This video kind of ignores the two major points of contention. No one will disagree that they have better sound, trackpad, good screens and whatnot.
If all you do is spreadsheets, word or email, get a Mac. My personal laptop is a MacBook Air and it’s awesome.
But my work requires me to have a computer that can run several VMs at the same time while still being able to use it. A MacBook that can do this will cost me anywhere from 3000 to 4000€. I need diskspace and ram, and it’s not like I can open them and add it.
Also, running games. The cheapest MacBook with a usable dedicated graphics card will cost you 2500€ at a minimum. Windows laptops with similar gaming performance will be less than half as much.
Also, Microsoft Windows laptops have had the possibility of supporting hardware encryption for several years. It was curiously also called t2 and you could buy a laptop with it, if you wanted.
Again, I use a Mac. My company actually provides me with a top of the line Mac to work on. But the criticism about the price is not for the lower tier model and not for typing emails. If you plan to do anything else that actually requires horsepower, the price increase is exponential

But in general I don't think you need more then one, usually you can do whatever you want with only macOS (as Unix like) and Microsoft Windows.

Also, I need those VMs / docker containers because when I develop an app, there are several dependencies that need to be running. Database, redis, other applications, mocks, etc. It's common.

You forgot something really important... when you get a new Mac, you only get the operating system and full versions of usable software programs built in or available for download. But you NEVER get shareware, advertisements, bloatware, or teaser software to clog up your hard drive and slow your system down. Another plus is if you install software on your own but decide you want to remove it, Apples operating system doesn’t make you jump though hoops to uninstall it and it doesn’t destroy files or leave unwanted files behind. It simply removes the entire app just by dragging it to the trash. There is an old saying...”You get what you pay for.” I am a tech. I used to be strictly Windows. I was a Windows user since 1992. I honestly thought Macs were a kids computer. Something a student could use but not for real computing. You couldn’t give me an Apple product. In 2008 I bought myself an iPod and was blown away by the build quality, look, feel and for the most part, the sound. It was as the until I learned what made an iPod sound great did I fully appreciate it. In 2009 I bought my first iPhone. I switched from a Palm Treo. That iPhone 3GS was nothing less than amazing. In 2010 I bought myself a MacBook Pro after my Gateway laptop bit the dust. After all, I didn’t really need a real laptop. I had a monster desktop PC that I built that could kick some serious ass. I used the MacBook Pro for less than a month and realized that the Mac was a real computer and my PCs were the toys. Adios, Windows. Hello Apple. In 2013 I was so impressed by Apple that I got out of the PC repair business and went to work for Apple as a Genius in one of their stores. Another thing that is worth mentioning is all of Apple’s MacBooks have anodized finishes. This is a special treatment that gives the MacBook it’s color and this treatment makes the color last longer and keeps the color from wearing off despite scratches dents, etc. Unfortunately high end Windows laptops don’t do this. Razor, Dell, and other companies just use the stand spray paint finish with a protective clear coat in the factory. This works for a few years, but over time the color fades and scratches and dents will revels the metal/plastic’s true colors.

You now need extra adapters to connect your existing peripherals (like USB3 external disks/flash drives). Apple removed the extra ports and just transferred the cost of these to the consumer, adding an extra $100 to the MacBookPro price as you now have to also pay for an extra multi-adapter.
There are also hardware problems: Apple recalls MacBookPros from 2015 due to battery issues, problems with keyboard, problems with the touch-bar, ...

Win10 upgrade was free for Win8.1 and Win7 users. Furthermore, Win10 is technically free, you can just download it from MS site without a license and it would run with no problems. It simply locks down some minor settings. Office365 online version is also free. In my opinion, Apples suite that comes free with MacOS is not really comparable with Office (or other similar free and open source alternatives) for any kind of non-casual work.

