to an AIRBUS. My knowledge of the ATR is very limited. I flew several times as a passenger with an ATR and it was always ok. Depending on the seat location it may be a little noisy. The Q version of the ATR is providing an anti noise system in the cabin. It works similar to the ANR headsets, just through the loudspeakers. Have a nice day!
Ich war länger nicht mehr in Leipzig. Aber sobald ich dort mal wieder hinfliege, werde ich versuchen, ein Video aufzunehmen. Das kann aber noch etwas dauern, da wir sehr viele Destinationen anfliegen und der Dienstplan immer eine große Überraschung ist.
Most of the flights are coming back to the homebase at the end of the flight-duty. Some flights require overnights at other airports. We also have to fly sometimes from other bases, stay in the hotel at the base and do flights which depart and arrive at the base before travelling back to the homebase.
I enjoyed the flight. Just a shame that it was overcast over the Dutch coast. I had hoped to see a bit of the Netherlands. I noticed however that you passed the SPL VOR (at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport) by the north. That was further north than that I expected. And at the end the FMS tuned in to the MAS (Maastricht) VOR close to the town of Schinveld, just abot 8 km of my hometown Hulsberg!
I also would like to add the ECAM screens to the videos. They are already recorded by the PFD/ND camera. Due to ugly reflections, the pictures of the ECAM are not useable. Due to the very limited possible camera locations, I did not find a good solution for this until now. I will continue to search for a feasible solution. But it may take a while.

Bei einem plötzlichen Druckabfall in der Kabine fallen die Masken herunter und es ertönt zeitgleich eine automatische Ansage, die die Passagiere darauf hinweist, dass es einen Druckabfall gab und dass sie die Masken bitte benutzen sollen. Das ist unabhängig von dem was von den Piloten oder den Flugbegleitern gesagt wird.
Good question! I thought also about this several times. But this is the only departure which provides a routing in the required direction for our flight. So it looks like that they use it also for jets.
@ I think I found the answer. In the RAD it states that this departure can be used by jet aircraft provided they route via Y96, otherwise it’s restricted to Props. Thanks for another fantastic video!!

Thanks for watching and your financial support as a member! I said TARA. This is to confirm that the switch on the transponder panel has been placed in the TARA position. It is not shown on the screen. The screen shows "TA only" during the initial takeoff because the plane cannot do a resolution advisory at very low altitude because a resolution advisory may require a descent or a level off.
Hallo, ich bin seit gewisser Zeit interessiert Pilot zu wersen. Momentan in der Ausbildung zum Elektroniker. Ich strebe an den Meisterbrief zu machen nach der Ausbildung. Danach möchte ich möglicherweise meinen Traum jagen und versuchen Pilot zu werden. Leider hab ich kein Abitur sondern nur ein sehr sehr gutes Realschulzeugnis. Nun stelle ich mir die Frage ob der Meisterbrief nicht ausreicht bei z.B Lufthansa, Eurowings da dieser eigendlich gleich zu setzen ist mit der Hochschulreife?
Vielen Dank für das sehr persönliche Feedback! Ich finde, es ist eine gute Idee, erst einmal den Meisterbrief zu machen und dann möglicherweise eine Ausbildung zum Piloten zu starten. Die aktuelle Copiloten-Auschreibung bei Eurowings erfordert: "Allgemeine Hochschulreife oder Fachhochschulreife". Genaue Details kenne ich auch nicht. Mein persönliches Verständnis davon ist jedoch: Wenn Du mit Deinem jetzigen Abschluß oder dann später mit dem Meisterbrief in Kombination mit Deinem jetzigen Abschluß auch an einer Fachhochschule studieren könntest, wären die Voraussetzungen erfüllt. Am besten fragst Du mal bei den Airlines nach der Anerkennung Deines Abschlusses.

