Free charging, no sales tax on evs, and exempt from road, bridge, and ferry tolls. It's a good thing that Norway has massive income from oil and gas exports so that it can afford to be so environmentally friendly ( Yes, that is meant as sarcasm). Also, Norway is proof that hydropower is so much better than windmills or solar panels.
Not every country has access to hydropower tho, so in those instances solar and wind power are still great options. Take the Netherlands for example, no hydropower there, but plenty of wind from the North sea and the highest density of solarpower in the European union
@paliewallie I would think that the potential for renewable electricity generation from the North Sea is more from the kinetic energy of the water than the wind. Offshore hydro, because the energy of moving water is far greater and more dependable than moving air.
I was not a Tesla fan boy. I think Musk is brilliant but “has his moments” of oddity. Either way, I got a Model Y long range recently and it is BY FAR the best vehicle I’ve ever own or driven. The fit and finish were perfect. I went over every inch when I got it and could not find one flaw. I started with first using a 110 plug in my garage and plugging it in like a lamp. Then I had my master electrician friend put in a 240v 50 amp plug in my garage. Same plug my clothes dryer uses. He charged me $200. Now it charges 28 miles every hour and I never have to use a charging station. They are there if I need them (road trip) but my ~300 mile range is more than enough. I actually only charge up to 60% intentionally to keep the battery super happy but if I have a longer trip coming up that day, I go into the app and bump up the % to 80% (or more depending on the trip). It “tops” off the battery right as I am about to head out. I look forward to driving it every time and literally look for excuses to drive somewhere lol.
Norway is an EV outlier because: 1. 96% of its electricity comes from extremely cheap hydro... not available to other countries 2. The Norwegian government is giving massive priority and (temporary) subsidisation and tax breaks to EV adoption to take advantage of access to this abundant, cheap natural resource 3. Norway is a wealthy country

EVs are picking up fast in Singapore as well. There were more EVs sold than Petrol in February 2024 with EVs taking up 31.4%, Petrol at 21.3% and Petrol-Electric at 47%, the remainder goes to Diesel & Petrol-Electric (Plug in). The cost to charge is significantly cheaper than pumping gas because of the heavy government tax on petroleum, and the government is installing new chargers at a fast pace as well.

I don't really understand why charging stations are such an important factor to adoption of electric vehicles. Don't electric car owners charge them at home 99% of the time?
It's because famous youtubers are the ones reviewing them, and they are on the road all the time, setting unrealistic expectations for the market. They constantly rant about charging speeds and superchargers, while the huge majority of EV owners wake up to a full charge, that's no superchargers and 0 time at the pump. You can't beat that.

No. We already have massive tax breaks, including not paying road tax in many states. Electric grid is different in the US as well. The government has already forced taxpayers to pay for new cars for millions of people.
Norway makes money mainly from selling oil and gas. It's EV adaptation doesn't save much on CO2 emission. And they are rich from selling oil and gas so they can afford expensive EVs
You seem to have missed the part where they said only 24% of Norway's GDP is from oil and gas. This means 76% of this funding comes from other sources.
You're one of those who have eaten the FUD about EVs being more expensive than ICEs. That was true once, but not anymore. They reached parity (TCO) a couple of years ago. Now we are working on sticker prices, the indicator that most people need to make judgments because they don't know how to do simple math. The other tripping up point is comparing a $20k piece of crap econo car with a fully loaded, entry level Tesla. Of course econo is cheaper, but that Tesla has more to offer (safety, performance, fun versatility) than comparable ICE premium models by a mile while still maintaining a price edge.
I think it’s a great development for the EV market- the warm reception in Norway 🇳🇴 that is. But I sincerely hope Tesla does not make the mistake of resting on its hoarse even as the competition tightens.

Still massively harmful for the fish but of course that is not talked about
Not every country has access to hydropower tho, so in those instances solar and wind power are still great options.
@@dennisenright9347The problem is how difficult offshore is to deploy and maintain.

The cost to charge is significantly cheaper than pumping gas because of the heavy government tax on petroleum, and the government is installing new chargers at a fast pace as well.
Been driving my Model 3 for the last year and hands down the best car ive owned. Even in the winter time in New Jersey it gets cold but my battery was fine.
I don't really understand why charging stations are such an important factor to adoption of electric vehicles. Don't electric car owners charge them at home 99% of the time?
~90% of the time
But if you want to go anywhere else, you need fast chargers. Nobody would buy an EV if they couldn't drive where they want with it.
It's because famous youtubers are the ones reviewing them, and they are on the road all the time, setting unrealistic expectations for the market. As a norwegian I'm loving this🥰
Norway makes money mainly from selling oil and gas. It's EV adaptation doesn't save much on CO2 emission. And they are rich from selling oil and gas so they can afford expensive EVs
Norway has also used a third of its proved crude reserves since 1998. That rate is mirrored globally by and large.
You seem to have missed the part where they said only 24% of Norway's GDP is from oil and gas. This means 76% of this funding comes from other sources.
It’s not Norway’s fault that the rest of their world loves buying their biggest product.
