    Hi Steve! I bought a faceting machine because my girlfriend and I are avid rock hounders and want to turn some of our raw gems into jewelry. We quickly learned how difficult this will be but are very determined to educate ourselves. We’re looking into some books but your videos have helped immensely. If I gave you my email could you help me whenever I have questions? Again great videos! Very informative

      @Moregems looks like they are out of stock. I will probably just 3d print an elevation stand, and use a small bucket and install dripper hardware. At this point, it seems easier haha. But they have a TON of awesome items I'll be checking out! Thank you for the suggestion.

    great videos. I picked up two amateur gemstone faceting books and I am getting ready to purchase a faceting machine. I have some history in the dental lab tech and I have always wanted to get into faceting. If one would ever like to pick up some tanzanite how many cuts do you think it would take to get proficient enough to pull off that kind of stone. I think my wife would love a new ring made of her birthstone color and some purple. Thanks again.

    As you said that the large rough was orthorhombic and that you suggested being off by 10+/- degrees to avoid polishing issues regarding the C Axis ... I was wondering if the smaller tumbled stone would have to be approached the same way? How do you determine proper alignment in a stone that's had it's natural faces removed? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks for posting...love all your videos.

    • @Moregems
      @Moregems  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will have to try this. The dicroscope or a polariscope may help to I.D. the c axis which we are trying to avoid. If the dicroic colors are strong enough we may be able to ID the “c” as it will show only one color.

    I think any stones look 10× better with inclusions in them. Perfectly clean and clear gems are stale and boring,they jus look like glass gems in a ring if not.

      This is why if I'm a cutter i would make an unique cutting that have some portion higher and pointy and looking a bit like a stone and nicely cuts combined still to have enough sparkle...and big

    Hi great video! I just subscribe to you channel and thank you for creating a helpful guide towards new and experienced gem cutters. I’ve recently been gem mining and found many “garnets, tourmaline, Aqua marine, and Golden beryl gems” all found at Gem Mountain in North Carolina . I want to learn to cut them and bring out there true beauty. I’m still learning what types of gems there are but I’m hoping this Topaz gem you have is a similar cutting process to the gems I have

    I want to ask. How to know that the stone is price less how will you check is genuine

    • @Moregems
      @Moregems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No question about it being genuine just from the crystal structure but as to the nature of the color it cannot be proven that there are no treatments. It was a new find and was available from multiple sources all stating the same that it was natural. My source is someone I have known for 35 years and is to be trusted.
