The "velvet" caskets are made of doeskin. I remember there were some flattop caskets that were inexpensive in the 1970s decade.

    Two things:
    1. The “second hearse” wasn’t a hearse. It was a limo for the families of the decease. In my small town, the hearse went first, followed by the limo.
    2. Please come up with another word for “grimy”. Maybe “weather-worn, dirty or soiled”?
I like your style, showing inside cupboards, drawers (the wayward casket or two). Very professional and respectful.

  • @TomokoAbe_

I do not understand why nobody sold the hearses--even for scrap metal. That's worth money. Those caskets are also worth a fortune. I know I have a casket in my house--I use it as a coffee table and it's beautiful. Great storage space too! Coffins are beautiful! I really love this video! Many funeral homes went out of business because most people are cremating now--cremation is a lot cheaper to dispose of a body.

Suck's the limo is such poor shape. It's very rare to have the funeral limo and hearse together. There's a good amount people who collect funeral vehicles. The trifecta is having the hearse, limo and flower car, which is pretty much a fancy el Camino for carrying you guessed it, flowers

The "casket" in the chapel (with the viewing window) is actually a coffin from the looks of it. Wide at the shoulders and narrows at the head and feet. Still used in the UK, Australia and such. The viewing window was common in the old days.

The $11,000 was a burial vault. It is the most expensive one they make. The fabric on the casket is a cloth unit. The fabric makes it look better and underneath is frequently fiber board. The no lined bottom of the wooden casket means it is a rental casket. The bottom of the interior slides out with the body on it and it is frequently cremated then.

They could have sold the hearses. It’s just wrong for the owners to walk away. Not do anything to help make a bad situation a bit better. We don’t use caskets over her in the UK just coffins. They still cost a huge amount of money. I have decided l want a cardboard coffin for my cremation. Who would believe that there is a status in what you are laid to rest in.

What a shame the photos were not taken by family. That family car would make nice transportation... they can't have many miles on them and garaged, sort of. Wonder why the family didn't auction the furniture and equipment? Sad, for sure, for the family's losses and the place getting run down.

Batesville Casket Co. Is located in Batesville, MS. It's been in business for years and years and makes all types of caskets and vaults. If you Google it you can find lots of information about the company.
