    Thank you for making this. I've had the B1 now for well over 10 years and it's been a great workhorse of a microphone. I've been debating getting the AT2020 but since they're so similar I don't think I need it anymore. Your review really helped me decide so thanks again, I appreciate you!

    I've had a B1 for many years and have gotten it to do some amazing things on both acoustic guitar and vocals. It's been abused for at least 20 years and 8 full cd's and is still working fine. I believe the B1 may be a bit harder to dial in but well worth it when you do. My recorded vocals on cd all sound full and clear. The 2020 sounds great too (very similar) although I have no working history with it..

    The AT2020 seems to handle the lower end better....but I like that the B-1 comes with the case and shock mount. My ears can definitely hear the difference and prefer the AT2020...so thanks, you made the choice really easy for me. Much appreciated, and amazing vocals!

    This is an apples and oranges comparison. The Audio-Technica large diaphragm version is the AT2035, and it costs more than the Behringer for good reason. Great comparison and nice video, though. More detail and nuance with the Audio Technica… I can literally hear the guitar strings being struck and the intricacies of your singing voice - it’s build quality and top notch condenser module shine through. The Behringer looks quite nice - I’m a sucker for silver finishes …I do think it’s a little too bright and that its larger diaphragm fails to capture the detail that the Audio Technica effortlessly captures. I’ve seen a stainless steel version of the Audio Technica - again, the build/finish is way better than the Behringer but it does cost a bit more than the standard black edition. Finally, you’re a great vocalist/guitarist - regardless of what mic you use.

    I should listen to this with some decent speakers instead of whatever my laptop has, but I agree they're very close. I also might be a bit biased as I have an Audio Technica 2100x which I love, but there is a tiny bit of harshness when the Behringer is driven hard that the AT2020 does not have. I also though the Audio Technica had just a little bit more body to the sound, too.

    • @TimMoxeyMusic
      @TimMoxeyMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. Listening on some headphones or good speakers it’s definitely that way to go.

    • @static-san
      @static-san 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimMoxeyMusic Okay I had a listen on some good speakers and I heard the same differences. But it would've been impossible to tell them apart in the mix if I weren't listening for a difference.
      I liked your comment about how it was easier to pull a good sound out of the 2020 - I'd not heard that comparison before with other people doing mic reviews. Nice point of difference!
      Also curious how the 2020 is different to the 2100x - but I know that's a difficult comparison because the 2100x is a dynamic mic, unlike the 2020. The 2100x is also a USB mic which people will probably tend to use, though it has an XLR socket, too.

    Thanks for the informative video. I have the AT2020 and the B1 and am currently about to decide which one I should buy to make a stereo pair as overhead drum mics. I have tried both as mono overheads and since I've had the B1 way longer, I have used it as a room mic too. I find the AT2020 too harsh as a mono overhead and the B1 to be a lot smoother. Maybe it's the room or it's just me. I'm leaning more towards the B1 to complete the stereo pair.

    Behringer def smoother and lower by far. The at matched ur voice a bit better . But imo the c1 should honestly get the dub just no competition at that price . Period. The at is nice . And very bright and crisp. Personal preference is the warmer and smoother berhringer … i daily a beat up c1 and people often ask what I’m using . I’ve had a few comps to a sm7b and blue yeti frequently…

    • @z3alious
      @z3alious ปีที่แล้ว

      btw thanks for the video ! I find it odd a lot say the at smoother .. the Behringer def smoother and warmer . But everyone’s ears are different. Again for your voice the at sounded better .. but again I didn’t expect much from my c1 and it’s mind blowing for the price . Since the b release u can find the c’a for 25-30 usd .. like that’s nuts . Build quality wise too like u could knock some one out with the Behringer. Call me biased but I tried a few other mics out to replace it and they just never come close .
      Again at the c price point I recommend everyone grab one as a back up or instrument mic whatever that price is actually blowing my mind .

      I think you'll make magic on that setup, Mate! Focsrite preamps are decent and the B1, is my current mic, and I'm happy!
      I'm using a cheap sound card, being sold by a South African audio company and it's doing great! I can only imagine how much crisper it would be if i used a more popular (expensive) brand.

    Which 1 better for recording electric guitar amp and backing track from another monitor speaker at the same time in the studio environment? Purpose just to capture practice session (expect better than audio quality from smartphone recording). Or dynamic like SM57 will be better?
    Not looking for recording quality such as direct to audio interfaces or multitrack recording.

    • @TimMoxeyMusic
      @TimMoxeyMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. From your question it sounds like you want a mic that will pick up more detail in the room? I would suggest that the AT2020 is going to sound more neutral and be more sensitive, so I would go with that. The sm57 is great but it won't be as sensitive, so if you aren't close micing it probably won't sound as good as a condenser from a distance.
      Just to throw a suggestion out there that you may not have thought of... Have you considered playing the backing track through a DAW and close micing the amp? You could use speakers or headphones to monitor and you'll get better detail. I hope this helps.

    • @ChrisChris-jg7fj
      @ChrisChris-jg7fj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice.
      I do think the same too about condenser vs dynamic. Do u think omnidirectional will be better than cardioid?
      For ur suggestion, I already did that (my setup, guitar amp using line out to audio interface - pc with DAW and backing track - monitor speaker) and the result is like u said, more detail (vs smartphone direct recording)
      In that setup I'm not using mic.
      So I want to start using mic, hopefully I can get 1 mic that good for that 2 scenario (direct miking to guitar amp and recording the room sound.

      @@jaselizaofficial Alright, so this fix has 2 parts. First things first, plug your cable into Slot 5. Since the B-1 needs phantom power, you need to use one of the slots between 3 and 8, BUT the phantom power from other lines seem to be what causes the high pitched low squeal. Maybe its poor insulation between the slots, who knows. On the top right, hit the Tool button. Then select System. Click down the list until you find Phantom. You will see 3/4 ch and 7/9 ch. Turn those both off. This will stop phantom power to those 4 channels. If you are using your headphones and have Channel 5 set to record, I bet you will already hear the squeal reduce. Ok on to step 2

    There is a noticable difference but currently on sweetwater that difference costs $40. It's not worth it in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the bigger highs with the B-1 but I suppose it can be EQ'd out. I'd prefer the 2020, but I don't really see anything majorly wrong with the B-1 or if you can get one without the noise issue I'm hearing about maybe even the C-1. All three of these mics would be a huge step up from what I'm using currently.

      Yeah, I don't think the sound difference between these mics is all that big. You could do very well with either of them.

    Can you please do a comparison between a2020 and MXL V67G? Thanks!
