  • Tesla’s Supercharging network is the largest fast charging network in North America, and it’s often cited as the EV maker’s biggest competitive advantage. That network is valuable too, with analysts estimating that Tesla could own $7.4 billion of the public charging market by 2030. But in a surprise move, Elon Musk let go of Tesla’s entire Supercharging team, laying off about 500 people, including top executives. Now its future is in question. CNBC explores what’s next for Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Still with Tesla stock, investors can never be sure what will happen next, bearish periods ultimately establish a new set of stocks to buy and watch while setting the stage for a robust new uptrend. I have been reading articles of people that grossed profits up to $250k during this crash, what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist?

Tesla will keept adding superchargesr to their network, and the most used location will have added stations. Places with less usage will be closed and the site will be for sale to other charging companies. The other will be up very fast since permits and electrical conections are present. It is just a way to make the network more efficient.

One of the issues I don’t hear in this video, is that Tesla’s V3 chargers don’t go above 500V but NEVI funding used to state that a CCS charger must be able to charge “any CCS compliant vehicle” this is obviously indicated that you needed high voltage capability because a car without a voltage booster would be CCS compliant. But now the current language states that NEVI, “allows … other non-proprietary connectors so long as each DCFC charging port is capable of charging a CCS-compliant vehicle”
The change from “any CCS vehicle” to “a CCS vehicle” is small and feels pedantic but in the world of law it opened up tesla to not truly provide a quality public charging experience for every car.

You can have it repaired/replaced under warranty, and when that warranty is up, you might be able to find a third party, that can work on it. But eventually that phone, that car, will have depreciated in value so much that it doesn’t make any sense to fix it anymore. It’s rare that a parents phone is handed down to their child, as they are used to trading them in. And cars are becoming the same. Instead of handing them down, they are trading them in.

Yes, the large selling point for the Tesla is the charging infrastructure. But I’m surprised that the main headlines from a supercharger team being laid off is this equals the network will lose its competitive advantage. I think its way to early to tell if that will happen especially when there’s numerous reasons for doing this and many more avenues they could explore.
First IMO, they can simply slow down. Now that all their competitors have pretty much given up trying to replicate what they have. Opening up the supercharging network to car makers like Ford etc…was a real big win, instead of building quickly perhaps they can even focus efforts on more hubs at current locations and faster charging speeds.
The innovation doesn’t stop, it simply shifts. They have the blueprint for making these Tesla charging stations and I suspect they’ll even get some of these companies now wanting to use the Tesla superchargers to help build on their infrastructure too. But, that’s my opinion, we’ll see.

As for no concrete plans, you should probably defer making that judgement until after 8/8...when they plan to announce the new car. As for losing market share, well that's inevitable as BEVs increasingly replace IC vehicles....and not a bad thing. As for begging for a $55B pay package, I'd hardly describe it in this way. The guy has worked tirelessly for 6 years without getting a salary. When the $55B deal was struck, virtually nobody thought he would earn it....but he did....and made a whole lot of others rich in the process. With any luck he'll get the $55B reinstated, will continue to make Tesla the world leader in more and more sub-businesses, and shareholders will be rewarded handsomely.

Tesla's market share dropping is inevitable, of course, but is just another indication of its overvaluation. Also, I addressed the 8/8 announcement saying that it's unlikely that anything will ship anytime soon. I have a model 3 with FSD and can attest that it is good... but nowhere near capable of being a robotaxi. For a number of complex reasons, the Convolutional Neural Nets Tesla uses for CV cannot do long term planning like it would need to if Tesla wanted to solve that last 1-2% of driving scenarios that can't be trained. This is not to mention the myriad of other issues related to running a taxi service simultaneously everywhere in the US and the permitting, etc required. Also not to mention that it will probably take them years from the announcement to begin manufacturing anything, as is usual with Tesla announcements. And lastly, Elon absolutely does not deserve 55 billion dollars. I don't care if he met the goal he set for himself by inflating the stock price with false promises, he does not work 50 times harder than every employee he fired combined. In the spring of 2001 Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan was doing little qtr. point rate cuts when we had a recession on our hands. I denounced him in mails to Congress and a whisper campaign began there against him. SO, he started cutting a LOT, home sales, and prices, soared, including the value of my house. In 2004 I had enough equity to do a reverse mortgage, getting rid of my mortgage, four years after I bought the house. Since then, I've paid around $250 per month property tax and insurance. Perhaps we have come to the point where other companies, like BP/Shell, will be able to pick up the slack. I don't see EV numbers doing anything except growing. It's not fair to expect Tesla to supply and maintain charging for the entire EV world worldwide. I have always said that Tesla is not a car company, but an energy company. This movement by Tesla does make me wonder if Tesla is now changing direction from energy to autonomy/AI/bots/compute. I think no matter where Tesla does go, it will be ground breaking and earth shattering. They just have to wait for the rest of us to get there. They got to EVs long before most of us were ready; and now that a lot of us are getting there, they are headed onward into the future again.

How come VW, Ford, BMW etc can’t do the same? Tesla is an amazing company in comparison to those car manufacturers who have been around for 70+ years. Your comment is immature and you are hoping for failure in what is essentially an American success story. A benchmark car from an upstart car manufacturer. Brilliant.

This all but guarantees that EVs are not adopted widely in the US since competitors put their chargers in the wrong locations (i.e. not on interstates/hwys) and that 50% of those chargers don't work. I was waiting for Tesla network to be opened, but if they only have 5-10 chargers per rest-stop on I-95 those will be too full to make charging quick and efficient. I will stick with ICE because it still the fastest way to fuel my vehicle.

      @propergander8509 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

Right. Because total engine failures on modern internal combustion engine vehicles are much cheaper to fix and completely unheard of, right?
Looking at you, Volkswagen group TFSI petrol engines that give up after 50k miles.
Having a mercedes v8 63 AMG engine irrepairably break on you will run you a cool 60.000 bucks if you're unwilling to settle for a used engine that will still be bloody expensive.
And if you want to talk about total engine failures being rare and engines being fixable for much cheaper in most instances...
Well... It's the same with EVs if there's ever an issue with the battery.
Often times it's a just a handful of bad/fried/prematurely aged battery cells that brick an entire battery pack. Which is fixable.
With the right tools and the know-how. There just aren't many independent places specializing in EV battery repairs yet. Give it time, the industry is young.
Complete battery failures are at least if not more rare than total engine failures nowadays.
And a 30k repair bill for a new battery is basically just a product of greed and laziness on the part of the manufacturers and ignorance of alternative routes on the part of the consumer...