Danke für das Update! Bei der Pilotenausbildung hast Du zwei Möglichkeiten: Entweder machst Du es bei einer Schule, die mit einer Airline zusammenarbeitet oder zur Airline gehört. Diese Airline gibt Dir dann nach dem Abschluß auch meist einen Job, weil Du schon vor Beginn der Ausbildung das Auswahlverfahren durchlaufen hast. Meiner Meinung nach ist das die beste Möglichkeit, weil der Job im Cockpit am Ende garantiert ist, soloange Du alle Checks bestehst und die Airline Piloten sucht. Die andere Option ist eine Schule, die nicht direkt zu einer Airline gehört. Das ist eine gute Option, wenn die vorher genannte Option nicht geklappt hat oder die Airline, zu der Du möchtest, diese Option nicht anbietet. Diese Ausbildung lässt sich in Teilen als Fernkurs, also online, darstellen. Das kann man ganz gut auch neben einer normalen Tätigkeit machen. Der Ausbildungsteil direkt in der Schule verringert sich durch den Fernkurs massiv. Ich habe das auch so gemacht und konnte in meinem ursprünglichen Beruf während der ATPL-Ausbildung die ganze Zeit weiter arbeiten. Billiger war es am Ende auch noch und ich habe weiter Geld verdient.
Und natürlich empfehle ich jedem luftfahrtinteressierten Menschen, erstmal einen Privatpilotenschein zu machen. Das geht eventuell auch in einem Verein.

So the FO was more than a FO right? Recruitment manager or a higher manager or something? He gave a feeling as if he's at a higher position than a A320 captain + Instructor in the company EW. Some of his jokes or remarks gave it away for me, it could be false though.
As a Copilot myself I cannot see what you mean. Both pilots are equals in the cockpit (except in certain situations) and a bit of fun and jokes are totally normal. Also the Copilot is always encouraged to make decisions too. There is no huge authority difference in modern airlines anymore.
I think that the impression @SIMTRIBE got is not right. The FO is a great pilot and a nice colleague. I have flown with him often and it was always a pleasure. I love to see a good amount of qualified inputs from the first officers. This is really important for a good CRM. Especially if the first officer is pilot flying, he shall have a good picture about what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. I am finally legally responsible, but it is his flight as pilot flying. Sure, everybody has a slightly different communication style. You can see this in my different videos. This first officer is also a simulator instructor and a member of the selection pilot team. I also was with him in the simulator and can tell you that he is a wonderful instructor who knows how to teach.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I must apologize, I guess my message lead to something different. This video, your comms, collaboration in the cockpit, sharing of decisions, everything was perfect. And at the end who am I to judge... What I just felt was, that some of the jokes and relaxed manners came across as a higher-up kind of behaviour. Didn't mean it as a bad thing, it didn't affect anything in the cockpit, you both were perfect. It was just an observation of managerial manners sometimes.
Every large airline does operational risk assessments in regard to the operating procedures. This includes the question who is allowed to taxi the airplane on the ground. Some airlines allow the first officers to taxi the airplane other airlines restrict the taxiing to the captain. This is the case of our operations. Here, the first officer is responsible for the thrust levers after liftoff when he or she is pilot flying. Before, the captain controls the thrust levers and is taxiing the airplane. After landing, the captain takes over the controls from the first officer before the plane is exiting the runway.
Why does the PF not get to control the thrust levers on takeoff. Could this not cause a delay if the PF wants to abort the takeoff but the captain has control of the thust?
A takeoff abort is always performed by the captain, even if the first officer is pilot flying. My understanding is that this is the same at every airline. So there is no delay in case of an abort.
The decision to abort or to continue a takeoff is always done by the captain. Even if he or she is the designated pilot monitoring for the flight. The general rule is that the first officer has to state the technical problem, if he or she sees that something is wrong. The captain then has to decide to continue or to abort the takeoff. And the captain has to execute the abort, if he decides for an abort. The only situation at which the first officer could decide on its own to abort the takeoff and even executes the abort would be during an incapacitation of the captain. We train this scenario in the simulator.
How do you control hydration without needing to go to the toilet all the time on long flights? Does it just come with experience? Have you ever been desperate for the toilet during a long hold at Heathrow? 😂
Sure, we have to use the restroom on a regular basis. On short flights, we usually do it before and after the flight. Or on longer flights, we do it before we reach lower altitudes where we may expect a holding or so. I do not remember of a need to go to the restroom in a holding pattern.
Due to several requests, I published this video from the flight back from EDI to DUS. I apologize for the bad stabilization of the PFD/ND screens. This is not the standard of the channel and is usually much better.
There are some interesting events: 1:14:13 an ECAM message with a system fault shows up and is handled by the crew 0:56:01 The First Officer who is a member of the pilot selection team describes very detailed the airline pilot selection and assessment process and gives very valuable information for possible applicants.

