I am 56 and I am a native Portuguese speaker. I realized what you explained in your video many years ago. I decided to stop thinking that a chair is a "cadeira" and just put the image of a chair in my mind when I hear the word Chair. This approach made a lot for me. The difficult part is to do the same for intangible things. However the process is absolutely the same. Now my new challenge is to learn the expressions that native speakers use in their daily conversation. Why teachers never teach you that? This make the whole difference because you can't expect the other person will only talk plain vocabulary in a conversation. By the way: The few words you've spoken in Portuguese in your video sounded very Brazilian. Congrats!

I am a native speaker and taught for 5 years. When I was young I wasn't a great student in class, but in my own time I would read dictionaries to build vocabulary and read encyclopaedias to widen my knowledge. Music is great because songwriters employ repetition and patterns in their songs. I used to break down songs teaching in China to explore ructions patterns, syntax, colloquialisms etc. Its useful.
If I go back in time, 13 years or so, I'd tell myself not to worry and keep pushing because there will come that time I finally understand and use full English.. I literally started from scratch. I remember myself learning the alphabet with a song on TH-cam. I wanna tell people out there it is possible; just commit to it, love it, embrace it, and make it part of your life; it becomes natural. Give yourself patience and time, time among all, because it will kick in, it will click. Thanks, Gab. I came across this video, and it was super interesting to watch.

I totally get this. She's right. I'm British but lived in Denmark for a few years, I didn't start thinking in Danish until until I started reading Danish novels, saying the Danish in my head as I was reading. Eventually I stopped translating in my head. It was almost like when I first started swimming or riding a bicycle. It was like "I'm doing it, I'm doing it ".
I got a tip that might help people thinking in english: sometimes is hard for me to simply force myself to speak or think in english. What i try to do is listen to someone (no matter wether its music, podcasts or videos) first for few seconds or minutes and then i feel more comfortable and get udes to the language. Thats the way i use to get into english way of thinking. It has been helping me a lot.
Exactly... All of these is what I would recommend my Spanish students and those who have taken Spanish courses for years and still are not able to speak the language bcs they were mostly thought grammar and translating word by word.

Try to use the internet only in English, forget your Arabic language completely, register in forums and websites of your interests then interact with other members in English, and watch unpopular movies and TV-shows with English subtitle ( leave the best and the popular when you become advanced like a native speaker ), in conclusion do what you like in English and make your entire life-style like a native one. . . . . Hey, don't compare me with her she's far better than me.
For me, the best way to learn English is to practice a lot of courses. according to the teacher I usually watch her videos, there are three ways to be good at English First, you have to absorb English Second, you have to produce English, and Third, make sure to practice your pronunciation.
Hey Gabby, my name is Jorge and I am from Paraguay. I have been learning English since I was 14 (now I am 24) at the beginning I had a lot of problem as you said understanding because I was translating everything in my head before I respond or simply to understand a question, so I struggled a lot before I started to think in English and everything was way easier... How did I do that? Well many people might think this is crazy but what I do it's talk to myself in English, daily things such as WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TODAY? And start thinking about my ''agenda'' you know like TODAY I MUST GO TO CLASS, IN THE AFTERNOON I NEED TO MEET MY FRIENDS, TOMORROW I NEED TO PAY MY CREDIT CARD BILL and things like that you know, I made English my second daily language after Spanish, also having my computer and my phone in English help me up a lot too because I am constantly in a ''English environment'.'' Then you have thousands of other options to actually use your English everyday: TH-cam, Music, read something in Internet, anything that might make you have some practice everyday, try to use my English in my real life situation, that's very helpful. I hope I can help someone with y tip. :)

I learned how to think in English by memorizing my favorite Bible verses. As a kid, I used to memorize Bible verses and even entire chapters just for fun. born and raise in a poor country, my mom's Bible was one of the few books available for me. Later in life, I had the privilege to come to the U.S and I found myself with the need to learn English and I had to learn it fast. My way to achieve that goal was by reading/saying out loud to myself the english translation of my most inspiring Bible verses in Spanish and try to feel the same emotions as I would in Spanish. ..it worked well for me.
As a Brazilian I can say that your Portuguese is marvellous. I think we don't need to rid our accents to speak another language. I love your classes! Thank you for helping us to improve our English skills! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Hey Gaby, I'm from Brazil. I've start learning English sort of four weeks, and my bigger difficult is listening and understand what native speakers says. But I feel i'm improving after start watching english videos without subtitles (english sibtitibles) because I used pay attention in the reading when what really matter is what I hear. Moreover, whatching series and videos helps me increases my vocabulary, and this makes me more and more understand without translat.
Nice video Gabby. Describing things in your target language by talking mentally or in an audible voice to yourself is an excellent option too. For example; if you are at home and see a table, think in your target language "A table. This is a table. It´s a wooden table. It´s a modern table. It isn´t a big table but it´s a small one. It's a beautiful table. I like this table. It´s a very useful table. I eat my meals at this table. My family also eats meals here too. How would my life be if I didn't have this table?... But I have it!... I enjoy having a table!.. But, wait a minute... it´s a small table and we are a family living here; so maybe I would try to sell this table and buy another one. That's the point!... We need to buy a new table!... Hey!.. Wait a minute again!... Don´t you remember the name of the person who gave you this table on your birthday?... Yes!... you're right: your mom. Oh, how could I forget this?... Well, in that case, I´m going to continue having this table. I will find a different place for it in my home and I will buy another one for my dining room. Mon I love you!... Every time from now, when I see this small table I'll remember you. I hope you still remember me from heaven". Now, imagine all that you can speak to yourself about all things you can see in your home, or better yet, when you go out you will have a universe of people and things to do a similar exercise to this. Blessings!
Loved your video & thanks for sharing . English is my second language & I can speak fluent English without thinking of my own language , never did & never does. GOD BLESS!

