    Hip. Here. Now. Now!

      I think the actual lyric is “Him? Here? Now? No!”
      I found it an intense moment for him to sing this during the tour because throughout the years one interpretation of the song that I had always heard is that Gord is singing about the Grim Reaper. He had a period where a lot of songs were about death. The last show when he sang that and dropped the mic crushed me.

      pipdream46 Justin Bieber has done more for Canada in his short career than this band has in their entire 20 something year career. Also, in terms of quality of music one Rush song just utterly obliterates the entire anthology of this band.

    Truly a work of art. This man left in all on the stage......to the end! An inspiration from probably the most modest of guys in the music world. I don't cry or tear too easy but,when Gord does his thing at the end of this song,it makes me tear up. I could think of a million others who could have what happened to Gord. Not naming names but,they know who they are. Gord, I would trade places with you as you brought so much joy,reasoning, compassion, humour and everything else you love in a human being. Where as me,I can't even make myself happy. Truly humble fellow,Mr. Downie. Wish to go on and try to continue being a compassionate Canadian and much more kinder to our fellow man and woman! Cheers!

    For me, this has always been their best song played live as it rises and falls giving Gord the time to wail and improvise. They opened with this the first and only time they played on SNL. That was great. This version was sublime. The king is dead but his spirit lives on (and on, and on…)

    what a fucking guy, what a goddam gift to share your story, your pain, the meaning you made out of it with the whole damn country... your tour, and your alignment with our aboriginals is one of the most captivating narratives of my life. because of you I've given thousands to the TRC, you catalyzed the connection to the story of our past. ever so grateful, and humbled by your bare humanness. in the day of trump, you let me hold my fucking head up as a member of the human family. ever in your debt my friend, my brother, peace be on you...

    • @michaelpark5681
      @michaelpark5681 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ravinder I was reading about this guy on wiki and it seemed that much of his work with the aboriginals was well after his cancer diagnosis. If his activism was so important in the reconciliation movement the Canadian media certainly didn't give two shits about it until he was sick. It's funny. Nobody gave a shit about this band or Gord Downie until he got cancer. And afterwards he started getting treated like a fucking martyr lmao.

      See, and to me, that's the absolute beauty of the Hip. They are YOURS AND YOURS ALONE! I mean, yah, a scant few of us in the US are just as Canadianly infatuated with with them as all of Maple-ville, but for the overwhemingly vast majority, they're your thing. And you know what? Embrace that. They're as Canadian as hockey, beavers, and Timmy Ho's. There's nothing "American" about them. There's nothing European about them. They're Canada in a song. Or a CD. Or a discography.
      Claim them as yours. You deserve them. I mean that as sincerely as possible.

    • @truenorth1968
      @truenorth1968  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the weeks leading up to this run of shows, I spent a lot of time copying and pasting setlists from the Hip's website to missing spots on setlist.fm, and learned that they played a LOT of shows in the U.S. and overseas. Sometimes small theaters, sometimes larger bars. They definitely had a following outside of the "great white north". Not nearly what they should have, but I am proud to embrace them as purely Canadian.

      I use a Sony DSC-HX300. It's just a little bit better than what security would allow in, but I was able to politely convince them to let me in. The maximum optical zoom is 50x. Digitally, it would go to 100x, but that would require a tripod. The videos this takes are incredibly sharp. Worth every penny!
