The plastic looking circular object was most likely for flowers for the funerals, the "stone like" object is for the flowers to be stuck in. Love your videos
I just know all that stuff was because I worked for a funeral home in the preparation room the long thing laying on the table is a chocar and used the way you said
OK sooo... routine embalming is a two stage process comprised of arterial and cavity embalming. During arterial fluid is injected into the body using the embalming machine. A metal injection tube is inserted into an artery (typically carotid) and attached to the embalming machine via tubing. At the same time, a metal drain tube is placed in a vein (typically jugular) to allow blood to flow out as fluid is pumped in. The embalming machine pumps fluid into the body, it does not suck. The force of the fluid being pushed in is what forces the blood out. The metal drain tube usually has a bit of tubing attached to direct the blood flow away from the body. There would also be fresh water running down the table at this point to keep everything moving to the sink drain. During cavity embalming, a trocar (the long instrument seen at 6:32) is attached via tube to the hydro aspirator (around 6:47 look in the upper right of the sink- you'll see a metal tube attached to a faucet - that's the hydro aspirator. It uses water to create suction.) The trocar is then inserted into the body two inches above the navel and two inches to the right. The trocar is used to pierce and aspirate fluid from the organs of the thoracic and abdominal cavities. (Think liposuction-type motions.) The trocar is then disconnected from the hydro aspirator and connected to a bottle of cavity fluid. (Cavity fluid is a MUCH stronger preservative than arterial embalming fluid and it's used "straight" (no water dilution). Using simple gravity injection, the trocar is then used to distribute the cavity fluid throughout the previously aspirated cavities. Caveat: I'm describing a simple/routine embalming of an unautopsied body with no additional complications. And don't forget all of the other work such as washing/disinfection, setting features, restoration (if req'd), cosmetics, hair styling, dressing/casketing, etc. Embalming is a process that is customized for each decedent to provide the best result. The answer to most questions about the embalming process is "well... it depends..." because every body is unique. Hope this helps clarify some of what you saw in the video. What a magnificent vintage prep room tho. Great video thank you for posting!

Does the blood with water go directly into the sewer system? If so how can biological matter be not contaminated. Some cities sewer plants supposedly clean sewage sludge, some put on the ground and some for cleaning water for reusing.
One thing you should consider in your walk-throughs is wearing latex gloves at a minimum and an N-95 mask, because you never know what you're inhaling, especially in some of the older and more advanced decayed locations.
I agree with Kim that you ought to contact someone so families can get their remains! I wasn’t going to watch this one because funeral homes make me very sad, but I decided to because I’m trying to become a stronger person❤
What happens to these funeral homes. Are they for sale? My Grandfather who has passed, was a Funeral Director 60 years ago. He had 3 funeral homes which were impeccably maintained. He was well respected for his professionalism, kindness and caring nature in all the communities he proudly served and throughout Kansas. Unfortunately, my Grandmother was forced to sell the funeral homes at his passing. Consequently, they all lost their market share he had built up during his professional career.
Former funeral director here... the lift we never used to transfer to the embalming table but to transfer into the casket since the decedent has to go over and down. In reference to the cremains you'd be surprised how many families don't want them, are contacted numerous times and don't pick them up. It's sad but very likely in a lot of these cases. Being so much later there may be other family members that want them now but legally after the next of kin is the only one that can claim them so other family members probably assume they did. I'm not sure what if any legalities would have to be considered now.
My aunt’s body got caught up in a family feud between brothers. She ended up in limbo at a funeral home, embalmed but no one to pay for it or remaining funeral costs. It broke my heart. So I offered to have her cremated and pay for it as well as the cost of the embalming. Along the way I became next of kin. I picked her up and delivered her to the cemetery. That part had been prepaid. One brother ended up reimbursing me. Sad, sad story. I still think of my last ride with my aunt. She was such a giving, kind person.
Two Years Ago, I lost my Male Best Friend to cancer ( He had at least 3 different kinds) He was cremated, His remains was put into a Medically Sealed urn, and put into a Locked up room, The person He appointed as His executer didn't have the money to pick up His remains, Here in The Keystone State after two Years the Funeral Home will scatter the remains around an Oak Tree, or some place serene, I have never known a Funeral Home to keep the remains and especially not locked up in a room in something. I know this for a Fact.
The instrument on that embalming table is not a scissor but an artery clamp. The drain cavity of the sink may have an aspirator to aspirate blood and body fluids. The long instruments are trocars. Dodge makes a wide variety of embalming fluids and its pumps, as did Professional made its pumps with the white bodies. The royal blue "blanket" you called is a cot cover.
Metaflow and the other one is Plastapeck which is both used in arterial embalming. The solvent is to wash out a needle that was used with tissue builder. Like if someone had been sick for a long time you could inject it and like make the face look better.
The spear thing on the table is a trocar. It’s hooked up to the tubing of the embalming machine. It pierces organs and removes waste by suctioning, and can distributes fluids also.
As I've said on other funeral videos why in the world would anyone subject their lived ones to being pumped full of chemicals and all the things embalmers do to preserve a body....the funeral industry is such a rip off its not funny. People are apparently convinced that this is the way to treat their loved ones. It truly is a tragedy
This is a unfortunate way of life and death. Family's have people creamtated and never come back to claim the ashes. There have been a couple of funeral home that have ashes of people from the 1950s it is not the funeral homes fault. And they themselves can not get rid of the ashes themselves that is left in the family's hands. It is a catch in the law. So the funeral home has to hold on to them. There was a funeral home on youtube that. Had the ashes of over 200 people family's do not come back for the ashes so it leaves the funeral home between a rock and a hard place. They need laws to address this issue
The metal item with a lid is filled with sterilizing solution & once you finish using any tools, they’re put in there until cleaned. That heavy iron is a real iron from long ago. Heated on the stove, used to iron. I use one as a door stop now! The (dog tags) key rings hold small amounts of ashes. If you turn that ring knob, it opens. This is when the family wants to each have a bit of the ashes.
You totally missed the white bassinet up on the shelf that they would use to transport babies instead of using a large gurney or to put them in for a wake instead of a casket. A special touch most funeral home will do. Also, sometimes the decedent was a awful person (like a pedo)and the family doesn't want their ashes so they don't pick them up.
This was very interesting, thanks for the video =). I think that you should contact the police for the remaining family members to have the remains to properly bury them, as other viewers have said, I agree!
Although obviously a very old building and business I feel like its not that long ago that it was still operational as an active funeral home? Kinda odd Rick with the descriptions of "sucking your guts out" .... "that is disgusting" etc. Goodness help the viewer that right at this moment has a loved one being prepped for a funeral? Upon reflection do you think maybe you could have done a bit better on the descriptives?
Even if you want to be buried you do not have to be embalmed. It's a money making exercise for them. In Holland it is banned for burials as they do not want the fluid leaking out from corpses going into the ground.
Also the tool on the embalming table does not hook up to the embalm machine the tool in called a trocar used to remove and blood or other liquid in the body cavity
The families probably couldn’t afford to pay for it. That’s why they’re still left there. If they could ever afford it, they would’ve already picked up the remains.
what do ya say to the cops? Uh I broke into a building and was snooping around illegally but I want to report some dead folk's ash's that were left behind Probably because they didn't pay the funeral costs.. let me know how that turns out..
As a funeral director a lot of family or loved ones do not return for the cremated remains of the deceased and the funeral home is required by law to retain them.
Was that the couple that owned the funeral home getting arrested ? That newspaper looked like the couple and that would explain the ashes left behind , I bet that funeral home was shut down by the police
The packs of stuff in the closet is the Cards that has the Name of the deceased, a poem/Bible scripture, Birth date, date of death, the name of the Funeral Home, date and time of Service and where the interment is going to be, they're placed right next to the Guest Book and the Family and Friends can take one before or after signing the Guest Book, I'm in my early 50's, I've been to enough Funeral Homes and funerals to know that for a Fact.
I wish you were more mature and did your research before showing this episode, no way would " guts " be able to go through those hoses. With such an important subject as this being the first black owned and run funeral home and the way its been kept in such great shape one would think you would be more serious. I hope I can find another video about this because watching you act like a child with your sound effects and unfunny comments I just hear disrespect and ignorance. Maybe you can watch this video and see where you could improve on your commentary, also Sir, doing a video on this very important subject and not being a person of color you dont really know the importance of this part of my and others history. You might want to post other subject to talk about, maybe ufos.

