    I’m 35 and beat testicular cancer over three years ago. I’m in great health and I am about to start the process to see if I can get a waiver to join the Air National Guard. I feel like I have a second chance in life to do the one thing that I have always wanted to do, serve. I am super excited that there is a chance. Thanks guys!

      I’m right there with you except for the cancer. I’m also 35, and I’m so happy they relaxed their qualifications. When I was growing up they only accepted the best people, but now I can finally get in and serve my country. Let me know your story. I’d love to hear you get in. You’ll have to like this comment because I don’t see replies in my feed.

      @@TechnicallyaddictedI just seen this response. I’ve been trying to get finances in order so I can step away from my job long enough for training if they accept my waiver. Also, it’s a big decision for my wife and we have a child. She’s been up and down about agreeing but things are looking better financially so I am about to visit my doctor to run some tests to get a letter of good health to help with my waiver. We will see… did you enlist?

      Not exactly true. I am not a recruiter or MEPS Chief Medical Officer but I’ll say this anyway speaking from what I learned. I’m sure there are still some medical and moral disqualifiers the Air Force will draw a hard line on and not waive such as current or history of depression and antidepressant use. I talked to a coworker 3 years ago who was denied from all five military branches, Air Force included, because of his depression history and the medicine he took for it.
      They say that the Army has a waiver for everything which is also far from the truth. Another coworker I spoke to two years ago applied for the Army and was even motivated and shed extra pounds to meet the height and weight standards. A waiver was requested for his current depression and medication to treat it. It got kicked back with a Denied status two weeks later. The applicant and recruiter was disappointed about it. Turns out the Army will not waive depression and antidepressant use either.

    What is the likelihood that I will be excepted to join the Air Force reserve when I am technically 20 pounds “overweight” ?
    since I am 26 and I have enjoyed playing sports, my whole life and I’ve been competitively powerlifting the last two years. I am heavier built, but can still run 3 miles out of eight minute pace on any given day, and my conditioning is the best it’s ever been.
    Is there a waiver that I could try to take advantage of?

      Daniel, Air Force applicants are strongly encouraged to meet height and weight requirements before contacting a recruiter, however you may still contact an Air Force Recruiter for information. Often you will not start the process until meeting weight requirements.
      Height and weight chart; (you will need to select the "Height and Weight" tab to see the actual chart): www.airforce.com/how-to-join/prepare-for-success/meet-requirements

    I went to the doctor with my mother in 2022 before I left for college she told my physician to put in an order for zoloft because she was worried about me adjusting to college life but i never took the meds and never was re-prescribed the meds and i’m not a anxious or depressed person. I do take phetermine and topamax because i am on a weight loss journey to help me lose weight in enough time for me to enlist by the beginning 2025. Will this need waivers? I am eager to join and don’t want something like this to be the reason I cannot. I’ve been working on joining for about a year now and I’d like to know before i get my hopes up.

      @sheadawn You must be removed off of the medication by a doctor, and it is written in your medical records. You must be off of the medication for 3 years from the date in your medical records before you can contact an Air Force recruiter. Need all med docs for depression/anxiety. The doctor at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) makes that determination. Your local recruiter can have your medical records for this condition prescreened by the doctor at MEPS for a preliminary ruling in your situation. It is routine during the screening process that all applicants are asked in-depth questions about their medical history. Just like other medical matters such as broken bones or asthma, we would request medical paperwork for the Chief Medical Officer to review for a determination.

    So about three years ago I discovered a sebaceous cyst on my back, about the size of a quarter next to my spine. It never hurt, but people would comment on it when I was at the pool swimming. So a couple months ago I decided to have it removed. Purely from a cosmetic perspective. Now I have a scar an inch and a half long in its place. It’s completely healed over and have no issues. Would having this scar disqualify me? I have the paperwork from the surgeon saying that is a cyst and my receipt from the hospital. The thing that makes this confusing is that I had the procedure done abroad in Kuwait. I currently work here and am moving back to the USA in a couple months and plan on enlisting.

If the SG approves a medical waiver you will be allowed to join, but you may be limited on some careers. Your local recruiter can have your medical records for this condition prescreened by the doctor at MEPS for a preliminary ruling in your situation. During the screening process, all applicants are asked in-depth questions about their medical history. Just like other medical matters such as broken bones or asthma, we would request medical paperwork for the CMO to review for a determination.

    Ive been in 15 yrs, have mild knees issues but no surgery, have 20% knee Va rate, but i have no profile, and can have no limitations, everything is all green for me, medical wise, iam MRC2 ,would i have any issues joining Airforce?

    • @USAirForceRecruiting
      @USAirForceRecruiting  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rashawntownsend4069 Any person receiving VA disability compensation normally cannot join the Air Force. However, if you want to relinquish/suspend your VA disability compensation please contact the VA directly for that process. There is no guarantee once you have relinquished/suspended your VA compensation you can join or reapply for those same medical issues that you were being compensated for. You may contact a recruiter to discuss options.
      As for your knees, Unfortunately, this could potentially be medically disqualifying. However, the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) doctor (not the recruiter) makes that determination if you are medically qualified to join and any career limitations. You will need to gather your medical/pharmacy records for this condition and provide them to your recruiter. Then your local recruiter can have your medical records for this condition prescreened by the doctor at MEPS for a preliminary ruling in your particular situation. Please contact a recruiter for more details.

      That is good to hear. It can go either way, but it is good that they are reviewing it rather than just saying no. It may also go to the Surgeon General for review. If it does not automatically go there, you can request it. Usually, it is automatically sent. The SG does have 60 days to review, so it does take time.
