Great video! Very useful information for a tricopter novice like me. David is the tricopter guru. His site is loaded with useful stuff on building tricopters.
On a quadcopter/hex/octo you would test yaw/rudder by rotating it and the motors rotating the direction opposite of the way you rotate it should speed up. For example, if I yaw it by hand clockwise, the motors spinning counter clockwise would speed up. Correct me if I am backwards, but I think this is right. I am going to test it on my quad tonight.
CJVideoProductions Probably not his vocabulary, but presentation and delivery is much more direct and faster, plus he's much more relaxed on-camera :) Love their humor and team spirit.
Now I wana NOTE there is a NEW beeper called VIFLY AND had a built in batt u plug into the TX if u lose link, toss a batt, ANYTHING it will beep up to 100 decibel and has light, even a sensor to stop beeping after sunset so it can beep again in the morning! A must have! @flighttest u should carry this or make one!
I am a late commer to the series, but have seen most and built several this winter. I am retired with a lot of time on my hands and BAD Hearing. The Turnigy BSEC Programming Card is a must when programming the Speed Control. I built the Tricopter and am waiting for the Programming Card. Hobby King has great prodicts but the shipping is terrable, even from the US warehouse.
Yes they are cheap but after you factor in the modules you have to add to it and a rechargeable lipo battery and a really good receiver, you might as well get a frysky taranis
Could you guys do an in depth video about flashing ESCs and flight boards for multi rotors. I am new at the hobby and can't find a really good resource for ESC flashing information.
Rather than balance motors by adding more weight you may consider using a dremel and sanding very small amounts of the motors bell housing off. I cannot stress "very small amounts" enough but once done there is no slippage and overall you may shave a few grams from your total weight instead of adding to it.
I really don't know anything about this very cool hobby other than watching vids. I am wondering if a design that pitched all three rotors toward the center would increase speed, response and stability.....
Good work guys. The whole tricopter is really getting too me. But i do have one question, cause i'm pretty much a novice, if i build such a tricopter, what remote do you recommend ? How many channels, wich frequence and which button's to have full control over the vehicle? Bear in mind i'm only a poor student so my budget isn't that large. thanks! :)
One more... make sure you install your stabilization board oriented properly. I put mine in at 90 degrees once, and as soon as you turn on the throttle it tries to correct itself by flipping upside down!
I notice that most people don't describe the difference between the p gain and the i gain on gyro gain adjustments. Can you describe the difference between the two?
Hi guys. I have a problem on my tricopter. The servo on the tail. Jitters badly. I have played with the PID's and servo filter to no avail. I was wondering if David has some experience on this or additional tips? I am on a multiwii board from readytoflyquads.
Moose, Matt Hall of simplecopter has some build videos and in them shows you how to set up the KK2 with tri-copters... search for 'hallstudio' on youtube to find them.
hi guys,,,i just built this tri using 2204 12a simon k esc andopenpilot cc3d....I follow exactly as another video ,,,,but when i maiden it it hoovers fine.....when i add alittle throttle it just flip and fall....where did i go wrong????tq
Sooo in davids v1-2 plans he cut out motor mounts and now he has the motors mounted directly on to the wood spares. He also has the yaw servo moved vertically underneath the arms. Is there any benefit for this? The ESCs are close to the props is that to help cool them, is that needed? i assume he does this for a reason of better performance
Click on our name below to view and purchase the "Windestal" frame parts pre-cut and even comes with the bolts! Then visit rcexplorer.se for davids electronic parts recommendations! David Windestal has given us permission to sell his "Windestal" tricopter Glass Fiber parts in g10 material.
@gjferg - I found out today thy are doing business from a UPS store, and haven't picked up any mail in weeks. That's good business. I'm just doing my best to get their attention. If I took your money and just gave you generic answers you would be pissed & try to track me down.
@UtRadioGuy You have posts up everywhere about it? Yeah, I think I read a few. Not trying to flame you but why don't you just make an anti-HobbyKing rant video or something. HK is a crap shoot, but you can't beat the price. When ordering from them, if it's insurance you want, my suggestion is buy two of whatever. It's probably cheaper than buying just one anywhere else. Please don't make everyone's mention of HobbyKing your personal complaint line. We all know the service (and QC) is substandard
Really? I had a broken lipo after first charge, sent them a picture, and got a full refund within 12 hours... Had props missing from a quad RTF kit, they replied and sent out new within 24 hours..
Don't EVER send anything back to Hobby King! They will rip you off. They got me for $63.00. I've tried everything to work it out with them, and nothing. All I get is check back later. I have posts up everywhere about it, and still nothing. They could care less about the customer. I left this here because HK supports you.
Best episode so far! I spent many hours at David's site looking at build descriptions and all his crazy (but fun) projects. Worth a look.
Thank you RC Explorer for sharing so much great information. We do appreciate it.