Jojo! Se puder me passa mais algumas dicas, eu sou iniciante no idioma, mas já entendo algumas coisas, principalmente se tiver legenda in English.

Try watching movies and series in english (with subtitles also in english) so you can practice your speaking, considering that you'll pause whatever you're watching and try to reproduce, in a loud voice, the speech you hear. That really helped me on talking with more fluence! I did it while I was learning the language and I still do it sometimes, because everything we don't practice we and up getting a little rusty.

Here is a tip that has personally helped me improving my vocabulary: whether you are reading a book, watching a movie, listening to music, or having a conversation and you come across a word or phrase you don't know the meaning of, don't go looking for the meaning in your native language but look for the definition in English. This way your mind will learn to associate those words in English rather than translating in Spanish first.
I studied English two years ago, but without practicing I have forgotten some words and many things, I´m going to practice your advices and introduce totally english in my life. Thanks

Não sou professor mas algo que está me ajudando bastante é: Pegar uma frase em inglês e olhar a tradução apesar da maioria dos professores não recomendar. Mas nesse ponto eu simplesmente visualizo a imagem daquela frase e então passo a associar repetidas vezes a frase em inglês. Após fazer isso repetidas vezes a imagem estará associada a frase em inglês.
Hello, again Gabby!. At 80's I was a teenager and I enjoy listening to songs in English, but honestly, I only understood a few words, nevertheless, I continued enjoying listening to the music and the melodic voices of the singers. At that time I did have the opportunity to learn the lyrics of my favorite songs. Now is different. I´m an English teacher and I say to my students they are fortunate because they are living in the technology age. Today it´s really easy to learn songs in our target language due to the Internet, especially TH-cam channels. Now I can listen to, learn and sing my favorite songs in English. This exercise had let me improve my English pronunciation skill, and better yet, I've been motivated to write my own songs (about ten) in English. I would like someday could share my English songs with the world. Take care!

There is Mormon's mission in my country. They organize free speaking club twice a week. It is not about religious. There are topics like "do you believe in love at first sight"? Or "what is better summer or winter?" This is great practice with Americans for me, I think you can try find them in China.

Practice is what you need. You can practice with native speakers on many different applications. The important thing is to practice speaking. You can practice speaking with yourself also. With a native speaker, they can give you corrections, but by practicing alone, you help your brain develop a connection between all of your vocabulary understanding and your mouth. Without practice, all the language you know is just an information data bank in your brain. Things like Cambly can really be useful for this

Yes she is amazing
Because knowledge matters which provides context
Same feeling
I'm a portuguese speaker and I share the same point of view that you have. She speaks so easy to understand but this doesn't happen with movies, tv show etc...
FM D exactly, a friend of mine gave me a good tip; we need to watch more movies in English. A good idea is, try first to watch the movie in your language; then watch it in English
¡Gracias!
I’m learning English by talking to my friends in English, I’m talking to myself ( SOO WEIRD IK ) watching videos ....... I’m doing all that she said and trust me for everyone it helps a lot I’m progressing everyday ♥️

I have been following you for past many months, i have learnt a lot from your classes, may u be blessed and be rewarded for this noble act of Educating the masses.
Thank you :-)
I got a tip that might help people thinking in english: sometimes is hard for me to simply force myself to speak or think in english.
Taught not thought :)
Your Portuguese is better than many people I know here in Brazil. Thank you for this lesson!
Thanks , they're really beneficial tips .. and you have to Love The language that you want to learn. Again and again you are super ,super.😍

mohamad khubayb Thanks lol
Can u help me cuz u know english better then her :)
Why I'm better than her and how can I help you?
mohamad khubayb cuz u know Arabic like me ! I want u to tell me how can i speak well in english
Try to use the internet only in English, forget your Arabic language completely, register in forums and websites of your interests then interact with other members in English,
and watch unpopular movies and TV-shows with English subtitle ( leave the best and the popular when you become advanced like a native speaker ),
in conclusion do what you like in English and make your entire life-style like a native one.

