Follow the leader is garbage, as a kid, I loved it but listening to it again. It’s so corny, all in the family?? Wtf,? Only good song is probably it’s on and got the life, but it was a total shift in direction for korn, they lost that rawness in favour for over production,
I feel deftones had the best 3rd album, it projected them into the career they have now and was the beginning of them separating from the nu metal pack

Mer de Noms and 13th Step both were gorgeous examples of a proggy art-rock style, one that I believed felt highly fresh in a time period around 1999-05. Porcupine Tree would be my other favorite of the style, but yeah they're not nu-metal, but all the while worth mentioning.

The reason why that third Orgy sucked so bad was because both original guitar players (Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh) had left. Those guys formed a better band called "Julien-K" and actually had a side project with Chester Bennington called "Dead By Sunrise".

Meteora's filler tracks have slowly grown on me, and after I finish listening to Meteora I get this feeling of happiness/satisfaction/enlightenment that I don't get from when listening to Hybrid. I like the run time of Meteora its short/impactful/ and to the point.
Lateralus definitely has better compositions. Songs like The Grudge/Schism/ Parabol & Parabola/ Lateralus is what got me interested in tool in the first place. Lateralus has extremely high points, but I love Aenima. I see Aenima as tool just jamming out as a band not trying to fit in with what was going on at the time. You could hear through the music that they had fun making this record.
Steal This Album I truly love, every album is spectacular. Steal This Album for me feels unfinished. And when I think of System, Mezmerize's sound/production/ and even their look is what I immediately think of.
Breaking Benjamin has been pretty consistent throughout their career. We are Not Alone & Phobia are great records, but there are two songs that I skip from both those records. Dear Agony is a record I could listen to without skipping any tracks.

I am glad there are people who also love that album, its extremely overlooked, i was going through a pretty nasty breakup some time ago and this was my getgo album with shun's michael in reign ep, it just resonated with my soul. And like you said, there is a reason why it was as popular as it was back in the early 2000s, its just so unique and depressing even for a mainstream record but its still quite mainstream. Good video tho! Altho i disagree with the vol 3 placing.

prepare for long boi comment with a lot of opinions and some hot takes
I think Follow The Leader is a bit overrated. It has legendary songs like Got The Life and Freak on a Leash, but the bad songs are terrible and I end up hitting the skip button a lot. But the good songs are S Tier individually.
To paraphrase Jeff Winger from Community, Limp Bizkit to me is like Paul Rudd. I see the appeal and I wouldn’t want to take that away from anyone, but I’m also not first in line for it. That being said, Wes Borland is a very talented guitarist and most of the hits are really great, like Break Stuff, Nookie, Re-Areanged, Rollin, Full Nelson, Counterfeit, etc. but I just don’t care much for the deep cuts and I can’t stand about half of their catalog.
Vol. 3 is my second favorite Slipknot album behind Iowa, but my rating changes frequently. I love how diverse it is, with songs I can take to the gym, release my anger to, and everything in between. But it just doesn’t have the same intensity that made Iowa a masterpiece, which is why I rank it slightly lower.
Minutes To Midnight is a sad one. Some of my favorite Linkin Park songs are on it, but the great songs only make the experience worse because they’re just reminders of what could’ve been, how this new sound could’ve worked. Most of it is just pop rock garbage with the occasional real LP song, but that doesn’t save the experience at all. Given Up genuinely might be LP’s worst song, or at least a close second to Sharp Edges.
I used to be a huge Powerman 5000 fan, but then I just grew out of it. Still fun to revisit though from time to time, and not the worst nü metal out there.
White Pony is the Deftones album that brought them into my top 5 favorite bands of all time, metal or otherwise. I waited a while to listen to it when I was binging their discography, and then at a time when I was going through some personal struggles with mental health and relationships, I gave it a listen in a dark room with noise canceling headphones, and… oh wow. The atmosphere, the creepy aesthetic, the riffs, the vocals, everything just clicked at that time. An absolute masterpiece. If I had to choose a second favorite Deftones album, it’s probably close between Saturday Night Wrist and Koi No Yokan. And maybe Around The Fur as well. And Diamond Eyes… idk man, they’re all just so good and my ranking changes every time I listen to one. White Pony is the only one that’s stayed at the top.