But the iMacs are too limiting. No good for games or flight sim. Don’t allow even simple user upgrades, after 7 to ten years they have to be discarded .... not even the monitor can be salvaged. This adds a lot to the real cost of ownership.
Feel my pain .... my iMac has just died after ten years service. A new one has a puny 8GB of RAM and no SSD so it needs to be upgraded before it is even ordered. Come on Apple, get with the times.
USD$2,000 for iMac compared to $1,700 for a more powerful Windows machine ..... excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse, trackpad, OS, productivity software, free OS upgrades. Wait! Customer service? Dunno but I heard Acer's sucks.
Trackpad is plastic, small but nice and responsive. I love how i can customize taps, swipes.
Speakers are probably the same as Dell XPS in this video.
Additional thoughts: I love how my laptop has sooo many different types of ports that are useful to me (i dont use USB-C). It has an Nvidia Graphics card which makes gaming on the go nice. I like the keyboard b/c it includes a numberpad. Acer laptops have crappy monitor quality though...

That's a big reason they are so expensive. I’ve been using Apple since the late 80’s, and that’s what I bought when I went to college...a Quadra 700. Anyway, through work and research etc I’ve used both platforms extensively and have to agree the useful life of a Mac has been a lot longer than PC’s I’ve used. For the most part they just work, and like any company apple has had some lemons too, but with AppleCare you pretty much know you’re going to have a functional machine for at least 3 years no matter what goes wrong. So I just picked up an 8-core MBP and had the option to return once all those rumors of the 16” etc came out, but decided to keep what I had because being rumors and such I wasn’t willing to give up 2-3 months of productivity and chase the “update” dragon... If the update is really compelling I’ll just sell this machine at a reasonable loss and get the new one. But for me being a video editor, going from the 2018 i9 6-core w/ 560X graphics to the 2019 8-core w/ Vega 20 graphics was a very compelling upgrade.

    i own XPS 15, when i originally got this i paid $1800 on a brief sale. XPS 15 9575.
XPS has the worst speakers of all laptops probably... so speaker test was unfair, basically picking worst vs the benchmark. several other laptops even thin and light have tuned audio by Harman Kardon, Bang and Olufsen, and other tuning groups which do sound much much better than XPS 13/15 and probably only slightly less quality than macbook pro. but if XPS is your benchmark to compare whatever.. ya i agree, audio effing sucks on it. as for mic and camera quality, sorta pointless...? sure nice to have better one but i dont think many people are using mac's or PCs for face to face anymore and that's all moved to cell phones now.
as for trackpad, Apple wins here as well. however XPS 13/13 for a while now been using smooth glass trackpads with precision drivers which are comparable to mac's multitouch ability on trackpads i almost 1:1 with a few quirks.. and texture wise personal preference if apple's textured glass or dell's smooth glass is better, i like smooth glass on XPS but thats personal preference i can understand both not a reason i would get or praise apple, just preference.. Mac has better error correcting for touch input and knows better when to ignore erroneous inputs. and they haptic system is nice, and decently convincing but once you know and your playing with it the game is up..
as for T2, sorry that can go kill itself, T2 is cancer to the industry cuz apple is using that to lock people down preventing easy fixes and forcing people into expensive repairs or replacements instead. you can do end to end encryption without the T2 anyway. also i dont think any software is using it for encoding/decoding.. given intel HD graphics and AMD Radeon graphics and i haven't seen any application professionally use it when i tired. this should be a big negative point..
as for displays, used to be a valid point years ago, but not really anymore especially since apple just uses off the shelf displays with a color profile now a days and most suppliers supply other OEMs too. my XPS 15 supports DCI-P3, 4K and touch input, and 500 nits of brightness, matching or beating macbook pro (my GF's 2018 macbook pro touchbar for example it matches that display in brightness and is similar in accuracy actually are both bit off in different points of spectrum)
machine out of a single block is more expensive however aluminium is so soft and once you CNC it for mass production its all done without any humans intervention, just spun up and sent through. so not that much more expensive, m0st expensive part will be use of the machine for only this production, but if you own the facility doing that work then doesn't matter... sure maybe strong as well however other better materials than Aluminium that can be used and are used, carbon fiber, titanium, magnesium, other things as well, XPS 13/15 use Carbon fiber and Aluminium and offer much of the same rigidity + most XPS models as well as other high end laptops like LG gram also have a MIL spec rating. my XPS 15 (9575) can survive 160G shock force turned off and 110G shock force turned on.. can survive huge vibrations as well, full RSM value sweeps of i forget the range used, which is intense.
as for storage, not a valid reason for its pricing infact apple soldering SSD in means product has a reduced life span now with limited reusability... they buying off the shelf flash memory from same people everyone else has to, speeds are all about the same for most part.. and unlike Mac, i can upgrade my SSD within life of my ownership easily! $200 i can get a 1TB NVMe samsung drive (or $120 for 1TB if i dont mind slightly slower options (2,000MB/Sec vs 2,600MB/sec) .. 2TB is stupidly priced, more then buying 1x 1TB sticks. currently but thats soon to drop thats to new changes and ever dropping price of flash storage again..
thunderbolt 3 argument is kinda pointless too, i have 2 full speed TB3 ports and i haven't really needed more... plus my other USB ports carry full DP signal over as well so not like im missing out on high res and high fps output either. like over 4K at 60fps or 4K at up to 120fps. all the other USB ports are fast enough @ 10+Gb/Sec to handle other tasks..but i actually rather have USB A anyway so i use a hub from one of my ports to 4 way USB A.. and i struggle to saturate that unless im going for raid 0 SSD array over each port.
touch bar sucks vs touch screen..period.. thats big reason i picked this XPS 15.. my GF has touch bar model, and neither of us thing touchbar is better than touch screen.
i have facial recognition (3D facial scanning + fingerprint reader) as do most laptops now a days come with at least 1 function or both.. so again invalid point, touch ID is pointless point to mak..
software engineering is really a valid reason to charge more.. ya tight integration helps make them optimize things really well that's valid point but that can be all done day 1 and cost no team any time or money after... most of the hardware will be same year after year so small tweaks and tuning thats really it..
dont even speak about second hand market LOL mac's are almost designed to fail, in fact im sure they are, my GF's macbook pro has failing screen, beginning to spotlight while opening it., key KB has 3 broken keys they dont work or double press..
i tested adobe premiere out on my XPS 15 9575 with its 16GB of ram, 4K display, Vega M GL graphics (4GB), and intel HD 630 vs my GF's Macbook pro with quad core i7, 16GB of ram, and Radeon RX560 pro (4GB) and intel HD graphics. and result for same video export was almost identical, on first pass mac one by couple seconds, on second run my xps 15 was far ahead..on 3rd test fairly equal again, similar video, i used 4K 100mbps HEVC video..