Hey, don't compare me with her she's far better than me.
What i liked most in teaching is pauses between sentences, beautiful accent
For me, the best way to learn English is to practice a lot of courses. according to the teacher I usually watch her videos, there are three ways to be good at English First, you have to absorb English Second, you have to produce English, and Third, make sure to practice your pronunciation.
Absolutely! Practice is indeed key when it comes to learning English.
And start thinking about my ''agenda'' you know like TODAY I MUST GO TO CLASS, IN THE AFTERNOON I NEED TO MEET MY FRIENDS, TOMORROW I NEED TO PAY MY CREDIT CARD BILL and things like that you know, I made English my second daily language after Spanish, also having my computer and my phone in English help me up a lot too because I am constantly in a ''English environment'.''
Then you have thousands of other options to actually use your English everyday: TH-cam, Music, read something in Internet, anything that might make you have some practice everyday, try to use my English in my real life situation, that's very helpful. I hope I can help someone with y tip. :)
Thanks ❣👍
The exposition of new language is key because we felt really the neediness
thank you
Thank you ❤❤
Jorge Schwimmer i am right now may speaking or understand is really hard for me so could u help to me what did you do plz? and also i would like to speak native people sorry abou my bad english
Very useful and simple ways to speak natural English. Thank you ,beautiful teacher
You know this language. Why are you watching this video?

Really, I started to learn English three months ago and these things are improving my English.
Sua pronúncia em português é excelente!

English is my second language & I can speak fluent English
without thinking of my own language , never

1.I listened 24/7 to english music

Jojo! Se puder me passa mais algumas dicas, eu sou iniciante no idioma, mas já entendo algumas coisas, principalmente se tiver legenda in English.

Lizz Betty I’m like you,I understand but talking is little difficult
Same here
I need to practice more
Try watching movies and series in english (with subtitles also in english) so you can practice your speaking, considering that you'll pause whatever you're watching and try to reproduce, in a loud voice, the speech you hear. That really helped me on talking with more fluence! I did it while I was learning the language and I still do it sometimes, because everything we don't practice we and up getting a little rusty.
Aww thank you all,,let's try our best until we talk fluent English,.

Como empezar a pensar en ingles.
1) Comience con pequeñas actividades en ingles
-Configura tu celular en ingles
-Usa el ingles cuando paseas con tu perro.
2) Escucha màs ingles
-Escucha musica en ingles
-Escucha podcast, radio, videos, netflix
3) Trate de adivinar o planear lo que un hablante nativo va a decir en la siguiente conversación., presentación, etc. Esto ayuda a preparar el cerebro a recibir informaciòn.
4) Pare de aprender exclusivamente a través de la traducción

Here is a tip that has personally helped me improving my vocabulary: whether you are reading a book, watching a movie, listening to music, or having a conversation and you come across a word or phrase you don't know the meaning of, don't go looking for the meaning in your native language but look for the definition in English. This way your mind will learn to associate those words in English rather than translating in Spanish first.
ChocolateMilk FatFree really good ^^
ChocolateMilk FatFree what's the tool you'd recommend me to use for looking for definitions in english?
Oscar López any dictionary in English only, Google, www.wordreference.com

recommend this!

Wow
Gabby, I'm loving your channel. I'm from Brazil, and I really appreciate your pronunciation in your portuguese phrases. Thank you for all tips.
Não sou professor mas algo que está me ajudando bastante é:
Pegar uma frase em inglês e olhar a tradução apesar da maioria dos professores não recomendar.
Mas nesse ponto eu simplesmente visualizo a imagem daquela frase e então passo a associar repetidas vezes a frase em inglês.
Após fazer isso repetidas vezes a imagem estará associada a frase em inglês.
It's more easy you to learn in the context than to do how you do.
Vai por mim... 🇧🇷
Take care!
Also make a foreign friends is a good way to start learning in English. I mean when u chat with ur friend absolutely u speak in English with him/her, so at the same time u r listening how is the way he/she talk. Then u can learn it n keep it.

Thanks so much. My native language is Chinese, and I have studied english for 10 years, and full of vocabulary , but poor in speaking english. I speak english every day with my child who are 2 years old.
There is Mormon's mission in my country. They organize free speaking club twice a week. It is not about religious. There are topics like "do you believe in love at first sight"? Or "what is better summer or winter?" This is great practice with Americans for me, I think you can try find them in China.

Olá. Sou brasileiro e estou aprendendo muitíssimo com seus vídeos.
I can understand every thing but some times is hard to talk.. Thx
it is because you don't talk that's why!
You have to go to America or England and speak to people there..
Things like Cambly can really be useful for this
Come with me dude, I gotta give you a helicopter drive up above the country of America and from there I will thrash you out with the parachute to land in there smoothly.....staying there you'll learn English too well....😄😄😄😄😄
