Abandoned Funeral Home - Found Caskets and Hearse

  • On this explore, Fran and I are driving far away from home to visit our very first abandoned funeral home. Our friend told us if we were ever in this area to stop by & we are sure glad we did. Though very much decayed, this funeral home is still full of many forgotten surprises. The garages have old caskets stacked up and also a vintage hearse. There are more caskets inside and a rotting embalming room (unfortunately no embalming medical table). It was such a creepy explore but so worth the trip!

@@abandonedcentral After watching an episode on old abandoned funeral homes, it gave me an idea. One can make a difference by helping people out who can not afford to buy new caskets. Instead of letting the caskets rot away, why not try to refurbish the salvageable coffins. The other deteriorated coffins can be used as spare parts for the other ones. Of course the Socialist that I am I would give them for free or if need be charge a very small price for them.

@@ronshaw80 I had a monument fixed with a spelling mistake, they spelled "daughter" wrong, as in "duaghter" if you can imagine...
(6 generations of my dead relatives heard some real bad language when I discovered it...)
required a visit to the cemetery, they polished it down and engraved it again...$300 charged to the funeral home.....a lot cheaper than a new granite stone...you cannot tell they made a mistake...
In the video they probably just figured they could soak the V.A. for a new one...
Same cemetery, lady born in 1899, they had the first 2 numbers "19", of the year of death engraved at the shop when she bought the stone after her husband died (its a little cheaper).
She lived into 2000 so they had to fix that one too... cost a few bucks but it was no longer her problem at that point...
And those basic caskets in the video made out of "good one side" plywood likely retailed for $995.00.

Most of the older funeral homes had bedrooms they were used as guest rooms they will use to put children to take a nap or if someone's not feeling good they can go to one of the guest rooms and rest they would even but people stay there overnight if they could not for the hotel and yes some of them were also used for residence use as well

Definitely would be careful around the embalming fluid. If it happened to leak you would be exposed to a known, very pronounced, carcinogen. It’s just all around very toxic, which is why morticians wear basically hazmat suits when using it.

After you work in a mortuary for awhile, and go to mortuary school, this ceases to be creepy, and starts looking like a long day at work. You really do stop thinking of it in that sense, it's all just work related materials and tools after awhile. I do overnight removals for a mortuary, and usually am the only there after hours. You become very desensitized.

    • @abandonedcentral
      @abandonedcentral  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, tbh even if the door is wide open, it's still illegal to enter the building. I've been arrested at a YMCA that didn't even have exterior doors on the building. It was just completely wide open. They still arrested us for being inside.

What happened to that old hearse? I hope someone bought it and restored it. There are a lot of abandoned places in Elmira NY one abandoned place in Elmira NY is an old Baptist Church on Church Street near Wisner park. It has been abandoned for 30 years or more. Everytime someone goes into these abandoned places in Elmira NY to film document the history and put it on TH-cam they get the police called on them. Apparently people in Elmira NY don't want these abandoned places filmed documented and put on TH-cam. The explorers assume all liability of injuries they might sustain. The city is not held liable neither is the owner of the abandoned place held liable the explorers themselves are held liable for there own injuries. Sincerely Robert Gildea Elmira NY

I've always wondered what the back stories are behind these abandoned funeral homes. Are they foreclosed properties? Did the owners die and no one came to clear the place out? I just find it weird how there's a whole apartment upstairs and nothing was removed.

0:40 Someone should buy a clinic skeleton and put one in one of the caskets. really give someone a scare.
Like that video where those people found a human who hung himself in an abundant building.
1:16 You should take one of the caskets clean it. paint some awesome flames and maybe the Grim Reaper on the top. or maybe have it wrapped in some crazy design. May put back satin inside nice fluffy pillow in black satin. it would look great,

So many reasons why a funeral home ends up like this. Lots of the home based funeral homes get bought out.
    The last family member dies.
And sadly because they did something ILLEGAL and got closed down.
    That hearse is worth money
