Despite the Taliban regime's ouster in Afghanistan more than a decade ago, oppressive tribal traditions remain more powerful than law, leaving thousands of young Afghan women imprisoned or killed for 'moral crimes'.
When Soheila was 5 years old, she was given away in marriage to an old man as compensation for her older brother's crime: stealing the man's third wife. After years of abuse in the marriage, "I ran away with the man I love. When my father found me, he put me in prison. My son was born here in prison", explains Soheila. In 2009 President Karzai passed a law criminalising 23 acts of abuse towards women - including forced marriage. But it has rarely been enforced. "Unfortunately in Afghanistan, as a result of 30 years of war, cultural practices have more power than the law", says Soheila's warden. "We are not afraid of killing her", insists her brother. Soheila’s lover is serving a voluntary six-year sentence; a desperate bid to make peace with her father. "If there were justice they would arrest her father, the man who gave his daughter away in an exchange! There is no law - in the Koran or anywhere else - that says he can do that."

@@zizouace4890 I just love how you pick and choose certain papers to drive your highly erroneous arguments as evidence. I can easily do that by bringing up papers focusing in on Middle East, North Africa and South Asia as well. However, I'll use an actual global source in the WHO:
      1) www.who.int/reproductivehealth/publications/violence/VAW_Prevelance.jpeg?ua=1
Here is an actual peer reviewed graph by the world health organization showing worldwide sexual violence by partners and nonpartners
      - how can you possibly associate any religion practitioners with this evidence?
      2) And people often say intimate partner rape or rape against own children often by white? Well here is another statement by global researchers that did an extensive analysis on prevalence:
"Almost one third (30%) of all women who have been in a relationship have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner. The prevalence estimates of intimate partner violence range from 23.2% in high-income countries and 24.6% in the WHO Western Pacific region to 37% in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean region, and 37.7% in the WHO South-East Asia region."
      - this show
      3) apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/77434/WHO_RHR_12.37_eng.pdf;jsessionid=C148A4CCEBE0C95B1FC7721FDED9E841?sequence=1
This source not only identifies the prevalence and incidence of sexual violence against women, it identifies the factors that lead to sexual violence. p.s. Religion is not one of them
      4) Also, you seem to think every single person in the west is Christian or that every white person is Christian?
Within Christianity itself, issues with rape involve catholic churches in West Europe and North America. I am well aware that actual Christians commit such crimes, but I am also aware that other people of various religions do as well (including hindus and muslims). But my bigger point is that its not associated with religion, there are other factors that have way more influence.... Yet, you say 99% of rape is committed by Christians, apparently on behalf of their religion.
You know what you are? There is a word for it. Christianophobic. You hate Christians, that is the simple conclusion. But hey, if you enjoy making up bullshit to justify your hatred and bigotry, go for it.

@Bill Parviz It seems the Gov't is really trying! The problem is the tradition and the people, who refuse to respect women! The fault lies with the fundamentalist Imams, especially! They are the ones teaching and promoting this abuse!
Also, Qur'an needs to be made available to the People in their own tongue!! Many have not even read the Qur'an!
People need to learn how to discern when they are taught falsehoods and are misled by own Imams!
Why is it, in the West, I can get a Qur'an in any language!? But people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Africa, etc can not??
It seems purposeful! Imams don't want them to?
In a Christian past history, we had a same issue! The Catholic Church did not want its people to read the Holy Bible!
In fact, the Theologian that translated the Bible into English was executed by the Church!
Why do we do these things to each other??

    • @lenitaa7938
      @lenitaa7938 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@Rulya Ard Mhacha Farley In the West, people used to marry cousins, also! Especially Royals!
Only Hindus, it seems, have precise laws against it!
Reality is, physical issues present mostly with First cousins! Second cousins, are safer!
It didn't say, which cousin he is! First, second, third?
Her Child seems healthy, so I am guessing, not a first cousin!?
In this case, I don't care, if he is even first! He seems like a very decent, honorable, loving man! In that Country, she got a prize!
I am more mystified why her family is not pleased! He is family, after all!
Her father is furious, probably, that she defied him! 'Woman is a possession,' in strictest terms!

