  • When it rains it 🫠 I dragged Taylor to the Sierra Gorda mountains near Querétaro during what's probably the worst time of year to visit. This Mexico travel vlog is our most off the beaten path adventure to date.

During a trip to Costa Rica during “dry” season, we took a horseback riding tour and hike to see spectacular scenery and waterfalls.
On our walk back up from viewing an amazing waterfall a torrential downpour started. We had rivers of red mud flowing over our shoes as we oh so carefully made our way back up the steep climb to our horses.
It was so bad that even our horses were slip sliding on the now muddy trail. So much so that I didn’t even want to get on mine and wanted to walk back.
Our guide convinced me that all would be well and we slowly made it back to the entry point. The guide said he was shocked because it truly was dry season.
I literally kissed my horse but swore I’d never got on another one after that traumatic experience!

We hiked up the back of Whistler Mountain, Canada in August a few years back. It was 25 degrees when we left the village in shorts and t-shirts. Four hours later, when we got up top - it started snowing! Fortunately, we were able to take the gondola back down to the village. Lesson learned - in the mountains, weather can change in an instant and you have to be prepared for anything. (PS - Sorry about you runners!).

Thanks for sharing your honest experience. It was still nice for people to see so that if they visit, they can know what they're looking for...especially once you get off highways.

This video is hysterical! Thanks for posting. It looked beautiful but I completely understand that you didn't go for the fog and rain. I remember dragging my whole family to the beach at sunset in Puerto Vallarta and just seeing clouds from an approaching storm.

Taylor didn't look overly impressed. "Next time, he's going to plan the trip", says it all. 🤣😂😅

Yeah I wanna drive from Qro to Bernal and Tequis soon but I'm worried the roads will be flooded from the rain. Anyway, good for you for continuing to find subjects for your channel. Such a pro. Albeit a soggy one.

You can definitely drive from Querétaro to Bernal and Tequisquiapan! The highway is really good 🤓

Visit Ayutla Queretaro on holy week, it's a big fest on the side of two merging rivers, one with warm water and one with cold water. The place is called Las Adjuntas.

We got permits to hike the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali coast in Hawai'i. Bucket list item for me. About 250 yards in from the parking lot I slipped on a rock, twisted my ankle and then sprained my wrist in the fall.
Some things just aren't meant to be 🤪

You should try again in dry season - and pack some provisions (food, wine, water, etc) - so you can enjoy your evening up top. The mountains looked absolutely beautiful - but it can be disappointing when it is fogged in. (PS - I noticed Taylor taking photos of the car before you left. I would love to see a video about your experience renting cars in Mexico).

The guacamayas part cracked me up. Sounded like they were having their own private party and no one else was invited!😆

@@alex-wittman In Mazatlan two years ago, I was woken up very early in the morning by the loudest and weirdest sound of two animals having a back-and-forth convo. I took a recording and two of my friends who live in Culiacan told me that they were Guacamayas. I can only imagine what a party of them must sound like.

Sorry it rained on your parade, you had a good idea for a hike but the weather just didn't cooperate. You did manage hikes anyway and tasted food from a different part of your state so that's not bad!

Yes, the rainy season anywhere is usually the worst time to go hiking, and the most dangerous (for slip and fall accidents). Sorry, this was such a disappointing trip for you guys. Even worse, no ability to shower after all that sweaty hiking. Ugh!

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I stayed for a week in a place like this in the Sierra outside Oaxaca. It was cold, rained every day, and there was no hot water (despite what we’d been told). It was kinda miserable!

I had another one of my most humbling travel experiences in the Pueblos Mancomunados outside of Oaxaca City…we actually left a day early 😅
