The frame of the hearse is probably rusted through from sitting so long, but the body sure looks complete and restorable. Thanks for taking me along and opening the casket too, not knowing IF there was anything in it would have driven me crazy!
That was not embalming fluid in that "Portaboy" aka embalming matching, it was water. Water is put in Portaboy machines to keep the seals from drying out and cracking. My brother is a mortician, that's how I know.
Wow, this is so true because when I was nine years old, my aunt opened my grandmother’s mouth while we were viewing her body at her service to check to see if her dentures were in. Her mouth fell open as those metal wires must have come loose that is a memory, I will never forget. My aunt who is Italian fainted, and I remember just looking at my grandmother, with her mouth wide open, it was not a pretty sight.

I was watching a video on alkaline hydrolysis (where you are basically placed in a pressure container and it is filled with hot water and lye and you are dissolved and flushed down the drain). I would go that way, but it is t offered in my state. One guy commented that it was gross, disgusting and disrespectful to the deceased because they are just flushing your remains down the sewer. I asked him if he knew what happened to our bodily fluids when you are embalmed. Yep, down the drain. Cremation? Yep, your ashes go out a chimney all over the neighborhood. How about your poop and pee? Same thing. Down the drain. AND they crematory furnaces are just swept out and boxed up. So, your grandmother's ashes are mixed in with who knows how many OTHER cremains. Think about it. They don't do a "deep vacuum" after every cremation. The reason I know this is a funeral director who was in the family business said it was his job when we was younger was to crawl inside to vacuum up as much "dust" as possible with a shop vac. He always was scared the doors would close while he was in there and start up and it gave him nightmares. So, think about that next time a family member dies and they are cremated. How many OTHER persons ashes are mixed in. I am sure your funeral director is going to hate me.

Funeral homes usually don't have fridges to store the bodies. Thats mostly in hospitals. I've explored a good 25 + funeral homes and not one of them had fridges for bodies.

Why are there so many abandoned funeral homes around the country? Why don’t they move out all the belongings and equipment? Doesn’t somebody have to pay property taxes? It doesn’t make sense to me.
Why can’t abandoned things like this be donated to families needing them, so expensive to bury a family member. Why not donate these to those people ya know? I know it belongs to whoever owns this property but if it’s now city owned or relinquished, why not donate it