A father and male siblings should love their daughters and sisters and protect them, not murder them. They are monsters if they talk about murdering their daughters/sisters simply for marrying someone they love or for x reason. This all goes back to the religious beliefs of Islam. In Christianity and Judaism, followers are taught to respect life. Of course, people have a right to protect themselves and their families if they are attacked, but generally speaking, it is against religious law as well as legal law not to murder someone just because. But in Islam, it seems to be the opposite.

I suspect these men are illiterate and, also, havs never even opened a Qur'an!
Perhaps, your Mosques can help by sending Qur'ans in their languages and dialects to them!?? Qur'ans in print, and audio for those who cannot read!
And also teachings on how Prophet had respect for his wives and for women, and was against female infanticide!
Their harmful mentality needs to change! Or Islam will keep getting a bad reputation!
      Peace!

So in essence its a propaganda piece shot supposedly over a few years . That in itself is strange. . If you look at journeyman productions other offerings, you will find a familiar thread running right through. All sorts of practices take place all over the world . The heading of the video is in itself disingenuous. I question the motives of this production which is clearly a work of fiction . This is all propaganda bullshit. There are so many holes in this dramatized version.,of a story. How the hell are you going to communicate with a guy in prison through a cellphone. All indications were that the female lover was also communicating with him regularly . For a guy with diabetes and hepatitis he looked fairly healthy and cheerful and she was full of smiles and laughter in the taxi. This reporter related her story over a few years having no problem to document each time with full access. She was under strict house arrest yet managed to sneak out quite conveniently to get into a taxi. The father and brother are mentioning the Quran in their conversations. Surely they know that it is forbidden in the Quran to force a girl or women into a marriage. .Child betrothal promises were practised by tribal people in many parts of the world. there were needs of the time that neccesitated it with no ill intended. Many worked out fine and naturally some didnt work work and it affected both male and female.

How Does the Qur’an View Women?
Individual Muslim men might be very loving towards their wives. My friend Nabeel’s parents had a beautiful relationship, and so do many other Muslim couples. But there’s definitely a problem in the Muslim world.
In 2009, the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development released a report on Gender Equality and Social Institutions. They rated countries around the world based on the opportunities women have for education and employment, laws to protect women from physical violence, the percentage of women who are married and/or divorced by age 16, and so on. And they found that eleven of the twelve countries with the highest levels of discrimination against women were Muslim-majority countries.
A similar study in 2014, conducted by the World Economic Forum, using their own criteria, concluded that 19 of the 20 worst countries in the world, in terms of the gender gap between men and women, were Muslim-majority countries.
When you have a problem like this, you have to ask, “Why do so many Muslim countries have the same problem-namely, high levels of discrimination against women?” And what these countries have in common is their belief in the Qur’an.
Let’s look at three verses so we can see the source of the problem.
Surah 2, verse 282 of the Qur’an is a long verse dealing with contracts. But there’s an interesting part in the middle of the verse that says:
And get two witnesses out of your own men. And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (one of the two women) errs, the other can remind her.
The Qur’an says that, if two men aren’t available as witnesses, then get a man and two women. Here we find the Islamic principle that the testimony of a woman is worth half the testimony of a man. Why is this? Muhammad explains in Sahih al-Bukhari, where he says that the testimony of a woman is only half as reliable as a man’s testimony because women are intellectually deficient. They’re stupid.
This view of the reliability of a woman’s testimony has made it enormously difficult for Muslim women to testify against men in court. According to the New York Times, human rights workers have noted that as many as half of the women who report being raped in Pakistan are charged with adultery.
Another disturbing verses is Surah 2, verse 223, where Allah tells Muslim men:
Your wives are a tilth for you; so go to your tilth when or how you will . . .
We don’t use the word “tilth” much nowadays. A “tilth” is a patch of ground that you plow so you can sow your seed. The Qur’an says that women are a tilth that you approach whenever and however you want.
The historical background of this verse, according to Sunan Abu Dawud, is that when Muslims moved to Medina, they began marrying women from Medina, and the women of Medina didn’t want to have sex in certain positions. One woman told her husband not to come near her if he wanted sex in these positions. She said, “Stay away from me if you want me to do that.” The issue was brought to Muhammad, and Allah’s response was Surah 2, verse 223: “She’s your tilth, your field for sowing your seed; plow her however you want.” Notice, the wife has no right to refuse her husband’s sexual desires.
Let’s consider one more verse. Some women aren’t as quick to obey their husbands as Allah and Muhammad demand, so what are Muslim men supposed to do about rebellious wives? Allah answers in Surah 4, verse 34:
Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom you fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them.
If your wife doesn’t obey you, you warn her, banish her to a separate bed, and beat her until she does what you say.
A study by Human Rights Watch reports that more than 85% of Afghan women are victims of physical, sexual, or psychological violence or forced marriage, and that more than 60 percent are victims of multiple forms of violence? Why? Because of the Qur’an.
According to Allah and Muhammad, women are stupid; they’re the property of men and have to submit themselves fully to their husbands’ sexual whims; those who don’t are to be beaten into submission. Numerous studies show the real-world impact of these teachings. And yet we’re told, by politicians, reporters, and Muslim groups that the discrimination against women in Muslim countries has nothing to do with Islam. But as long as people refuse to confront the actual problem, women in Muslim countries will continue to suffer.

