Confidence for me came when I finally learned more and embraced who I was. I actually embraced being an introvert. I took the Myers Briggs personality test and so closely identified to the INFP personality type result I got. I read the book "Quiet" by Susan Cain and I cannot recommend that book enough! And on a religious side I really grew in my Catholic faith and that helped so much with confidence and self worth too. Like Clancy mentioned at the end of this video it reminds me of the dignity of the human person so emphasized within Catholicism- you are no less important than Bill Gates or the person next to you! It's such a beautiful thing to view life that way. We are all so profoundly important and our worth as a human being cannot ever change, even when we think we are worthless. What we think doesn't always reflect reality.
How I gained my confidence was keeping my mental and physical state healthy while I learned to accept I'm nobody but myself so there's no point in trying to be somebody else. Also finding your passion helps A LOT because if you aren't confident in your looks, you'll at least be confident with your talents.
I think there is definitely something to be said about how you were raised. If you were supported emotionally/physically provided for/financially comfortable, as a child in your home, self esteem is usually less of an issue. Her family is still close even though both children are grown and out of the nest. They may not be lovey dovey...but both her parents and especially her mom were/was there to make she was properly settled in her new home (out of town, no less) Not all of us are so fortunate. Confidence is directly correlated with self esteem..and so for some, it is actually easy. I wouldn't say it's a norm...but it should be. Mentally Healthy ppl should be our goal as a society and as current parents... Even for ourselves. It's certainly my goal for my kids, and self. I think that's her point.
"You don't like yourself, make yourself into someone you would like" yes!! Perfectly stated! I'm watching this video for a second time because I love the way you speak about confidence!
Clanc, sometimes I just want to hop in my car and drive to Ohio to get lunch with you to talk about being young professionals in the workforce. You inspire me to keep working hard even when I am the youngest hired teacher where I work. I love seeing these vlogs. Get to reading that book!!!
okay so i freaking love you btw! but i little thing on the whole confidence talk: I don't think it's exactly the best message to be giving out (especially to teenagers) saying that if I'm insecure=i bring all my friends down and therefore no one wants to be friends with me. It's incredibly damaging to say things like that to already insecure people. A lot of people who are insecure (like myself) struggle every day to improve that! It's not like I'm sitting here in a pool of insecurity and saying "wow I'm perfectly content with my mindset right now". I truly love you and your videos but I just had a few words to say about your confidence talk today.
It has been several years since I follow you through your vlogs, you became a magnificent young woman and you really have the era to be very spread in your new job, when I see you in the TV I have the impression that you make your job for years, you are very natural and very professional. she's only speaking from experience. for her, it was something that was just there and made sense. everyone has different experiences so it would be hard for her to relate when she hasn't gone through it herself. personally I'm v happy she is genuine to us and herself
