Great tips for DIY and for those not too familiar with it. Unfortunately that tool won't work for large rooms as nothing to rest against.
I used it in my living room and along as you have the wood slightly longer it holds every time.
@@primalrenovations7427 From the video and logically speaking, the only way to rest the T-bar is on the wall. If you've got a room 6*6m or so, this wouldn't really work as it would need a wall to rest on. Unless I'm missing something...
I noticed you put a full sheet up at first and at the edge where it met the smaller piece you wasn’t catching a joist, you should always cut plasterboard to a joist so the joints don’t crack, just a tip for you mate

I'm doing up a welsh cottage and to save money I'm doing as much as I can on my own.
I'm a 54yr old welder with the onset of arthritis in my back and could do with hip replacements (who'd be a welder aye..) sometimes the easiest solutions are the best as well as being the least obvious.
Thanks for this and the advice, once I'm done with the wood I can always make a walking frame out of it 😅

Although I'm still fairly mobile I'm not too bad yet, mind you this house of mine is likely to change that lol. An unexpected job due to removing old polystyrene tiles revealed ceiling cracks, well it is 140yrs old...
Thanks again for the tips and I've liked and subscribed 😀 2 of my ceilings curve down towards the window, have you ever had to bend plasterboard in this way? I see you can get 6mm thick GTEC Contour boarding from Hews Gray and wondered if this might do?
Yes depending on how big the curve is you can score the back of the boards a few times and when it cracks it will curve just don't cut all the way through 👍

It'll be a while till I get to that stage but I'll let you know how it goes. Bit difficult to describe the steepness of the curve but I think it's doable.

First thing is to find the joist then mark it with the chalk line then you can cut your board to the right length👍

Is there any problem if you screw the plasterboard directly on the ceiling?
Just need to get a good fixing if you miss the joists it could potentially crack or even fall down

Never use an impact driver for that. Isn’t enough control and you don’t want to go past the paper with the screw.
Yes you don't want to go through the paper layer but if you notice I'm not pulling the trigger all the way so I can control the speed it goes in.
Literally every plasterer in the country uses an impact driver bud...

Why did you cover over the existing plaster board with the new sheet, rather than removing the old one first?
It saves lots of mess and makes no difference if you take it down or not.
I also find it keeps the strength in the ceiling.
You can take the old plasterboard down if you like.👍
You need a self feeder for the screws.. and next time try hit the joist mate.

Perhaps if your a plasterer and you do it all day every day then yes you probably can but fir someone who isn't use to working like that then this would help.
I'm not saying it's the best way it's just the way I like to do it and saves your back from all the heavy lifting.
I don't know if it's experience or not but there are so many things could be better in this video. No hate just an observation.

@@primalrenovations7427 wasn't I did t like it mate, and fair play for having a go. Tbh with 6x3 boards it's easy enough to hold and screw anyway, without aid. Another thing is a screw gun, makes job so much easier. Hop up is what most would use now, not ladders. I personally don't start up against the side wall either as often rooms are not square, and if it ends up running out down the line it's a PITA to fill the small gap.
Get someone to help with video mate just to take better views. Cheers

Well the point is that it just helps hold them in place I'm not saying that there really heavy but it helps leaning over and struggle to hold them up and screw them in.
Just helps to save your back a bit.
