A Deer Swam Across the River RIght in Infront of US! Wild Family - E.2 - 10-Day, 100km Canoe Camping Trip With Kids on Northern Ontario’s French River | Wild Family - E.2
Day 6 of our French River canoe trip with kids started early in the morning as a slight drizzle came down on our wild campsite. After a camp breakfast of instant oatmeal in the wilderness, we loaded our canoe and began paddling. I fished for smallmouth Bass and soon ran a whitewater rapid. I solo rapids in our loaded, 18' prospector canoe as my wife Tori watches the kids. The day consisted of several more rapids which put us behind schedule. We were getting concerned about our time when just to add a little more stress, Hudson threw my new GoPro Hero 10 into the water, it was gone forever with all our footage. Things cheered up right afterward when we ran a swift with the family and the kids loved it. It was an emotional rollercoaster.
Not long after we passed cross island which is said to be hunted by the ghosts of three missionaries who were buried there. Right after that we watched a whitetail deer, a large doe swim across the river and we got some great footage of her. We pushed on, paddling on calm water with little to no people around and soon decided on a beautiful campsite after completing about 20kms that day. We pitched our camping tent right by the river and I did a little over-the-fire cooking with the fish I'd caught earlier that day. It was an absolutely perfect evening and we were excited to see what the next day had in store.
This was our longest and farthest canoe trip with both kids to date. Our baby Hudson was 14 months old and our son Wesley had just turned 4 years ole, and naturally, that comes with a lot of challenges, particularly because Wesley has a rare condition called Fox G1 Syndrome. We did this canoe trip in Sep. before beginning our overlanding trip on the Trans-Labrador Highway. I'm running film series from both adventures on my channel right now.

HAHAHAHA !!! Hudson does not only look exactly like his dad…….when Jim asked him if he was ready to go camping…..he let out one of dad’s infamous “YEEEEEEEAAAH !!!!”
I think he learned that from listening to my footage as I edited it.

My first trip to the French was in "59" and then on and off through the 1960's you can never get enough of it, the beauty of the land and river, I can't think of another place I would like to go I went back in the 80's with my dad and then later with my son, we are planning a trip back this summer, I am now in my seventies and I can't wait! There may not be many more chanses for me, but my son will be carying on the tradition with his son.
Jim's baby's first words ever is :"“YEEEEEEEAAAH !!!!” You taught him good, how to throw rocks into water! Hence the "GoPro" splash! LOL Thanks for sharing!
Jim, I've enjoyed your channel for years. I always look forward to your adventures, whether solo, with Ted, with Tori, with the dog, or with other friends. Speaking from the parent/husband point of view, I get the feeling this could be my favorite series you've ever made. Seeing the teamwork, the care you both have for your absolutely adorable kids, and the sense of adventure that everyone has is amazing. Fantastic stuff.

You shoud change your title from "adventurer" to "Dad-venturer". Always amazing when people not only going on multi day adventures but do it with little kids! Love the approach you guys are taking and how you deal with the physical and mental challenges.
I am in awe of you and your wife-doing this alone as a couple is impressive but with two small kids it's on a whole other level! I can barely get my husband to go camping in our trailer in full hook up RV parks. I can't imagine what he would say if I asked him to do this.
Haha, well it is a lot more work but I think it’s more fun and you get to explore more new places than at an RV park, so, even if it’s more work than that, it might be more worth it for some.
Those boys are awesome in the canoe and the pup is super still quite. Also the pup stays close by the boys. Some awesome memories you are making. Thanks for taking us along.
I have some ability issues since the age of 10, now 69 years old so have my limits, but I try to do as much as I can.

Just met a bear hunting group that hunts the French River. He said there's a large bear population along the river. I told him we saw so much bear sign along the Sturgeon River last Summer. Your adventures are always so inspiring. Thanks Jim and Tori

Jim. You are great guy and so is your family. I love to watch videos, as I never make it to great Canadian nature. You are showing us how Canada is great, and it has many beautiful places, many of us had not visited.
About you feeling sick after concusion, you ought to be very carefull, your symptoms required medical emergency. Take such issues seriously, people died after such injuries. Your adorable kids want father to be around for a long time.

My daughter is 11 now and has a genetic condition and she is just like your son. We love camping but we do it in a trailer now and that is a lot of work , cant imagine doing a canoe trip. I know how much extra work is involved,much respect👍

Great adventure for the kids. We stopped and did the short hike on the French River on our way to Superior this past fall. Love stopping there on our way North. Thanks Tori and Jim for sharing your adventures.

I loved this Jim.... SO glad you are better and I still worried somewhat... so hard for you to slow down I'm sure. To do a trip with the children sure means a slower pace but not uneventful, LOLOL. I was curious to know when the children watch themselves and see you on the screen if they liked it; that must be interesting, Your mom must love seeing these! Pace yourselves with the children so you all get to enjoy it and soon enough...they will be holding a kayak paddle!
