$6,000 Electric Motorcycle vs $0 Twisty Roads

  • Today we take the beginner friendly 8kw solar e-clipse electric motorcycle out to the winding curvy roads of Malibu in the Santa Monica Mountains. It's some of the best motorcycle riding roads in the LA area, we'll see how this light weight carbon fiber motorcycle holds up.
    I haven't been riding my 72v sur ron much ever since getting the solar eclipse electric motorcycle... not because it's faster, because it's not. It's a new electric vehicle and it's fun, and stable at high speed. Think of the solar eclipse ebike as a mustang, and the 72v Sur ron as a Ferrari. The Solar E-clipse electric bike is a bit more tame and civilized, it's easier to be on for a longer ride. The 72v Sur ron is wild and fatiguing to be on for a long time. Love them both, and loved this ride. Enjoy the juiced joyride.

    The issues with the beta testing bikes have been addressed and resolved with updated controllers and chains. Having 100% rectification and fixing all the issues is definitely a positive outcome.
    It's also exciting that Solar is working on creating an Apple app for the Solar E-Clipse. Offering a dedicated app can enhance the user experience and provide additional functionality. I'm sure many people will be looking forward to its release.

      Thanks dude, funny you drop this comment on Juiced Joyrides saying keep it up “TailHappy” because I’m literally having a conundrum here deciding on what continent to post on what channel and if it even makes sense to have two channels or not. I’m about to post a high power electric scooter review and I don’t know if I should publish it on Juiced Joyrides or TailHappy. I’m kind of thinking that Juiced Joyrides should be for high power, non-exercise, kind of stuff, and keep TailHappy to electric bicycles and lower power, legal kind of stuff. It’s all very confusing and if you have any input, I’d like to hear.

    I feel different gearing will fix the motor cut outs, and give better torque. The gearing for that 60mph top speed has to be stressing the motor at all times. Swapping to a different cog in the rear wheel would greatly improve the bike and only cost 5mph in top speed.

    Lots of the aftermarket srron controllers have like a 100v cap which means the biggest battery you could run would be a 23s which is an 84v battery and fully charged its like 96v I know some people have made their own but why wouldn't the actual battery makers make them this way instead of 72v it would be the best performance you could get without using a controller meant for higher voltages. Why do you ride so close to the double yellow when going around the twisties? Where I'm from most people have zero regard for road markings and it's usually idiots in trucks driving straight down the center of back roads, which would be pretty scary on a bike like that! Also is the RPM just straight double digits or is it k's like it's read on cars? 52 sounds really low for max speed but 52,000 also sounds insanely high.

    • @JuicedJoyrides
      @JuicedJoyrides  ปีที่แล้ว

      Motor temp is shown in two digits Celsius, rpm is 4 digits, 5500 rpm is like 45 mph roughly. I need to get better at handling the bike and staying away from center line, need street tires. Been a while since I’ve had my sport bikes haha I’m rusty

      @@JuicedJoyrides Ah that makes a lot more sense, it'll be cool to see how it performs with the upgraded controller and street tires when you get those. Just stay safe man, I definitely wouldn't be wearing an open face helmet going 40mph. I see a lot of bikers ride the yellow whether it's electric bikes or gas bikes so I thought it might've been intentional but couldn't think of a reason why it'd be.

      You can crank up the rpm max limits, but I do not see a way to actually increase the amperage pulled from the battery. It runs out of power before it is able to achieve the highest unlocked rpm’s. It might not be a bad thing, makes for great range and steady good power, just not going to throw you into warp mode at the expense of draining the battery hyper quick

    So far what I’ve gathered on the Eclipse from these vids
    Cons:
    Poor brakes, sketchy tires, incorrect speedometer, incorrect battery voltage and has turned off completely at random multiple times. As well as being almost useless off-road with the vulnerable motor & it’s extra weight.
    Pros:
    Performs well on road, lightweight and street legal potential.
    I messaged solar about a bash guard they say will be releasing in the coming weeks. Also added the motor is covered under warranty if any physical damage happens. Idk if it’s worth it?

    • @JuicedJoyrides
      @JuicedJoyrides  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is pretty accurate really. I wouldn’t say it’s useless off road, but I wouldn’t use it for anything more than light trails. I’ve been using it on the street a lot. It’s been my favorite new toy and getting comfortable riding it, it’s great around town and feels stable at 50 mph. I’m chilling on a bench by the beach after 40 more miles in the mountains.
