You should look up the quartz crystal that was donated by B.E. Gillie at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science then. It's 1,837 carats and cut very nicely with many facets.
whilst watching how Mr. Moriarty is cutting the crystal somebody asked me if I am in the jewel industry. - no, I'm not, but I like to see beautiful stones, precious or not but pretty. - they are nice & silent friends ...
As an Arkansas native I'm happy to see this quartz being cut by you. I often found beautiful quartz as a kid, esp. in the Little Rock area. Often wished that I could make jewelry from them, but just never had any way to do that. I did make some free form jewelry from shells from the Spring River that was fun and a gift for Mother's Day. Thank you for posting this!
Oh wow... I never knew you could get a quartz to look like that! And here I prized the raw formed pinnacles, the hand of man has turned a beautiful stone in to a magical wonder. I have never seen a quartz crystal that was fit for a king, but you've done it, sir! You inspire me to take up gem polishing
Thanks for watching and the kind comments! If you decide to start cutting, check out our instructional videos here: th-cam.com/video/w6FEaxgSNgg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much. Do you have any advice for the cutting of Ellensburg Blue? I don't know if you've ever cut one, but I'm looking for advice so I don't mess up with the ones I find.
Most Amazing work, this is surely the best large cut Quartz I have ever seen, the brilliance is just amazing, at first when you watch the video you wonder why that many facets on the Pavilion and such a dome shaped crown, until the cut stone is shown, and you see the brilliance of the light reflecting of the pavilion facets, just amazing... no sign of a window whatsoever. Fantastic work. thanks for posting.
My Mom had satellite with evening "Gem Shopping". With close to a hundred channels, whenever tv got boring there was ALWAYS "Gem Shopping" to watch for inspiration. Always. God dances with you when there is a gem to look into. Thank you.
You're welcome! Feel free to subscribe and browse through our videos any time you get bored! You can even make purchases on our "Gem Shopping" website www.MoreGems.com ! :D
Most excellent! Bravo! Thanks for sharing. I'm new to this and am picking up a used Facetron. I've been hand faceting opal, quartz and amethyst to some varying degrees of success using a Foredom. I am highly encouraged to hear to hear the amount of time you have spent working on these works of art. I thought I was a slacker, but in reality, I discovered that this isn't an easy, quick process. Thanks again! I'm encouraged and excited to move forward.
+Eric Moen Thank you for watching! Did you see our in depth instructional videos? Steve goes through each step in more detail. Good luck and stay excited! If you haven't already, check them out here: th-cam.com/video/w6FEaxgSNgg/w-d-xo.html
I watched this before I got a faceting machine and I was impressed. Now that I've had my machine for a couple years, I'm in awe. The thought of cutting something that large has my shoulder cramping up with sympathy pains.
+Alan Jackson Buy some inexpensive rough like rhodolite garnet. At least when your finished you have something of value and you dont have to say its just glass. $10 will get you something genuine.
Absolutely stunning! The brilliance is drop-dead gorgeous. Thank you for choosing a stone that we TH-camrs could see you create a Gem out of. Congrats on your "Quarter-Pounder"! I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your work. You are truly gifted and tallented, sir.
+Lori Allen Thanks for watching and subscribing! We have many beautiful gems available in a wide range of sizes! We're always cutting new gems and you can see most of our work at www.MoreGems.com!
One question, please. What is the difference between Jade and Jadite? How can one tell the difference between the two? Thanks for your professional explanation.
There is no easy way to determine the difference between jade, jadite, or nephrite. There are so many treatments out there that it makes it very hard to tell the difference between them. The best bet would be to have them submitted to a GIA lab or find an expert on that type of gem.
Imagine this gorgeous quartz set on a pendant! Would look even more stunning. Deserved to be set in Platinum, 18Kt gold ( it could white, yellow or rose and accented with amethyst or citrine or any colour gem).
Thanks for watching! We made a video showing you where to start if you want to learn how to cut! Check out the introductory video here: th-cam.com/video/w6FEaxgSNgg/w-d-xo.html
All three. There is a depth gauge on the machine but you still need to keep an eye on it as it is not totally accurate and if I am doing multiple facets to the same depth I do count to know how long to go before looking at the stone particularly when polishing.
This one was cut on the c axis which may add to brilliance as it is the singly refractive direction so you get no doubling of the facets although it is not dramatic in quartz as it would be in zircon. Other colors we are more concerned with color zoning
I have facetted some stones myself...... spinel, zirkon. You did a fantastic job!! I know how much concentrated work it takes.......this is "museum" material!! Greetz from Holland
@@Moregems Do you guys buy gem rocks? We have access to mines...i have huge rare rocks and also others like tourmaline green natural huge rocks..we can supply as well. I have picks and video
I prefer a 100, 220, 1200, 3000, 14000 to finish. I only use 220 sintered before I start polish with a similar machine. I even do that with opal or fire agate, nova points after 220 sintered. I love your process and found this video. I'm taking on bigger cuts.
Steve you did a fantastic job on this quartz. I bet polishing those large facets would have taken some time (especially the table). I'm a Australian faceter, and I also upload vids on youtube about faceting gems. Just wondering, did the design of this cut come out of your own imagination or was it someone else design? I would really like to try this design myself if it comes from a faceting book . If so, could you please send a link or PM me. Thanks Cliff

You're welcome, and yes I've already watched all seven of those videos and will probably do so again. In fact they've helped me decide to go ahead and invest in this new skill set and equipment. I've always loved crystals and gemstones, rock hounding, and especially faceted stones. Watching this video and seeing the end result just blew me away. I want to do that and at 50 years old, I'm going to. Thanks again!
Unbelievable! I never knew quartz could shine so much.
This inspires me.