I finished flight training on august 1st and passed the first two steps of the selection process afterwards. Its been 3 months since applying and 2 weeks now since the screening and I wonder if you know why the process takes so long although there is a big shortage. Two former flight school colleagues of mine passed the screening in May and just signed their contract, but the typeratimg starts in spring and summer 2025. Is there not enough training personal at EW or what is the reason:) Im quite curious since I want to join EW and I am waiting for the last step without any feedback unless the approval that I passed the screening. I think computer resets are something which everybody has to do once in a while who works with electronic systems which contain some kind of hard and software. The Airbus houses lots of computers for the various systems. Almost everything is somehow controlled and monitored by different computers. Important is that this are different computers and not one large computer. For example, the flight controls are driven by 7! different independent computers. The software engineers also designed the computers in a way that the monitoring system uses another CPU and another computer language than the controlling system.

Yes, broken toilets and galley problems are also parts of our job. We have to document these things in the electronic technical logbook. Subsequently, the entries are transferred to maintenance and they repair it. We also have to check if we can fly with a technical malfunction or / and if we are restricted somehow. For example, a broken seatbelt at a passenger seat would make this seat unusable for passengers.

I really enjoy these videos. Extremely well made and very informative. The only problem I have is hearing what the pilots are saying to each other when there is a lot of radio chatter.

They just contain the original audio from the cockpit which is exactly the same what we hear in our headsets. I cannot change the different volume levels in post production. Please explain the reason why you feel uneasy when flying .80 with a speed below max speed. All in limits. There's no reason to worry about it.

Vielen Dank fürs gute Feedback! Standard ist, dass wir am Anfang der Bahn stehen bleiben, in die Bremsen treten und 50 % N1 setzen. Wenn die 50 % N1 auf beiden Triebwerken erreicht sind, gehen wir aus den Bremsen und beginnen den Startlauf.
Allerdings ist es alternativ auch zulässig, einen "rolling takeoff" zu machen. Das sollten wir in der Crew natürlich absprechen.

The beach house capt. The astros on Gemini and Apollo use to spent the weeks before the launch under low carbohydrate diet. The breakfast just before the launch was an exception. Steak eggs and orange juice plus coffee. The space shuttle venues were different but under the same principle. Nice cruise chatter !!

What a treat! An Edinburgh video with Loganair landing, lovely departure, the FO explaining the process to becoming a Eurowings pilot, a sudden ECAM message and a very smooth landing!
Personally the slightly wobbly camera isn’t an issue, it gives me a better feeling of perspective actually - it’s like having a go pro strapped to your head and feeling it move as you do, if that makes sense.
You mentioned flying as a passenger recently and it made me wonder, as a passenger are you acutely aware of what the aircraft is doing? Such as flap positions, recognising thrust settings by the sound, cabin crew “dings” etc? Or do you switch off the professional side entirely and just enjoy the journey?

When I fly as a passenger, I always recognize what is going on. This is automatically because I know all the calls to the cabin, the dings, the different sounds, the flap positions .... Sometimes I even lookup the arrival or departure chart in my Ipad.
But I also enjoy the journey as a passenger and love to watch out of the windows. Usually I see things which I never saw as a pilot because I am sitting on the left side in the cockpit and the things are on the right side or so.

Really enjoyed the video today. Edinburgh is my home city and I live fairly close to the airport although I can’t see the planes landing as Corstorphine Hill obscures the view. I really like the approach to runway 24. Great views of the city.
Might I say that Edinburgh Airport might be outgrowing itself, with the amount of arriving and departing aircraft which is possibly the reason why your flight was delayed on the ground. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of space for a second runway.
I'm only about four miles from the airport (my view is obscured by the Braid Hills). It's hard to see how the airport expands further (whether it should for environmental reasons is a different thing). I can't see where they'd put a second runway, the first runway is end of life and runway 12/30 is long gone, the terminal is far too crowded, there's a significant bottleneck on the taxiways around A15/A16 and road access to the airport is still only via one road.

Lots of airports were built 50 years ago or so and at that time nobody expected the growth in airplane traffic to the level which we see now. Some cities moved the airports to an aera with more room, like how it was done at Berlin in Germany. Berlin closed 2 airports for the new BER airport. Milan in Italy did it differently: They opened the Malpensa airport but still keep Linate airport open for a reduced number of airplane operations.
My personal opinion is that the few flights which I did to and from Edinburgh were ok in regard to arrival and departure delays caused by airport traffic. It is very similar to other airports.

