    Sir, you are a legend. Im an amateur with cars, I have 3 to put together and I don't want to learn from anyone else.

    Wally I have seen other videos where they just drill them after paint and leave that little edge bare. Those kinds of things keep me awake at night. LOL

      Thank you Dave, I decided to put in the gasket, Now since I have it on the inside track it does not show and after tightening it down the gap has closed nicely. Sure some wax will get in there but I like the look. Just assembling the rear now and should have update tomorrow.

      @@68mustangrestoration34 I always like to see how it is going. People don't put this kind of stuff on TH-cam generally. It is good to hear about the nit picky details and issues you run into. I would have never thought about the holes getting smaller with paint.

    The letters look very nice! The car is coming along well.
    I was coming to vote yes for the gaskets. The visual difference is minimal but I do believe I prefer it, also some other benefits as mentioned from earlier comments.
    Keep up the good work

    I used the rubber gasket on the rear extensions and would recommend using

    I don't know what my opinion is with the joint gasket. It looks fine with the black gap and with out. I would have to see it in person but something that comes to mind if you wax it will that black gather white and possibly be a pain.

    Use the rubber gasket, looks better and it serves a purpose.

    Barry had the same problems with the holes and paint. I don’t know why they can’t make reproduction parts correct! 😡 I’m not a ford guy but I would say that is the correct way to put rubber gaskets. Great job!

      Thank you, and I Agree, I still maintain durability and longevity were not considered when building these cars. They expected them to be disposable and rust was the norm.

    Thank you everyone, I have decided to install the gaskets on the extensions and today I installed the tail and backup lights along with the valance, hopefully I get the gas cap and lock installed and will post update on everything I found which again proves you cannot ASSUME anything .

    Use the rubber gasket on the extensions, believe me the rubber will compress down to have your gap where you wanted as to tighten, but the other reason is the car is always flexing either through movement of the car while driving or temperature flex to to different materials. The rubber will stop rubbing the paint off and creating a rust starting point.

      great point, do not want the paint to chip and especially expose metal. thank you

      @@donsmanufactory Thank you . I thought the rubber was on the outside as the original pieces did have an edge on them . I do like this way and it does keep them from rubbing. Done

    What are the measurements used for spacing out for letters?

    • @68mustangrestoration34
      @68mustangrestoration34  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question. It is late but will get the measurements for you tomorrow. I have the original trunk lid so will post the numbers for you.

    • @68mustangrestoration34
      @68mustangrestoration34  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the delay had to dig the original lid out of my storage shed. The letters are 4.5 (four and one half inches) apart. As I state in my video, use painters tape on the edge, measure the width of the lid and mark center . That is where the "T" goes. then from the center mark 4 1/2 inches left and mark that and then another 4.5 inches and so on. you will now have 3 marks to the left and 3 marks to the right of the center mark (7 marks in total) good luck, hope this helped