It's weird watching this stuff from 9 years ago, alot has changed.

Multimad mean and mad, David är fan bäst
david the swede... wow 2011, you guys sure have come a long way these last few years
I was noticing how much better David's English has gotten compared to this video.
CJVideoProductions Probably not his vocabulary, but presentation and delivery is much more direct and faster, plus he's much more relaxed on-camera :) Love their humor and team spirit.

+Daan van gorp I would recommend the Turnigy 9X. Great radio, and cheap. You can get from HobbyKing

you should do an interview with b1 bob and his thunderchief, that would make a good episode!
Thank you guys. As always nice show.
Another great show! very good thank you ...
Yeah, that site is great. I was able to find out all I need. Thanx
If your servo has the jitters lower the p&i gains on the rudder (yaw) and I did mine 5 at a time
This was so helpful for me. Thanks guys!
Great Video! I love this thing. Can you get a copy of the parts list please?

NIce episode guys!
great work ,.

woooow i liked the new intro

Save yourself some money and get a Frysky Taranis. It's by far one of the best quality transmitter for a really good price
One more... make sure you install your stabilization board oriented properly. I put mine in at 90 degrees once, and as soon as you turn on the throttle it tries to correct itself by flipping upside down!
VERY COOL BUT CAN U PUT GPS ON A TRICOPTER IF SO WOULDNT IT HELP FLYING IT ...LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
what is the little piece that link the unmoving part and the moving part of the motor on the tail ?
do you have an older video where you actually do the motors and blades balancing?
I've been correcting all of my friends to "siptie" now :)
Windestal ownz
That Tricopter is So neet, are there any plans to make it with, Take care and have fun, Chellie
I notice that most people don't describe the difference between the p gain and the i gain on gyro gain adjustments. Can you describe the difference between the two?
How does this tricoptor pivot or deal with gyroscopic forces or drag?
@shebotnov TriCopters fly smoother and allow for a wider field of view for the camera.
@TheGrabist you can buy a HK kk board for $30 and program it with tri film ware. thats what i did :)
What did the tricopter scene look like before david came along?
What kv motors do you use and what size props I want to build a tricopter and I will use this platform

Dude with red cheeks has a name. Its David. He is from sweden and he is awesome.
can we please have a video on exactly how to set up the KK2 board, my bat bones rudder (prop tilt) still wont work... :(

Who still loves tricopters on 2021?
How come he hasn`t demonstrated the Swedish slapping method yet? heheh GR8 stuff guys.
Great Video......what's the deal with the background noise ???

Where can we get the KK board now that David no longer has them?
Sir Big fan
metric is so easy, its the way of the future
What gyros? Funny how far we've advanced since then.
David come back!!!
Tim D ,
better quadri or tricopters then? in therms of flying...
My tricopter is not flying and it's rotating is this because of gyro how can I solve the problem
Go Dadde =)
And Sweden
What size frame was that in the video thanks
Which tricopter is that And where can I buy one
Where can you get a KK board?
"Sip-tie"
Try getting a Swede to pronounce 'jacket' correctly :D Swedish 'J' is so funny to me.
More like "ceep-tie"

Once got 12x4.7 prop in fingers form quadcoppter because of wrong Gyro settings!
Be aware!!

Great info, but what a shame its spoilt by the bloody awful background Muzak and the twitching zooms. Frame the shot and LEAVE THE ZOOM ALONE!!

David is looking like a dork
Thank you guys. As always nice show.