@@donnaross4885 This is Patriarchy! Women in the West were expected to obey and some were beaten, also! Women could not vote, had no land rights, etc! The Bible was used to defend the man's rights! Submission to men!
Women and children were treated as property, also! Some still live this way! Even in some 'Christian' homes!
Yes, change is needed in the Muslim and other countries! Hindus and Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians have Child Marriages, forced marriages, also! Honor killings! More likely in the improvished, illiterate communities!
Depends on the education, own finances, community, country, etc!
Some countries and/or people there, incl Muslim ones, are more progressive!
I know that Iranians and Syrians, etc value education for their daughters and want them to have more rights and a voice! That is why so many Iranians have left Iran! They told me...'to give better lives' for their Daughters!
The men in the rural Afghanistan are most likely illiterate! Education needs to be given to them! Education shouldn't be just for the rich and wealthy!
Change comes slowly, it can not be hurried! One step at the time!
Meanwhile we need to help out and support/sponsor those families that want education for their children! Support/sponsor the women and couples, etc needing personal safety, etc!

What right do these men believe they have to dictate a woman's life?! A woman is a human being with a mind and desires of her own! A man has no right to take a woman's basic human dignity! Soheila's family spoke as if she were a stranger or worse a thing rather than a sister and daughter. As a woman I feel for my suffering sisters in Afhanistan and other patriarchal cultures. Women's rights have always been important to me, and I want to help women like Soheila so badly.

I've been reading Winter in Kabul lately. This brings it all to life. Into sharper focus.
The real crimes here are crimes against humanity. Which go unaccounted for when the victims are not seen as human beings. The father speaks of a thing I've read about. That females in a family structure are seen as no more than livestock, to be controlled.
I've know farmers in my life here, who treat their animals better. But that's because you don't require an animal to be moral.
So when morality is owned by one gender, the power play is perfect and complete.
Two people going to prison for love. The irony does not escape me.
Especially when I consider how many tens of millions of marriages in the world feel like prison.
Such a brutal oppression rages across this land that has no tears left to weep for peace.
And yet the human spirit lives on.

    • @chatgpt4135
      @chatgpt4135 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well, their definitions of morality are also screwed and actually false, they use the word 'Moral or Modest' to legalise ' One-sided Cruelty, Oppressive bullying and Shameless behaviour' upon subordinates or unpriviledged sections , to be able to do 'Cruelty' freely with 'Praises' and without being questioned or restrained from doing so.
Bullying, sexual harassment under certain 'Ways', selling and trading and raping of girls against her will as 'Inanimate meatballs' politically , forced marriages , child abuse n sexual enslaving of kids, and sexual oppression and rapes in name of marriages that is all in all, criminal attitudes are glorified as 'MORALITY', while who oppose are labeled 'IMMODEST', immorality and bullying is propapagated under sugarcoat of word 'Culture, pride n morality'