I enjoyed your video. My only suggestion is when you come to funeral homes. A lot of the information you are giving pertaining to equipment in the preparation room is incorrect. A lot of the things you are saying are incorrect and I would suggest that. You know you get information from an actual funeral service professional? You are THE last person to invade a funeral home without knowing the industry. Sorry.? I could educate you so much more on the equipment you are reviewing. I don't have that time.
SIR YOU NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TALK ABOUT THESE PLACES THEY DID NOT SUCK YOUR GUTS OUT. YOUR ORGANS ARE TAKEN OUT BY CUTTING . PUT INTO A PLASTIC BAG AND PUT INTO YOUR CHEST CAVITY BEFORE THEY EVEN GET TO THE FUNERAL HOME. SO YOU REALLY NEED TO DO YOUR HOME WORK BEFORE YOU START LEADING PEOPLE ON WITH THINGS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT. THE BLOOD IS DRAINED OUT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE FUNERAL HOME USUALLY. THE MACHINE IS TO PUMP THE EMBALMING FLUID INTO THE BODY. IF YOU TALK TO A REAL FUNERAL HOME THAT IS RUNNING YOU WILL DISCOVER THERE ARE MANY MANY MANY REMAINS THAT THE FAMILY NEVER PICK UP. PEOPLE JUST DON'T BOTHER PICKING THEM UP WHEN THEY WHERE TOLD THEY WOULD BE READY ON A CERTAIN DATE.
The organs are only removed if an autopsy is done at the morgue prior to being transferred to the funeral home. They are placed in the abdominal cavity. The blood is not drained during autopsy and therefore needs to be done as part of the embalming process.
Stop touching stuff in all your videos. It's unsafe and disrespectful. You should be wearing PPE whenever you are exploring these abandoned places . ewe! Where are you planning to wash your hands? there is no water. By the time you do you have probably already caught something!
I know some of that stuff needs to be in a museum especially all the tools to let people know the history of it all. So yes I would make an effort to contact the popo about the ashes you just never know. Have a great day

The organs are only removed if an autopsy is done at the morgue prior to being transferred to the funeral home. They are placed in the abdominal cavity. The blood is not drained during autopsy and therefore needs to be done as part of the embalming process.
Chill out
I agree, he has no idea what hes talking about, sounded like a fool.
Have a great day
Thank you.
