      when i say raiser the bar, i mean n400 was the bike to even set the standard to begin with, so no its not a slow or a non-exceptional machine. The rs457 is just better (except for reliability obviously) and i vouch for that not even having driven one. The firing order of the engine alone speaks volumes in this comparison.

    I have so much fun on track with my current Ninja 400 (heavily modified). I would definitely consider replacing it with the 500 if I happen to bin the thing in a corner. I've tracked a few larger displacement bikes over the years, but the 400 is so light in the corners, larger motors are only beneficial on the straights. If the 500 has the same handling characteristics, its a winner. Aftermarket suspension only improves an already capable platform. I wonder if all my race bits from my 400 would fit on the 500?

    US bikes are rated 51hp, and likely will see bigger gains when modded than previous 'baby Ninjas'. This engine has been sandbagged more than other generations to comply with emissions and European LAMS (or whatchyamacallit) 'beginner' HP regs. Most new bikes have terribly restrictive exhausts and factory computer tunes that open the throttle a fraction of your actual throttle input. 100% throttle opening is often as low as 60%, so a substantial power increase is already built into the engine, even BEFORE tuning the poor air/fuel ratio, timing, etc! Interestingly, this bigger engine also gets better fuel mileage than the 400, which is often the case with torquier engines and slightly more relaxed gearing. I know MPG doesn't excite anyone but me, but that's a strong point of this class of bike, and I'm engineer-minded. The p3ck3r-measure "500" isn't the most exciting upgrade to Baby Ninja (I LIKE small sportbikes), but I think it represents a better value if you don't get stupid with options. 😉

    I have a 2019 N400 that I use for solo touring. Not enough changes here to compel an upgrade. But Kawi is definitely keeping the N500 competitive, especially the SE. I agree with the folks saying that it should be called a 450 instead of a 500.

      @@mannybrar7501 The N400 works great for solo long distance --I have earned an Iron Butt on it and make several week-long trips a year. I have some mods for travel: Scottoiler, heated grips, touring windshield, throttle boss, and waterproof luggage. I also have a slightly more cushioned seat. My previous bike was a 2007 Ninja 650R; the N400 is lighter and the only performance difference is that I occasionally have to drop a gear passing where the 650 could do a 6th gear roll-on.

      it depends on your riding ability and comfort. i started last summer on a 2023 ninja 400 and sold it in the fall, because i wanted more power. however, i’ll say that i rode that bike aggressively and really pushed it to its limit every time i took it out. i’m not recommending you or anyone ride like this, but if that’s the kind of rider you are, then maybe you’d consider the 500 for a bit more power. you’re not going to get significantly more power from that bike, but it would probably be noticeable if you’ve rode a 400. i would never recommend anyone start on a 600, because realistically, it’s too power for the streets and you probably won’t get the most out of a bike like that. so, either a 400 or 500 would be good to start out on. depending on your comfort and how much you’re willing to spend.

      KAWASAKI USA website. The numbers dont mean alot, as its torquier at lower RPMs and throughout the rev range- until it gets 'sandbagged' at higher RPMs. A tune and full exhaust should really wake this one up, due to the gubment shackles placed on the 451cc, 'er "500" engine!

    Skinny tyres that you can barely get other brands of tyre, if it's anything like the four hundered your right heel catches the exhaust with normal sized feet. The seat is uncomfortable, the ergonomics are cramped, and telescopic forks on a new bike.. Small fuel tank, and not good fuel economy for how small and light it is. All in all it's complete 💩 with a different face on it. Just get a Suzuki GSXS-8S, and reduce the power in it to suit your license and raise the power in it when you aquire a higher power licence.. Better brakes, suspension etc etc all round for road riding..

    When a kawasaki ninja 500 costs over $5k usd its a no brainer to buy something like a triumph street triple 765 base model at under $10k. Its not just on the spec sheet its a far superior bike, the motor is a peach, it s handling is amazing as are the fit, finish, power and brakes and itsva well proven engine used in different specs from tiger 800 to daytona 675 to speed triple 675, 765 and moto 2 daytona engine producing reliably around 140bhp.Alan Sanders took a tiger 800 round the world putting on over 50K miles on the clock and in the real world we all want a good machine and when its a model up there with the best triple engines out there but far cheaper than MV agusta and outhandling yamaha MT09 thats saying something. I had an old 900 daytona and it was so torquey for its time and economical and reliable too and keep the revs under 5000 and fuel economy was really good at around 50mpg. Ive had vfr hondas and 600 fazer yammies but they seemed soul less next to the triumph but the yamaha was so reliable, easy to work on unlike honda with regulator rectifiers giving big problems 3 packed up by 20000 miles until i put in a mosfet unit made by electrex which is brilliant and worth the extra. Trouble is that you cant tell which bike will be reliable when youre working nights and doing london to near Brighton and back every night in winter. That proved to me the fazer was great and i did nearly 40K miles on it and it never missed a beat or gave electrical problems and only a suzuki v strom or triumph grophy or tiger would tempt me for 100+ mile per day work commute on motorway and dual carriageway riding.

    • @Ian-bq7gp
      @Ian-bq7gp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For sure the kawasaki would be good basic transport and i rode a 300cc twin to work that gave great mpg and was faster than it shouldve been. Im an ex despatch rider so i look at bikes from a different perspective to people who ride weekends in the dry. Id say japanese inline fours take some beating especially the old honda cb, kawasaki z and especially suzuki GS850g, 550 and 750 although the gs1000 was a great bike, in town mine did under 30mpg but you knew those lumps were good for 50000 miles before touching it and all mine did over 50K miles and 2 of them did 100K miles and were easy to work on. Fantastic everyday bikes. The more basic they are the best they are in my book as no electrical gremlins like some more modern bikes. Thats one reason why id stay clear of most italian and ktm. AJP however out of Portugal seem to be a great, practical bike with a smart policy of giving sizes of things like o rings and seals and bearings so you just can fit japanese NTN, kyoto bearings with the number given so you know the diameter id and od, thickness and spec. Great idea well done to AJP

    it doessnt feel like an improvement on the 400 platform at all I actually hate the bike and the all digital dash etc.... this is just kawasaki being kawasaki keeping busy unlike suzuki but you know I dont think its a real gift to the market or anything
    but if you compare it to the ninja 300 you can see the raw engineering improvements
    Ive got a 300 I just couldnt imagine ever needing using or wanting a "ninja 500"

    • @keithjones9773
      @keithjones9773 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @williamrobinson4265 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @keithjones9773 it's all interesting! But the math between the 300 and 500 is more exciting
      I think the 400 standalone has the most exciting math because it's the top of its class and even smaller performance adjustments equal a bigger % increase so I think it's a much more exciting platform
