This CD was released in 1997, the Armageddon OVA in 1998 and the tankoubon that had the manga version came out in 2002, so unless that specific chapter of the manga came out waaay earlier in magazine-format (which it might, the Shin Getter manga that this was bundled with started serialization in 1996), you're right!
Very interesting that The Dogura and Jaki-Oh made it into this audio drama. The fact that Neon appears this late I the story makes me think this is supposed to be a continuation of the 70s continuity of Getter. If you haven't, give BELIEVE IN GETTER's channel a look, he had very in depth videos on the two Kyomu Senki manga mentioned here. It's a good watch since Happyscans hasn't updated KS in a while.
I agree, that and the brief mention of Shin Getter along with Monji getting a big role make it feel like the start of a third season of 70s Getter. I most certainly will check them out, thanks!
@@riverpudding You're very welcome! He is a huge Ken Ishikawa fan and has videos on some of his other manga; recently he did a video on the Fatal Fury and Samurai Spirits adaptations.
Dogura first appeared in Ishikawa Ken's 1985 short manga "The Strange Living Dimension Dogura." Subsequently, Dogura has made appearances in other manga such as "Makai Tenshō" and "Kyomu Senki." In these manga, Dogura is depicted as a space weapon in the cosmic wars. The prototype of the invaders on Getter Robo Armageddon is also Dogura.
Very true! I wasn't able find the raw manga short but after some digging I was at least able to find a photograph of one of the pages that showed the Dogura. If I hadn't been able to do that, I would have used one of OVA invaders as a base for the cutin instead.
I feel that the storyline of 'Kyomu Senki' is no less captivating than 'Getter Robo Saga.'Unfortunately, you don't understand Chinese. There is a complete Chinese translation of 'Kyomu Senki' on some websites in China.😥@@riverpudding
I had no idea that there was a sequel of the 70s Getter Robo anime that used some plotlines from the manga! And now I wish that the Getter Spark was an actual attack that the Getter-1 could use in Super Robot Wars!
@@riverpudding I would have liked to see more of this Drama CD which shows versions of the plot from the Getter Robo manga that has the more optimistic and lighthearted tone of the 70s anime version. Does any SRW technically adapt this Drama CD? I THINK that SRW Impact adapts the Getter VS Getter G fight. But I do not know if it takes any inspiration from this Drama CD.
@@kuraux56s59 Yeah, but this drama already shifted a bit more towards the grim insanity of the manga. Honestly I think that the next CD would have taken the anime even further down that path, given the nature of Shin Getter. Great work on making it match SRW in terms of presentation & style. Was wondering if you'd do other Audio Dramas , like Mazinkaiser Den down the line in the same vain as well ?
Thanks! That would really cool if we had that. At least we have it as a manga one-shot (and just saying but there is a Mazinkaiser drama that's I'm planning on releasing some time this year!).
Honestly I'm not sure, but from what I can tell there were CDs labelled Super Robot Museum Karaoke Edition (these included CDs for Mazinger Z and Gaiking) and only one Super Robot Museum Drama Edition, which was this one. My guess is that, if they were marketing it under uniform labels like that, they were trying to get something big off the ground with rereleases of old soundtracks and dramas based on classic mech anime. If that's true then it's a shame they didn't go through with it because this one was pretty rad.
Quick disclaimer, I did not make this drama using AI or whatever, it was originally released on CD in 1997 using all the same actors as from the show. I only translated it and made the visuals for it, which I based off of the 1998 OVA and the manga. That having been said! Btw I'm calling dibs on naming the final attack:
Getter Spark. It's not quite Getter Shine or Shine Spark and it's even in the opening song's lyrics.
Excellent work! Thank you so much for doing this.
