    Solskjaer has frequently spoken about recreating the spirit of United’s 1999 Treble season, without ever truly explaining what that entails tactically. But perhaps he’s achieved it; this United, like in the dying stages of that incredible European Cup final win over Bayern Munich, seem somewhat reliant on chucking the ball into the box at corners.

    Someone please show Solskjaer this, particularly the missed opportunities for counter-attacks. Every team and I mean every team we have played this season has given us an opportunity to counter them but so often you will see a united player, more especially midfielders, turn the ball back and give it to a center back or full back, now this is fine if you have someone like Messi in your team who can split even the tightest of defences but if your best creative playmaker (no.10) is Mata or Lingard the best bet of scoring goals is on a counter-attack.

    as a saddened Utd fan, i will simply put the issue on;
    1. We lack creativity in the middle of the field;
    Lingard/Mata/Pereira as No.10 doesn't work at all.
    None of above so far, had been creative enough to make passes that break opposition defends, or threatening enough into the box.
    more on passing merry-go-rounds.
    So thus Fred & McSauce as CM/CDM.
    While i can praise McSauce for his works rates on trying to win back the ball, Fred is ntg more like a clumsy-lost-child in the middle or trying to go forward.
    2. When your middle of the field are 'shite' , there's no such thing as good passes to the striker a.k.a Rashford.
    Plus he himself is not best in the position, this statically make it quite impossible to score goals.
    3. Our attacking set pieces this few seasons had been nothing much than scrambled eggs. I can't remember when was last someone score a header from a corner, or fk.
    just my opinions tho.

  • @davek9047

    No dynamism in midfield since Herrera left, McTominay solid but offers nothing going forward, Fred decidedly unsolid and offers just as little going forward, but at least runs, when Pogba decides he wants to be fit, he rarely leaves the centre circle and it looks like he's just there to spray over-ambitious passes from 20 yards too far away. Pereira looks like a good player but seems not to know his role. Mata should be the guy to be the playmaker but he seems to have forgotten how to play centrally after four years exiled at right wing, we still don't have a natural right-sided forward so the whole thing is unbalanced (although the obvious solution is to play Dalot there, Lingards been about as effective as an ashtray on a motorbike)