I prefer the NEO leap engines. Especially the A321 NEO is a wonderful airplane. It climbs really good, even with 232 passengers. And the fuel flow is much lower than on the A321 CEO airplanes.
Hello, I still love your videos. All these videos allowed me to learn the "procedures" that I now apply in MSFS 2020. I have a question, is the departure briefing done before or after the IFR clearance request?
And another question, the dotted arc of a circle that we see at 1:11:22 under heading 120 on the ND, what does it correspond to? I never found the meaning...
For the departure briefing, you need to know the expected departure routing. As soon as you know it, you can do the briefing. Sometimes, we get the IFR clearance not before we are already taxiing to the runway. In this case, we ask ATC what we may have to expect. Once we get the clearance, we double-check if the briefing and setup were done in accordance with the clearance.
Ich möchte mich erstmal für dieses und alle bisherigen Videos bedanken. Die sind echt jedes mal wieder klasse und ich lerne jedes mal neues dazu. Ich nutze die Videos auch gerne um meine Flüge im Simulator zu verbessern. Was mir da allerdings noch fehlen würde, wäre ein Video, in dem ihr das Flugzeug aus dem Cold und Dark Zustand bis zum Takeoff bringt, genauso wie nach der Landung Abends den Flieger wieder aus zu machen. Great video, tho i dont understand one thing. Doesnt the 320 have rudder pedals on the right side? So if the first officer is pf, why do you say your controls at takeoff, is it a eurowings specific procedure?
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! The A320 has rudder pedals and a tiller for the nose wheel steering on both sides. Here, the Captain is always taxiing the airplane, even if the First Officer is pilot flying. All large airlines do operational risk assessments in regard to the procedures. The result is that some airlines allow the First Officers to taxi the airplane, others do not allow it and restrict the taxiing to the Captain.

In Antalya war ich schon lange nicht mehr. Das letzte Mal haben wir ein Video aufgezeichnet, welches auch auf dem Kanal zu sehen ist. Vielleicht werde ich demnächst mal dorthin geplant.
Korfu 16 kommt mit Sicherheit demnächst. Innsbruck fliege ich nicht an, das ich schon etliche andere CAT-C Plätze anfliege. Ich hoffe, dass Island auch mal im Dienstplan steht.

Another great video. I was going to mention the PFD/ ND camera but you already covered that. technology never works great 100% of the time. Could you explain "FLEX" as in the setting for take off. I know it is to do with the power but how is it calculated? Many thanks in advance
Thanks for your financial support of the channel as a member! This is really important! The PFD/ND camera in the next videos will be again way more stable. FLEX takeoffs are reduced thrust takeoffs. We do them to reduce the engine wear. With higher outside air temperatures the engine power is reduced. So we just tell the engine that it should assume that there will be a certain higher outside air temperature. For example: The real outside air temperature is 15 degrees Celsius. To reduce the power for takeoff, we tell the engine that it shall assume that the outside temperature would be 50 degrees Celsius. Then the engine will provide less power because if the temperature would be really 50 degrees Celsius, the engine would deliver less power than at 15 degrees Celsius. We have a computer program which calculates the possible FLEX temperatures. This takes into account the weight of the airplane, the full weather data, including the wind, plus the runway length and obstacles in the departure sector.
Always was curious about the “flex call” on takeoff!

Um 1:04:00 herum programmiert der PF den Custom-Waypoint für D75nm VALSU. Wie genau ist der schlaue Weg, diesen Waypoint schnell zu erstellen?Pilot Waypoints -> Place/BRG/Dist oder gibt es einen schnelleren / einfacheren Weg? (How exactly is the PF entering the custom waypoint given by ATC (D75 from VALSU at FL260)). Vielen Dank für deine Zeit.
Vielen lieben Dank fürs super Feedback! Es gibt unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten, den Punkt einzugeben. Am einfachsten ist es, auf der Fix Info Seite den Wegepunkt Valsu einzugeben und einen 75 NM Kreis (Radius). Neben dem Wort Radius und den eingegebenen 75 NM erscheint dann ein Pfeil. Wenn man auf die Lineselect Taste daneben drūckt, wird in die vorhandene Route ein Wrgepunkt eingefügt, der auf der Route liegt und sich 75 NM vor Valsu befindet Der Name des Punktes ist dann D075VAL. Die Höhenvorgabe für den Punkt kann man dann über den rechten Lineselect Key neben dem neuen Punkt eingeben.

