A very basic synopsis (anything more gives away too much imo): "Keiichi Maebara has just moved to a remote village named Hinamizawa and made quick friends with the girls from his school. But as he begins to learn about the history of the village he starts to question what dark secrets the community may be hiding." It's a horror, but the best aspect is the mystery imo so it's best not to know too much going in.
I'd also add that new viewers shouldn't go into the show with the mindset that it's like a ooky spooky horror bloodfest. The series is VERY psychological
Tbh I had a bit trouble understanding the original first season, but as I started and got through the second season my mind was just blown and it's been one of my favorite series ever since. Read the manga, visual novels and seen all of the anime. So I dooo recommend you continuing now if you want to! ^^
@@NovaMosh i ve seen other youtubers make the same mistake one of the ops is longer than the other ops and they don’t realize the reason it is longer is because they are not watching the normal op but the full version of a song, ops are 1 minute 30 seconds if a video is longer than that its usually the full version of the song
Oh god that Satoko art in that last ED hurts so much. Been waiting for more episodes before watching the new Higurashi remake, but I guess watching 2 or 3 episodes would be fine.
"This ending is very peaceful." Man, the first ending song scares the shit out of me. Season 1 always had very ominous/creepy cliffhanger ending scenes, and if you play the ending song immediately afterward it becomes traumatic. On top of that the ending song is always followed by a creepy preview too. Double traumatic.
Higurashi: I'm gonna murder everyone and make you have nightmares forever and wish to die Higurashi Kai: The same but now you get the conclusion Higurashi Rei: But what if instead of all that we make you feel lonely Higurashi Kira: Nevermind all that, welcome to OVA land, everyone is a waifu now, even your grandfather Higurashi Gou: The same as Higurashi but with better design and a direct sequel to Kai or Rei that you don't have to watch the previous ones to enjoy (and even make the people who watched the previous ones get shocked)
Actually, Higurashi Gou isn't the same as the first season! It is a completely new entry in the series with the story being continued. Higurashi Gou covers the fiest 13 episodes, after that Higurashi Sotsu follows, of which the first episode, aka episode 14 came out. Also, Umineko no naku koro ni and Umineko no naku koro ni chiru are important entries in the series, so I would recommend checking them out, if you haven't alreayy:)
Obligatory suggestion for those looking to get into this series: If you're willing to play the visual novel then do that before watching any of the anime since as you'd expect there's way more content and it makes for an incredible experience. The first chapter is free on steam, mangagamer and GOG, and the rest of the series is currently 50% off. Also check out the 07th mod patch if you want console art, 1440p, and full voice acting (same VAs as in the anime). If you are unwilling to play the visual novel due to time/money/w.e then the manga is the least time consuming option and its a good adaptation. But obviously if neither option appeals to you then just start with the 2006 anime. Or just start with the new anime if you're unwilling to do that either.
I don't think that that is a good idea, because if you already read the visual novel then the anime will be a beg let-down, so it's best to watch the 2006 anime/ the manga before you read the VN
To add to this: don't bother with the Umineko anime. It's terrible and doesn't do the VN any justice. I consider Umineko No Naku Koro Ni the best fiction I've experienced, and almost missed out on it due to the godawful anime adaptation. I rarely drop anime but, apart from the opening, it has 0 redeeming qualities. At the very least read Umineko's manga but stay away from the anime. READ THE VN! IT'S WORTH EVERY SECOND! :D
Quick synopsis - it's an anime about a group of friends, who are on their way to learn that the way to escape their grisly fate is to trust each other. On the way, some gory stuff happens.
Here's a fun fact:- The noises from the second op, the op of kai, is actually a reverse version of the noises of the noises from the first op. You'll notice this is you play Kai's op in reverse. It's such a cool detail and i love it!!!
Higurashi categorizes its shows based on name rather than numbers, but its watch order basically goes little like this: 1) Higurashi & Higurashi *Kai* [Season 1 and 2] 2) Higurashi *Rei* (Side stories) 3) Higurashi *Kira* (OVA's) 4) Higurashi *Outbreak* (idk how to categorize this one but it can sort of be categorized as another OVA) 5) Higurashi *GOU* (Season 3 pretty much.) BTW, there is another series called "Umineko" which is somewhat if not important to the plot of Higurashi
Too bad the Umineko anime is... pretty ass. It's fun to see the VN animated after reading it, but I can't forgive the anime for almost making me miss out on the best story I've ever read. To this day 1 of the only 2 anime series I've ever dropped. If anyone reads this and hasn't read the VN: the Umineko anime is, apart from its masterpiece of an opening, absolutely terrible. Especially compared to the source material. Do yourself a favor and read the VN. You will NOT regret it. It do be a bit long though :)
That last OP isn't a reboot but a full sequel. This series is one of the few that can actually do a sequel and remake at the same time thanks to the core of the plot. Also the thrid OP and ED are from a season that is full comedy and isn't part of the actual plot.
