Overseen by Ed Woodward, Manchester United have been largely hit and miss in the market. Prior to Solskjaer’s arrival, the club was clearly bereft of a strategy that addressed weaknesses in the squad or engaged in much long-term planning. How much longer the manager is given to implement his ideas remains to be seen. So, with that in mind, more than, anything, United need a proper Director of Football to strategy, oversee recruitment, align a manager with a desired philosophy, all things that United seem to lack.
However, this video is about players. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United is actually not performing all that badly overall. Currently fifth in the table, they’re second for expected goals against this season, a measure of the quality of chances a team give to their opposition. Despite the team’s strikers playing well, it’s in attack creation where they have issues.

Fred, with his ever improving performances this last 3 months, is arguably our best player this season, and Bruno in his short time has been stellar.
Considering yesterday's match against Liverpool, they desperately need a creative midifielder and a left back as pointed out. Williams struggled all game on the left and Pereira was a ghost besides the pass to Martial who blew it to the crowd. United wished they had 10 Freds plus De Gea yesterday. He played superb on attack and defense.
I wonder if they've ever tried Rashford at #10. I think he would be fantastic. Then pick up a new striker or even buy back clause Memphis Depay.

Hey Tifo, do you reckon you could offer a comparison for these stats when talking about upgrading a player?
f.e. "5.1 passes to penalty area per 90" sounds cool, but I don't know how good that is versus Jesse Lingard for example. Would be nice to have a direct comparison of these numbers, like assists, deep completed passes, tackles, interceptions whatever, with the existing player in that position at the club.

CDM: Thomas Partey/Soumare
CM/CAM: Grealish/ Buendia
RW: Sancho/ Delofeu
LB: Dinge/ Massuaku
ST: Dembele/ Cavani

I come to this as a Spurs supporter, we're in similar situations, although Man U have historically had the much deeper pockets. You have Woodward who's dazzled by the star names and we have Levy who gets blinded by the dust from his wallet everytime he opens it... point is we both need a director of football more than anything else, although our teams needs are startlingly similar. I will be gutted if you get Bruno, but then you've got Pogba to sell, what have we got?

We've been building up to this for years now, we didn't refresh when we needed to, we're playing with some that want to leave and many that should already be gone. Poch was spot on and got the sack for his troubles. In the short term obviously a proven striker, a right back, left back and a defensive midfielder, with the striker as No1 priority and now we've got you as competition! I hope you give Ole a chance but my guess is there'll be an Argentinian soon enough.

United have pace to front and their forwards get into ok positions where they could accept a through ball but this ball never comes.
Why don't the players in deeper midfield make those passes into space so the forwards can run on to them?
It's so rare that these passes happen that it affects their forwards who often look static. They don't make those runs because those passes don't happen.

I feel like the deeper midfield don't have have the skill set to perform those passes.
Before Salah scored to make 2-0, the player that tried to prevent that goal was James. And that run and acceleration was crazy and hopefully he can create more moments that show his aspiring intent at Man Utd, hope to see more from him.

The idea of not having a GM, just leaving the main responsibility of signing players up to the coach and what he can convince the owner/board to do...
Benjamin Henrichs at full back would be a good signing. Very versatile, can play left back/right back and cdm/cm also, intelligent, very technical and two-footed, young with room to grow, he's already a German international also.

Anthony Caci could look like a serious bargain. Can play in pretty much any defensive role, and has good attacking output. A really good under the radar option. Would love it if Liverpool came in for him as a backup for Trent and Robbo

Let me tell you what would be sensible.
Sensible would be : to buy Fernandes now for 50-60 m, wait till the summer and sell Pogba for 100-120m , sell Lingard, Jones and Rojo; buy - Werner for 60 m, Sancho for about 100-120m, Koulibaly for 70-75m and Boubakary Soumare for 40 m for replacment for Pogba. For around 200-250 million neto, you bring quality, experience and great potential in the squad. I would also try to lure Toni Kroos away from RM, he would be great for United, dictating play from deep. Nonetheless, he almost joined is in the past which means he would liked to play for Manchester United.
These transfer can be done in one window... and that team would be capable of fighting for trophies. Eventually, in the transfer windows following 1-2 quality midfielders would be needed to replace Mata and Matic. Maddison perhaps and and Rice. Give Ole this squad and watch what happens!
Problem is with our management, with Woodward in charge ... I doubt it will happen!

Thank you for starting with a DoF! Any transfers without sorting this out are just temporary fixes of a wider problem.
As usual in this formate, the selceted players make a lot of sence for United. I don't know when you recorded this video but, with the recent long term injury to Rashford, a Striker/Winger is also needed. If you are also looking at the availability of players, you should consider, that Luis Alberto will likely not be available as an ex-Liverpool player, because fans wouldn't accept him and/or he probably doesn't like United.