Great video. Out of curiosity, why on take off did the PF fly at 10 degrees pitch, which was above that commanded by the FD? Was it because you were running late and the sooner you reach FL100 you can accelerate past 250kt?
Thanks for your good feedback and your question! The chance to get an early shortcut in the departure routing increases with increased altitude. The faster we gain altitude, the earlier a shortcut is possible.

Why does not the FO follow the FD while climbing?
Thanks for your good feedback! If I remember correctly, he announced that he just wanted to increase the climb rate for a short while because our departure routing was in the "wrong" direction. Being high early usually gives us the chance for a shortcut by ATC. Also ATC asked us to keep the high rate for a moment.

Yet another fantastic video. A couple of questions if I may? Firstly, as a non-native English speaker, your English is flawless, however, as you fly to/over numerous different countries have you ever struggled or found it difficult to understand any regional accents - especially when speaking to other non native English speakers? And secondly you mention the long wait on the ground, and then subsequently tell the controller that you’re late and would appreciate shortcuts, was the lateness due to that wait? Are there any penalties for the company if the flight is late? Many thanks.

Understanding the different regional accents is just a matter of experience. When flying the first time to a certain country, it is sometimes difficult to understand everything. After several flights it is much easier. In regard to air traffic control, it is even easier because everybody is using the same words. So we know already before what we may have to expect next.
Most of the flights which I do are on time or earlier. Here the departure delay was about 30 minutes. The arrival delay was less. This happens once in a while. Several things added up: The ground ops (loading and boarding) took a little longer and the startup and pushback was delayed due to ATC and apron restrictions. Then we were number 4 for departure and had to wait for some landings. The most delays which I saw during the last time were ATC slots. This means we cannot fly at the planned time and have to stay on the ground for some time because ATC is unable to handle us at this time on the planned routing. Various reasons may cause this: Not enough ATC controllers at work, weather on the routing or at the destination, technical restrictions in the ATC system ..... The European law regulates delays: If the delay is caused by the airline and more than 3 hours at the destination, the passengers are entitled to a compensation. If it is longer than 2 hours, they have to get something to drink. During the last years, I never experienced a 2 or 3 hour delay as a pilot. We always try to fly as punctual as possible. Some passengers have connecting flights or continue with a train. So it is essential that we are on time or just a few minutes late. Our flight plans contain some buffers to cope with possible delays. They enable us to be on time or earlier even with a few minutes departure delay.

Yes, the first officer is very friendly! And he is a good pilot! I do not know the reason for the SEC fault. Sometimes, we request and get a feedback from maintenance. Here, we did not ask for it because it was just a successful computer reset.

Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und das gute Feedback! Normalerweise folgen wir dem Flight Director. Es sei denn, es gibt einen Grund dafür, es nicht zu tun. Im Abflug folgt der Kollege zunächat dem Flight Director. Bei 19:10 sagt er, dass er bewußt eine höhere Pitch einnimmt als vom Flight Director angezeigt. Wir folgten der Departure Route. Allerdings ging die noch in Richtung Westen. Also in die eigentlich "falsche" Richtung. Je schneller man Höhe erreicht, desto eher gibt es Abkürzungen in die "richtige" Richtung. Später kam dann auch noch mal die Aufforderung von ATC dazu, eine hohe Rate noch für einem Moment zu fliegen. Man hätte auch an der FCU eine niedrigere Geschwindigkeit eindrehen oder eine bestimmte Rate vorwählen können. Der Kollege wollte jedoch eine Pitch von etwa 10 Grad fliegen. Das kann man dem Flight Director nicht vorgeben.

Thanks for the good feedback! I do not know why a straight push was required. Maybe because we had to make room for other traffic or it is just the standard at this parking position at the airport for unknown reasons. Sometimes, airports have special local procedures which we do not know about. And which we do not need to know because ATC is telling us about it and/or the ground crew knows them.

Interesting video - I was delayed in Las Palmas by 2 hours last week, as there was some burning smell coming from the toilets. So we had to go back to the remote stand.
In a months time, I'm flying on an ATR 72-600 to Guernsey island from Gatwick. It's my first time flying on a turboprop plane.