If you want to know, the 2020 higurashi was marketed as a remake but on episodio 2 they suprise change the title and reveal that was a 3third season. It was said before the reveal that It was safe for new fans to watch since It still is a remake/sequel but the arcs hace change and i might end Up as a while different show later
There's a new ending song for Gou now. Definitely a great one. I think it's a little funny you mention that the guy with the baseball bat felt a little spoiler-y, it's actually the very first thing you see in episode 1 of the first higurashi.
While the spook aura is still around, I recommend both the Shiki openings and endings and the Umineku no naku koro ni (yes, it's somewhat related to this) openings and endings. Absolutely fantastic music. Also I recommend, just watching the old anime and just jump right into it with almost no context, no synopsis. In the words of the novel ''If you have a theory then you already won'' (or something along those lines). It's a great one.
So, for the people who are veterans of Higurashi, is the new series just a readaptation or do I need to watch the one before this? Edit: I watched all of the Higurashi no naku koro ni episodes but should I also watch Kai and Rei? I started Gou’s first episode but I remembered them afterwards.
It's technically a sequel that builds off the events of the original but it's been written so that it can function as an alternative entry point (according to the director and just based off the first 5 eps I agree). So if you want the full experience do the OG first (VN, manga, or anime) then watch the new one.

it's a little dificult to explain higurashi and all tne " no kaku koro ni" univers but yes in short it's horror but not any type of harror, it's psychological horror taht explore madness , religions, horrible acts done in believe torture and much more with a little "mystical" part! just in short you will see horrible things hapening with deaths then that will star over with even the deads peoples alive to see even more horror! many peoples believe in the begining that's just "short horror stories" that's not, everything really happen and "rewind" ( more or less) there is a reason to that but you won't understand it until you had played some games that happen in the past that explain the past and story of "hannyu" ( nickname) and an unknow character in this anim " rikku"! you can understand most parts and in the serie even kenchi the main char understand some but you won't get "everything" with just the anime... the anime ( and sound novel that is the origine) are " disturbing! and don't think even one second you would understand anything with just the first season it's the " season of questions" the second season " higurashi no naku koro ni kai" is the season af answer ( that don't repeat the questions)!

You should go watch the openings and endings of Shiki if you haven’t already
Take a look at Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Daybreak OP... it's a higurashi fighting game, yes a fighting game, the OP is anime style
Amazing show but u should watch the original before watching the new one, its 100 percent recommend to watch in order
Lol, I dont think its hard to realize the Kira opening was the full one.
肌と目が新品でビビった!
You not gonna do more reactions?
Does this mean you're going to react to more openings again? If so I highly recommend Psycho - Pass, it's one of my favourites and also has some amazing openings/endings. This is not a horror anime
It is _the_ horror anime
Op 3 and 4 is from a Ova.
@NovaMosh hi.. mii~
Season 3 only has 5 episodes and it's kinda a waste of time but not really. Season 4 tho..... It's totally a waste of time.... Unless you like some fan service episodes then it's totally worth it :) XD
it's a little dificult to explain higurashi and all tne " no kaku koro ni" univers but yes in short it's horror but not any type of harror, it's psychological horror taht explore madness , religions, horrible acts done in believe torture and much more with a little "mystical" part! just in short you will see horrible things hapening with deaths then that will star over with even the deads peoples alive to see even more horror! many peoples believe in the begining that's just "short horror stories" that's not, everything really happen and "rewind" ( more or less) there is a reason to that but you won't understand it until you had played some games that happen in the past that explain the past and story of "hannyu" ( nickname) and an unknow character in this anim " rikku"! you can understand most parts and in the serie even kenchi the main char understand some but you won't get "everything" with just the anime... the anime ( and sound novel that is the origine) are " disturbing! and don't think even one second you would understand anything with just the first season it's the " season of questions" the second season " higurashi no naku koro ni kai" is the season af answer ( that don't repeat the questions)!
