Aircraft maintenance is a tough life. Don't let the recruiting videos and such be your only source of information when deciding to pick one of those many AFSCs. There are tons of social media sights where you can speak with maintainers and get the honest pros and cons. Good luck and thanks to those who take up the call to defend our nation.

Just started my process to join the AirForce. But in my civilian life I been around aviation for 7 years and I love it. So I CAN NOT WAIT to join the United States AirForce.

Interesting chat. Looking forward to enlist.
Q: What chance does a guy that is enlisting at 28 years old as a structural airforce maintenance, has to train as a fixed wing aircraft pilot after completion of his 6 years contract?

ReadyReed, while you are still too young to enlist into the Air Force, it is never too early to start preparing. There are a few things you can do now to prepare for once you reach the required age. First study hard and graduate from high school. Get the best grades you can in all subjects especially English, Math and Science. This will help you improve your score on the ASVAB test which is required for enlistment. Say no to drugs and get an early start on physical conditioning are important steps in the right direction. And stay out of trouble. Law violations can delay and in some cases will disqualify you from joining the Air Force and taking advantage of the opportunities available. Starting early and being prepared are your best shot.
You may research more information about the Air Force on our site of www.airforce.com to include benefits like education, careers, training, lifestyle, requirements, etc.
There is also the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) portion that answers a lot of the most common questions asked: www.airforce.com/frequently-asked-questions/
You may also download the Aim High App: www.airforce.com/aim-high-app
By Federal Law you must be at least age 17 with parental consent and at least a junior to have an appointment or to join the Air Force. However, they may speak to recruiters when they come to their high school.
If qualified you can join at age 17 with parental consent during your junior or senior year in high school as part of The Air Force Ambassador Program and enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), but you will not go to Basic Military Training (BMT) until AFTER you graduate high school.

Q: Can an applicant of a civilian job be limited to getting a job on condition that he or she is married to a military personel?

No, you may apply without being married to a military member.

LET'S GO AIR FORCE!! Let's be honest...The United States Air Force is the most powerful air force in the world!!! NO ONE does air superiority better!! NO ONE has global reach global power better!! The U.S. Air Force should use the saying "the Few the Proud!". Once an Aiman ALWAYS an Airman!! HOOAH!!

Air Force Aviation will run you into the ground. Be careful choosing this career path.

Which specific career in airforce aviation and why do you say so?

Please explain more, you gotta follow that up with a reason why you think that.

@@samuelgodsey1327 your mental health will be completely stressed daily. You’ll be expected to get 12 hours of work done in 6-8 hours. It will completely tarnish your soul. I don’t have feelings these days. But I do see happy 18-22 year olds come in with smiles and joy and in 2 years or even less have a completely different mindset, attitude, outlook altogether.
Absolutely no one cares about your well being. I’ve lost quite a few close friends to suicide and a few others that I didn’t know too well.
Work at finance, Intell, CSS or FSS. Trust me.

@@samuelgodsey1327from what I’ve researched, it’s incredibly demanding OR your never actually flying..
From what I’ve researched most pilots say they are gone all the time. It wouldn’t be so bad but your service requirement is 10 years! Lots of missed family times.
Then there are people who say there is a side where you basically get stuck doing paper work 24/7 and you hardly get to fly.