I cannot compare the ATR to an AIRBUS. My knowledge of the ATR is very limited. I flew several times as a passenger with an ATR and it was always ok. Depending on the seat location it may be a little noisy. The Q version of the ATR is providing an anti noise system in the cabin. It works similar to the ANR headsets, just through the loudspeakers. Ich war länger nicht mehr in Leipzig. Aber sobald ich dort mal wieder hinfliege, werde ich versuchen, ein Video aufzunehmen. Das kann aber noch etwas dauern, da wir sehr viele Destinationen anfliegen und der Dienstplan immer eine große Überraschung ist.
Are all your flights turns or are there any that involve an overnight stopover?
Most of the flights are coming back to the homebase at the end of the flight-duty. Some flights require overnights at other airports. We also have to fly sometimes from other bases, stay in the hotel at the base and do flights which depart and arrive at the base before travelling back to the homebase.
I enjoyed the flight. Just a shame that it was overcast over the Dutch coast. I had hoped to see a bit of the Netherlands. I noticed however that you passed the SPL VOR (at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport) by the north. That was further north than that I expected. And at the end the FMS tuned in to the MAS (Maastricht) VOR close to the town of Schinveld, just abot 8 km of my hometown Hulsberg!

14:14 I fly regularly in and out of EGPH and the turn around times are terrible due to many factors that the airport don’t seem able to improve.
There are always many factors who are controlling the turnaround times. At this flight, all factors were against us.
Would be nice to see the lower and upper ECAM DUs too, and make them bigger, it's too small to see details.
I also would like to add the ECAM screens to the videos. They are already recorded by the PFD/ND camera. Due to ugly reflections, the pictures of the ECAM are not useable.
Due to the very limited possible camera locations, I did not find a good solution for this until now. I will continue to search for a feasible solution. But it may take a while.

Bei einem plötzlichen Druckabfall in der Kabine fallen die Masken herunter und es ertönt zeitgleich eine automatische Ansage, die die Passagiere darauf hinweist, dass es einen Druckabfall gab und dass sie die Masken bitte benutzen sollen. Das ist unabhängig von dem was von den Piloten oder den Flugbegleitern gesagt wird.

Why is the TLA6C annotated as ‘PROP ONLY’ on the LIDO chart?
Good question! I thought also about this several times. But this is the only departure which provides a routing in the required direction for our flight. So it looks like that they use it also for jets.
@ I think I found the answer. In the RAD it states that this departure can be used by jet aircraft provided they route via Y96, otherwise it’s restricted to Props. Thanks for another fantastic video!!

It is not shown on the screen. The screen shows "TA only" during the initial takeoff because the plane cannot do a resolution advisory at very low altitude because a resolution advisory may require a descent or a level off.

Hallo, ich bin seit gewisser Zeit interessiert Pilot zu wersen. Momentan in der Ausbildung zum Elektroniker. Ich strebe an den Meisterbrief zu machen nach der Ausbildung. Danach möchte ich möglicherweise meinen Traum jagen und versuchen Pilot zu werden. Leider hab ich kein Abitur sondern nur ein sehr sehr gutes Realschulzeugnis. Nun stelle ich mir die Frage ob der Meisterbrief nicht ausreicht bei z.B Lufthansa, Eurowings da dieser eigendlich gleich zu setzen ist mit der Hochschulreife?
Vielen Dank für das sehr persönliche Feedback! Ich finde, es ist eine gute Idee, erst einmal den Meisterbrief zu machen und dann möglicherweise eine Ausbildung zum Piloten zu starten. Die aktuelle Copiloten-Auschreibung bei Eurowings erfordert: "Allgemeine Hochschulreife oder Fachhochschulreife". Genaue Details kenne ich auch nicht. Mein persönliches Verständnis davon ist jedoch: Wenn Du mit Deinem jetzigen Abschluß oder dann später mit dem Meisterbrief in Kombination mit Deinem jetzigen Abschluß auch an einer Fachhochschule studieren könntest, wären die Voraussetzungen erfüllt.
Am besten fragst Du mal bei den Airlines nach der Anerkennung Deines Abschlusses.