Most of the stuff doesn't matter to a lot of people that use a laptop. I use a Zephyrus laptop, it's small enough with enough hardware to run most of the apps. Windows is very familiar to me and most of the people in the world that has ever used a computer in public places like a library, school, university. Mac OS is almost alien to so many people. I tried using it, not a great experience to learn how it works. The file manager is a major drawback for me along with the native photo viewer.
And if I had to buy a Mac book with the similar spec of a windows laptop I would have spent 3 times more money. I bought Zephyrus GU502 with 1 TB optane SSD, i7 9750H, RTX 2060 with a 1080p 144hz screen (100% sRGB), 16 GB RAM @2660Mhz. I would have to spend $3099 (vs $1850) on a mac to get something close to it. Some of the differences in the configuration would be a thinner laptop, better screen, slower RAM, slower GPU, slower screen 60hz vs 144hz and probably the least reliable keyboard. My speakers are good, I don't know how good are the speakers on a MacBook, so I don't comment on that. One should not forget about the thermals in Macbook pro. They run fans at slower speeds and let the CPU to throttle.
Unless you are looking for a specific work, a PC will always be (much much) cheaper and probably more reliable.
PS: I am not an extensive gamer, I use my laptop for AutoCAD, productivity, Games and lite photoshop in that order. Mac will never give me good value. And I am not the only one who thinks similarly.

Knowing that for your money you got it all, you did not mind the cost. Apple gave up ground in my opinion on its own, PC's are still PC's. Surface products in some cases have 2 generations ago processors, Large Bezels, not the latest screen tech and cost a fortune. They are quality made but offer more future leaning while still serving its customer base. USB C, touch screens, tablets that detach etc. Bottom line is Mac is still worth it but without their mojo much leas so. I hope they get it back so I can feel great again spending more for both the best and the latest!!

You might be right, although for that price I buy a PC, 8K screen monitor, home theater with 3d surround sound, a game console, a HBO full year subscription, a couch, 4 beer packs, chips and coke, 3 hookers and a chinchilla pet.
