  • In this video I show you how to use a custom trigger in a Dynamics 365 Real Time Marketing journey to create a follow up task. You can use custom triggers in Dynamics 365 Marketing to trigger a Power Automate flow, to create notifications or actions across any connector.
    Timestamps:
0:00 - Using Dynamics 365 Marketing with Power Automate
0:54 - Scenario: Create a follow up task for a transaction over $5000
    2:18 - Create a custom trigger
    5:02 - Create a trigger when a Dynamics 365 record is updated
6:50 - Create a real time marketing journey using a trigger
7:37 - Branch the journey based on the trigger
    8:42 - Activate a custom trigger in a journey
10:13 - Create a flow in Power Automate using attributes from the trigger and audience
17:00 - Publish and test the journey
18:08 - What are your scenarios for using custom triggers?

Another great video - thanks. It is going to be very interesting to see what is announced in this space at Ignite in 9 days time. If you look carefully at the pictures in the release documents for sales sequences there are clearly a bunch of unannounced features coming. Reading between the lines I think that marketing journeys and sales sequences will converge - possibly with the same underlying engine (they already have a common designer). The difference between a journey and a sequence being reduced to sequences always have a human in the loop whereas journeys may have a human in the loop. It will be very interesting to see whether things like custom triggers and power automate / RPA come to sequences. I think it is a question of when rather than if and it could be announced at Ignite.

Yep, it was already announced as part of the Wave 2 2022 release that you will be able to connect marketing journeys to sales sequences (although there is always detail and more coming than what we see in the release notes - interestingly this announcement appears both in the Sales Sequences section which is I think what you're referring to, and here in the Marketing release notes - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2022wave2/marketing/dynamics365-marketing/close-leads-fast-automating-handoffs-sales I fully expect this scenario - create a follow up task - may be replaced by that new functionality but I have people wanting to do it now and this isn't due until early 2023. :-) Definitely an interesting and exciting space to watch, I hope we will see even more coming.

Thanks Lisa. Really useful. In the same sort of way, I'm trying to create a trigger that would fire when someone creates a journey so that I can use that to send them into another separate journey. I can't find anything online that shows how to do this. Any thoughts? Could be a great video!

Hi Lisa, Thanks. Can these custom triggers be added via Google Tag Manager or do they need to go to webpage directly ?

Hi Lisa - How would you test a problem in a Real-Time journey? I created a journey where a form is filled out in Outbound and an email should be sent to the form submitters. Every submission goes to my no branch. My tree has the 'Marketing Form Submitted (Outbound)' trigger at the top, an If/Then branch next, Yes and No branch sends an email to each form submitter.