Außerdem hab ich den vorteil das ich einige Kosten weil es eine Zweitausbildung wäre bei der Piloten Ausbildung erstattet werden. Jetzt schau ich mal das ich noch bisschen Geld verdiene damit ich auch noch den Standfuß richte mit dem Meisterbrief hoffentlich und dann schau ich mal. Danke für die Rückmeldung nochmal. Danke für das Update! Bei der Pilotenausbildung hast Du zwei Möglichkeiten:
Entweder machst Du es bei einer Schule, die mit einer Airline zusammenarbeitet oder zur Airline gehört. Diese Airline gibt Dir dann nach dem Abschluß auch meist einen Job, weil Du schon vor Beginn der Ausbildung das Auswahlverfahren durchlaufen hast. Meiner Meinung nach ist das die beste Möglichkeit, weil der Job im Cockpit am Ende garantiert ist, soloange Du alle Checks bestehst und die Airline Piloten sucht.
Die andere Option ist eine Schule, die nicht direkt zu einer Airline gehört. Das ist eine gute Option, wenn die vorher genannte Option nicht geklappt hat oder die Airline, zu der Du möchtest, diese Option nicht anbietet. Diese Ausbildung lässt sich in Teilen als Fernkurs, also online, darstellen. Das kann man ganz gut auch neben einer normalen Tätigkeit machen. Der Ausbildungsteil direkt in der Schule verringert sich durch den Fernkurs massiv. Ich habe das auch so gemacht und konnte in meinem ursprünglichen Beruf während der ATPL-Ausbildung die ganze Zeit weiter arbeiten. Billiger war es am Ende auch noch und ich habe weiter Geld verdient.
Und natürlich empfehle ich jedem luftfahrtinteressierten Menschen, erstmal einen Privatpilotenschein zu machen. Das geht eventuell auch in einem Verein.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos könntest du mir vielleicht deine Schule verlinken die du meinst schau mir das mal an. Wie kann man ggf Kosten senken und wenn ich fragen dürfte wie viel du damals gezahlt hast.
So the FO was more than a FO right? Recruitment manager or a higher manager or something? He gave a feeling as if he's at a higher position than a A320 captain + Instructor in the company EW. Some of his jokes or remarks gave it away for me, it could be false though.
As a Copilot myself I cannot see what you mean. Both pilots are equals in the cockpit (except in certain situations) and a bit of fun and jokes are totally normal. Also the Copilot is always encouraged to make decisions too.
There is no huge authority difference in modern airlines anymore.
I think that the impression @SIMTRIBE got is not right. The FO is a great pilot and a nice colleague. I have flown with him often and it was always a pleasure. I love to see a good amount of qualified inputs from the first officers. This is really important for a good CRM. Especially if the first officer is pilot flying, he shall have a good picture about what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. I am finally legally responsible, but it is his flight as pilot flying.
Sure, everybody has a slightly different communication style. You can see this in my different videos.
This first officer is also a simulator instructor and a member of the selection pilot team. I also was with him in the simulator and can tell you that he is a wonderful instructor who knows how to teach.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I must apologize, I guess my message lead to something different. This video, your comms, collaboration in the cockpit, sharing of decisions, everything was perfect. And at the end who am I to judge... What I just felt was, that some of the jokes and relaxed manners came across as a higher-up kind of behaviour. Didn't mean it as a bad thing, it didn't affect anything in the cockpit, you both were perfect. It was just an observation of managerial manners sometimes.

So the F/O’s cannot be trusted to taxi the aeroplane or touch the thrust levers?
Every large airline does operational risk assessments in regard to the operating procedures. This includes the question who is allowed to taxi the airplane on the ground. Some airlines allow the first officers to taxi the airplane other airlines restrict the taxiing to the captain. This is the case of our operations. Here, the first officer is responsible for the thrust levers after liftoff when he or she is pilot flying. Before, the captain controls the thrust levers and is taxiing the airplane. After landing, the captain takes over the controls from the first officer before the plane is exiting the runway.
Why does the PF not get to control the thrust levers on takeoff. Could this not cause a delay if the PF wants to abort the takeoff but the captain has control of the thust?
A takeoff abort is always performed by the captain, even if the first officer is pilot flying. My understanding is that this is the same at every airline. So there is no delay in case of an abort.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos If the PF spots a reason for aborting before the captain does he have to shout abort then?
The decision to abort or to continue a takeoff is always done by the captain. Even if he or she is the designated pilot monitoring for the flight. The general rule is that the first officer has to state the technical problem, if he or she sees that something is wrong. The captain then has to decide to continue or to abort the takeoff. And the captain has to execute the abort, if he decides for an abort. The only situation at which the first officer could decide on its own to abort the takeoff and even executes the abort would be during an incapacitation of the captain. We train this scenario in the simulator.

Sure, we have to use the restroom on a regular basis. On short flights, we usually do it before and after the flight. Or on longer flights, we do it before we reach lower altitudes where we may expect a holding or so. I do not remember of a need to go to the restroom in a holding pattern.