Personally I love The Mourning After. It's got some of my favorite songs on it. I also honestly love a lot of Trapt's music, but it's hard to listen to because of the singer's horrid personality.
As for Minutes To Midnight, Getting Away With Murder, and Ten Thousand Fists, I don't really think they're nu metal albums. I love all three of them, but I can definitely understand why some people may not like them as much because of the shift in direction. TTF is just metal to me, GAWM is a catchy hard rock album, and MTM is a pop rock album.
Vol 3 is different, but it's still solid to my ears. I don't love it as much as their self titled, but it's better than everything that Slipknot made afterwards.
Glad you showed Break The Cycle the love it deserves. I have a hard time listening to it because of Aaron Lewis, but with separation of art and artist, that album is fantastic.

    • @MetalTrenches

I would say that it's probably not worth doing a fourth albums tier list for nu metal. I enjoy the content but I think most nu metal bands at this point either are putting out crap records or have moved on to not playing nu metal anymore. Hell some of the records on this list aren't even nu metal: Linkin Park, Deftones, Disturbed (all records I love). I'll watch if you make it, I just think their wouldn't be much to talk about.

Wow lol. So this might be the video we differ the most on so far. I was huge into NuMetal, but I'm a few years older so that might be why, but... Coal Chamber is a d teir band regardless of the album if that. Both the Slipknot and and Sevendust albums are FAR superior. The Limp Bizkit album was a big dropoff from the first two also. C teir for that one. Death knell for me. Also I think we know record sales don't mean shit as far as quality goes. Papa Roach is just straight trash even from the first album. Staind is pretty damn bad too. Almost entirely butt rock after Dysfunction. American Head Charge is another band that's embarrassing altogether. But hey White Pony is one of the greatest albums ever made so we got that! Lol. 4th albums is probably a stretch. Only a few bands even had decent releases and I think they'd be obvious, but what do I know. I jumped ship before you on most of these. I wouldn't include Rob Zombie at all, but he fell off after the second album anyway.

  • @stormrhode2330

KoRn has a lot of badass albums. But their debut and Issues are by far my favorite, too. I'd give Follow the Leader an A. It's got some skippable tracks for sure, but the good is gold.
I like Saliva's back into your system. Pretty fun album. I forgot it was their third. I'd give it a B.
Limp Bizkit's CSatHFL is a lot like Follow the Leader, in my opinion. Some of it's great, some of it sucks. I'd give it a B. Their sophomore album would get a solid S from me, though. So freaking good.
Disturb's 10k Fists would get a C, maybe a D from me. I LOVE their debut album, but this was a little lackluster to me. I agree, too radio friendly.
Papa Roach's Getting Away with Murder is alright, but nothing comes close to Infest. Infest would get an S, Getting Away with Murder would get a C from me. I like their heavy, aggressive stuff.
Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight would garner a C from me. Hybrid Theory was one of the first albums I ever had (alongside Incubus' Make Yourself) and was a staple of my childhood. With nostalgia, it gets an S. Meteora gets an A. But this one, I like it, but not THAT much.
Mudvayne, I totally agree with you. Probably a D.
Mushroomhead's all over the place for me. Haha
I can enjoy a little of Orgy's Punk Static Paranoia, but I definitely wouldn't say it's good. Probably a D.
The first couple of times I listened to Taproot's Blue Sky Research, I found it kinda lackluster and would've given it a C. But, the more I listened to it, the more I grew to appreciate it. I actually love the album and honestly, I'd probably give it a solid A.
I LOOOOVE American Head Charge's The Feeding. I discovered it around six years ago and was blown away. I'd give it an S for sure.
I haven't listened to Trapt's Someone in Control in many years, but I do remember liking it. I'd probably give it a C, maybe a B, but I don't remember.
White Pony is another album I grew up with and it has a special place in my soul. I'd give it an S without question and I agree, it's probably the best on this entire list.
I know a ton of these bands and albums, but not all of them. Thanks for adding to my list of material to check out! :)

I can see where people may have felt that way at the time, but they nailed it so well with the first two, that I'm not sure how much further they could have taken it. Linkin Park, Slipknot, Deftones, Sevendust, Disturbed and Soulfly all changed their sound, System of a Down and Limp Bizkit fell off hard, the guy from TRAPT became the guy from TRAPT, and everyone else faded out of relevancy.
