Leon Russell should be in every hall of fame related to music with everything he done in his career, if there was a hall of fame for just being "cool", he'd be a charter member first round pick.

Ain't that the truth. All hell is breaking loose in front of him and Leon with a Marlboro in his mouth sitting back there like "I got this "
I friend of mine plays keyboard and Leon invited him down for a couple weeks just to get him ready to go on the road. He said Leon was one of the nicest humans he had ever known.

Here's an irony. Leon Russell overcame 'spastic paralysis' (now called cerebral palsy) to develop an sublime ability to play piano with a driving left hand rhythm. Joe sang with driving and seeming uncontrollable spasticity. What a masterful combination!!!

"Straight Up". And played piano on their hit from that album "Day After Day" George Harrison produced it and played Slide Guitar on the song along

@@maryse-christiancote-jutra4311 - of course God is not 'rocking out' and I highly doubt that Pedro Diaz meant that literally in his comment? -but was most likely expressing in his own way a RIP type comment as he was complimenting Leon for his talents, and hard work @putting all this together w/about 40 or more people? & stage crew workers, etc., etc., ETC., And in such a very short amount of time.. So, I can only assume my reasonings I am stating, in attempts of defense to whatever exact part of his comment seemed to maybe have highly offended you -perhaps?? My concern and efforts to reply to your comment is because as a I am a Christian believer, and I felt a need/or desire to try and attempt to help you to try to not be so offended with his comment concerning God, or whatever provoked you to be so judgemental, or whatever- that would cause you to strongly imply that now deceased Leon Russell would be 'with the devil' (which implies that he be damned to hell)?! I do not know your personal beliefs, of course; But I could not help but notice the word Christian in your name (which really doesn't mean that has anything to do w/your personal beliefs, I wouldn't think, And is none of my business anyway-I know) But just in case you are a Believer in God, and 'I think that is what I must have assumed as I contemplated about replying to you @your comment' -that I guess I hope for you not to have realized, or meant for it to be interpreted in the way it does? (And @me stating about having to 'contemplate' about replying, is Bcuz I have such severe vision loss that I do not usually ever comment about anything to anyone, including close friends or family- in this form of communication that requires vision to see to type, etc., as it takes me a very long time, & Also a Lot of effort to see well enough to type or write even short sentences) -to Which this has definitely not turned out to be, & for which I apologize; And the main reason for the lengthiness is Also Because I knew as I decided to comment, And because of the 'subject matter' being related to what some could be offended by, or be very objective to- at any type of reference to what I guess could be termed as the subject of religion- AND I Knew that I could possibly be risking @touching a nerve in someone else that can see my worldwide- public comment/reply to you here, and may inadvertently on my behalf; But to some others be used for reason to become combative or bully acting (to which I would hope not to offend anyone) -But therefore I felt that it was very important that I weigh my words carefully, and try my best to help resolve, or understand better @whatever may have offended you possibly? -from Pedro's reference to Leon Russell rocking with God? (That the wording kinda struck me a little at 1st, and 2nd re-reading of it.lol) And to make this long comment @your reply a lot shorter- Like I stated above.. -& also @me possibly being totally wrong, As I could only be assuming.. But I sincerely did not think that you were really meaning for your comment to imply that you truly meant that Leon Russell should be with the devil, or in hell? -And that is what prompted me to want to bring it to your attention; And if I am mistaken, and that is how you truly meant for it to say? Then I guess I would just be left wondering why you were here on his music, if not a fan?! And also, if I was mistaken, then please excuse me if I wasted much of your time; because this comment has had me tied up for many many hours to get to here, But if my original thoughts of you not realizing what it implied, were correct? ..Then it has been worth all the time and efforts necessary to finish!! ..RIP- Leon Russell, you were a very kind and gentle man, and to see your hands play the piano so eloquently, it is hard to imagine when hearing some give credit to your being so great due to your left handedness, due to you overcoming polio that had mostly affected your right side.. Wow at you having such a miraculous healing! Thank you for the beautiful words to so many songs- Keep on loving in a place where there is no space or time... singing this song for you, now:)

Saw Joe when I was about 19 - about 1972. In those days Joe would stagger all over the stage & bottles of booze were left around the stage for him. I went away for the weekend & when I got back it was to findJoe & the band had been kicked out of Australia for being lewd on stage with his signature way of dancing. To this day I’m a loyal fan of Joe & Leon. What a great era.

Agree with the sad state of rock and roll. I saw the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour in Detroit and they put on one of the best concerts I ever saw/heard. Before the Mad Dogs tour I saw Joe Cocker and the Grease Band a couple times at the old Grande Ballroom. Now I am 73. In my opinion the golden years of rock and roll were "approximately" 1965 - 1975. There have been good groups since, but not many. In the mid 70s something weird happened. As Dennis Hopper once said, "while nobody was paying attention rock and roll became big business".

Actually, Peter Frampton released Frampton Comes Alive. It sold So Many records that the major corporations saw Gold mine. Same thing happened here in Nashville after Garth Brooks and Shania Twain sold Multi Platinum suddenly Sony ,Gulf and Western etc. came in and bought up most of the Publishing houses and now you have Bean Counters running the Music Business. They need to shut up and count their beans and leave the Music to the Musicians. Btw, I played The Letter in my H.S. band when the Boxtops had it on the radio. Never thought that Joe and Leon would do such a great version, or that I would move to Nashville and record the Writer Wayne Carson's version many years later. It's on Wayne Carson:Writer album. Wayne also wrote Always On My Mind, Horse Called Music, Soul Deep and many more. We used the cream of the Nashville Studio Musician crop.

I did see Mad Dogs the movie at the drive-in in 1971 when I was 10 years old, Mom was a big Cocker fan.

@@robertzemko6590 I saw The Who and The Doors and Jimi Hendrix and others like Mountain, MC5 etc. I don't believe they were all at the Grande. When the Grande closed, another old theatre opened called the Eastown. After that, it was a place called Harpo's. It's hard to remember. 😂 One of the best shows I do remember was the original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. They played at a place called Siver Bell near Pontiac Michigan I think. The place was very small like a high school gym. It was quite amazing.

Я из России. Сейчас нет больше свободы ни где. А Вудсток фестиваль хиппи, это была последняя свобода. У нас всё украли.

A lot of the vibe carries on on an album named "Bonnie & Delaney and Friends On Tour", and then on to Derek and the Dominos...
      Them was the days..

Last but not least, I must admit that I was so glued on the video that I did not check your great attention in providing thorough details in the very interesting history behind the video. That must have taken time and effort to compile thus increasing the value of the video for us. Well done !!!

A note for the younger generation, this is the music your grandparents listened to. A era that will not be again with big companies controlling music now.
We were fortunate to see a Joe Cocker concert 4 times. What an experience every time. RIP Joe. Thanks for the memories.

One of my all time favorites. I was 12 when it came out and my mom added it to her collection. So many memories come flooding back to me whenever I hear this or any song from this album. It never gets old...
