    How many realize , Leon Russell put this whole thing together, the arrangement, production, picked the musicians, backup singers, he ran the whole thing. True musical Genius.

      I DO! He was a genius! I love his subtle cues to the band. Can't believe all this great music is gone. At least there are clips to see how great and fun it was!

      Now don't get mad,but he may have been a little stoned while doing it,which makes it even more impressive.I read somewhere that as a teenager,he won a high profile classical piano competition,the Van Cliburn .

      From my hometown and my high school . Leon was brilliant. I saw him live about 2 weeks before he passed. A magnificent show from magnificent performer.

      You can certainly argue it was the best music, but not the best musicians. From popular jazz of the 1920s and onwards, the world has produced many magnificent musicians, it was not just those from the 60s and 70s.

      Couldn’t agree more. He was involved in every aspect of making a song just absolutely lived in the studio. Shootout on the plantation and song for you are 2 all time favorites. I worked with one of his good friends 20 years ago when I left college. He told me Leon found someone selling a roller coaster and bought it but never had it assembled and it just laid in the backyard and they’d party and hangout in the unassembled roller coaster🙌.

    Leon Russell looked so calm and collected - while Joe was so energetic and into the moment! Back when we all were so young. I was 27, looking forward to the future, and these days, I keep looking back at the past!

    If a young person asks me, an old person, what music was like in my day I will just show them this. The 60's/70's music summed up in one brilliantly performed great song by a great singer accompanied by amazing musicians and vocal backing. Joe was mesmerising, visually and vocally, and unfortunately I didn't get to see him live.

    The amount of musical talent on that stage, even in that era, is amazing. The Master of Time and Space brought everyone together in the right place at the right time. This is the reason they call it classic rock. Like classical music, it stands the test of time. ☮💟

    I used to own a gorgeous oak upright player piano that belonged to Leon, have photos. Ran into him unexpectedly at age 19 in TTown. He was alone playing piano and singing, had no idea who this gorgeous blue eyed soul man was but he captured me, like an ethereal light was emitting from him, was probably 30ft away and couldn’t take my eyes off him. A moment in time I’ll cherish😅

      I had a thing for Leon when I was young. He was gorgeous. I am wondering if that is the same piano that is in a photo of him, taken at his home in Hollywood, in probably 1970. It's a really cool photo of him. Where was he playing and singing by himself? I take it, you don't mean a concert. Lucky you. I did see the Mad Dogs tour, 1st show and 1st time to see him and then 3 other times in the 70's.

      If you can Watch the TAMI show doc ('64), he's in the backing band with some of the performers. He had a dark crewcut and glasses! MANY great acts and many, other great performers.

    Man it feels SOOOO GOOD to hear this. I am blessed that I was born in 1956 and Rock n Roll was also in its infant years. My parents always had the radio on. Joe Cocker the King of covers definitely made the song his own. ROCK N ROLL.....ROCK N ROLL ✌❤😁🎭

    I saw Mr. Cocker twice. 1974ish and 2003. Both times I was very close. He hypnotized us. Before I knew it the concert was over.

    My parents both knew Joe personally. He came from Sheffield. Joe dated my aunt in the early years. My parents have since passed. They sure loved him. He was like family to them. RIP

    LR came through my hometown after doing a concert and ate at this restaurant we high school kids frequented... he had an old Cadillac and was pulling a trailer.... magic on the keys! I saw him...

    This was awesome. I can see that Joe Cocker felt every beat of that song. I'm just learning about him and Leon Russell. I was born about 10 years too late.🙏🎼🎵🎹🎸✌️❤️.Thx TH-cam. I'm now learning what I missed. The 70's was my teen yrs

    I was blessed to see Joe Cocker twice. 1974 and 2003. Both were in a small venue and I sat about 30 feet away. RIP, Mr. Cocker.

    My buddy and I called him the Spaz, but lovingly. We saw him with Leon Russell at the Fillmore West before we knew who Leon was. Great times. Graduated high school in 1966 and lived the high life until 1978 when I cut my hair and went all 9 to 5, wife, kids, house in the burbs.

    I saw him for the Benefit for Ronny Layne show in the early 80's. Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page were there but in my opinion Joe was the best thing on stage that night.

    Jim Keltner (most famously the drummer for The Traveling but his resume is ridiculous) and Jim Gordon (soon to be in the short lived Derek and the Dominos) with Carl Radle on bass.
    What a rhythm section!
