    It is amazing how this game keeps getting glitched further into insanity.

      Haha, I hope you do revisit it. The game truly gets better and better the more you play through it and learn all the intricacies, even without using any glitches. Not saying glitches aren't fun, though. ;) Thanks so much for watching and commenting - I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. :)

    Super cool video! The fact that some PLMs can erase game files reminds me of the Castle Crush fatal glitch from DKC 2 where the save file can get corrupted. I wonder if it’s a similar thing happening here?

    • @GoldenChorizoCode
      @GoldenChorizoCode  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much, David! :) That's a great question... I don't know enough about the mechanism of save file deletion/corruption to answer it, but if anyone else knows, please chime in! :) The good news is, that only happened to me once, and it was when I was blindly activating X-ray just to see what could happen lol.

      Considering how these systems work, random memory writes can write to save data, because it's mapped to the address space the same way RAM is, rather than being a separate thing like on modern systems.

    Watching this video, I'm intrigued by the effect where rather than PLMs that trigger during g-mode being *cancelled*, they are *queued*. Since games of this era don't have dynamic memory allocation, this seems to suggest that the PLMs you trigger during this time are being queued into a fixed size buffer somewhere. This makes me wonder whether that buffer can be forced to overflow (if they didn't think to code in a limit-reached check), which could lead to memory corruption and potentially ACE. Is it known what the maximum number of PLMs the programmers anticipated having to be queued at once was? Is it known what happens if you go into g-mode and queue one more PLM than that?

    • @FrenchLightningJohn
      @FrenchLightningJohn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there is a limit of 50 PLMs queue iirc, you can achieve this in certain specific place without g-mode, in vanilla its the place called frog speedway (the speedbooster block between bubble mountain and the save station) if you have wave + spazer or plasma and shoot diagonally it will achieve the same thing as you are shooting what we call there trash block (and it only work with respawning blocks, non respawning blocks don't take up a slot), its only doable from right to left, so its only use is in dashless if you don't have a bluesuit or in rando, so the best way to use this is still with g-mode as the queue don't reset while in g-mode

    • @GoldenChorizoCode
      @GoldenChorizoCode  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, FrenchLightningJohn and Andi Mcc! :) Those were good observations and questions, Andi, and I'm thankful FrenchLightningJohn helped answer them. I had no clue what the PLM queue limit was... 😂 But I love that Frog Speedway glitch, and I never would've thought to mention it - great example! Here's a link to a video of the glitch, by Sniq: puu.sh/CvsCT/7757bb4f62.mp4. I accidentally softlocked myself in those Speed Booster blocks once while trying that lol.
      As FrenchLightningJohn's example highlights, filling the PLM queue can make certain blocks non-solid. If my understanding is correct, this is what makes the reverse Lower Norfair entry possible - when the queue is filled, the bomb blocks and crumble blocks that are in the way become non-solid, allowing you to pass right through.
      As per TASvideos: "[G-Mode] enables control over Samus, but leaves some properties of X-Ray active - for example, the game is unable to execute any PLMs, such as crumble blocks or screen scroll controllers (which is the reason the camera doesn't follow Samus during this mode), meaning activating too many PLMs will cause the queue to fill up and make most of them nonsolid. Thus, through G-Mode, Lower Norfair is easily accessible through what is normally its exit by jumping through the nonsolid pillars and crumble blocks."

  • @AmaroqStarwind

    I think calling it "Ghost Mode" would be a lot more accurate than "God Mode".
    In Unreal, if you entered "ghost" into the console, you'd enter "Ghost Mode", which was similar to "noclip" in other games except you couldn't pick things up and you couldn't interact with some things.

    • @GoldenChorizoCode
      @GoldenChorizoCode  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I actually love the name "Ghost Mode"! You could share that idea with the person who discovered and named "G-mode" (EternisedDragon) haha, because I have no authority to change the name. ;)

    • @FrenchLightningJohn
      @FrenchLightningJohn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      reason its called god mode and not ghost mode is you can't clip wherever you want only certain block that default to air block, and also the fact that in this mode you can do a lot of powerful thing, hence why god mode instead

    How does a person figure out this type of glitch without already being told about it by someone else? I remember it didn’t take long to figure out if you pressed “select” while shooting at a boss in Master Blaster the boss would still take damage while the game was paused then you pushed the same button again and the boss would be dead. That’s a glitch that required one button but these Metroid glitches sure do take a lot of steps to get right that nobody would ever think to do.

    What happens if you were to jump down into the main part of the room when you enter the spore spawn boss battle from the top?

    • @GoldenChorizoCode
      @GoldenChorizoCode  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, TheKleanupKrew! That's a great question. :) If you look closely at ~8:36 in my video, you'll see that prior to killing Spore Spawn, the part of the room you're referring to is actually "sealed off" at the top. Those blocks in the middle of the "ceiling" only disappear after Samus kills Spore Spawn. So, you're basically stuck in the top part of the room, unless you can find a way to kill Spore Spawn from up above.
