After the release of Slipknot's self titled album, it was replaced with a new version that removed two of its tracks: Purity and Frail Limbs Nursery. This was due to an issue with a crime website. Here is a look at what happened.

That drawing of Slipknot crucifying Fred Durst was the cover of my binder in middle school. Teachers were not too fond of it and kept confiscating it. But i had lots of copies and each day I'd come back with a new one and eventually they gave up.
so these memories came rushing back because of your comment. I also had a binder in middle school that was dedicated to photos taken from kerrang, revolver and the like. The one with kud (mudvayne) with a bullet hole in his forehead got me fucked with by teachers a lot so I swapped it for a cool pic of joey (slipknot) in his iowa era mask and dark green jumpsuit.

I had the Kiss logo scrawled on my notebook covers and my teachers thought the two S's were Nazi/SS logos on more than one occasion.

Hey! At 2:23, I drew that! My drawings are a little better now, haha! Fun fact: In 2000-2001, Roadrunner UK asked me to draw a few Slipknot drawings for digital wallpaper on their site. I drew that piece and a couple others in exchange for a box of CD's and maybe $50. It was my first "paying gig" and I felt like I was on top of the world. Great video!

Purity was one of my favorite tracks from self titled. I loved Joey's drum work in the verses and I loved the 90's aesthetic drop in the chorus. Plus the intensity in "Something in you I despise..." is something else
Purity is my favorite song that I used to listen to growing into my teen years. Always thought the song was about a person suffering internally, emotional disabled, and confused by the many face around as I felt as a kid. But I also heard of this lady buried in a box, which I thought all referenced to being dead inside. My perspective and take on the song as a listener.
Purity was actually rereleased on the Disasterpieces live DVD. It was played live, and the studio version was included in the bonus features🤘🔥

Purity was absolutely one of my fave songs on that album. Alongside Sic, Eyeless and Surfacing (the latter being the song which got me, a Limp Bizkit fan, to finally give Slipknot the time of day, and is still my fave Slipknot song to this day)

I remember when I was around 14 I ordered a copy of the album from Amazon for five bucks. Later on, I was talking about it with a friend who is a massive Slipknot fan and when I started talking about Frail Limb, he was like "Wait, you have Frail Limb and Purity on there?" I said I did and he told me that those songs were removed on later releases and that I had one of the original copies. It goes for like $50 now.
I had a copy like yours, purchased it in early '00s and for some stupid reason, I lent it to my younger brother's (at the time) girlfriend. You can imagine what happened a few months later -- they broke up, and I've _never_ seen that disc again.
Decades later, I am still kicking myself over it.
I've learned my lesson the hard way, I am never lending books or CDs ever again.
Purity appears to be now a staple for the album as its on the 10th anniversary release but frail limb doesn't seem like it's ever seeing public light again (at least as an official track)

Loved slipknot when I was a kid and young teenager never knew about this. It would have probably made me even more interested in them. Well should have watched the whole video first. Can’t believe it was fake after all that I went though in 5 minutes.

Thanks for putting this together, I’ve been a hardcore Slipknot fan since I was a young kid but I actually learned a couple things from your video.
The UK release of the digipack had both tracks on it, I still have my copy and just checked but I do remember a lot of my friends not knowing the song Purity because their copies of the album didn't have it.
It has always been my favourite song on that album.
"Purity Knight" and "Valerie Wilson" sound like characters you'd interrogate in a Nancy Drew game.

The use of earthbound music kinda spoils the surprise of this story. Though I guess it is also foreshadowing a little bit.
I loved this song so much growing up (along with the entirety of the S/T album) that I was going to get the word ‘purity’ tattooed on the side of my hand but.. I figured it would’ve been misinterpreted by just about everybody beside the few who were aware lol xP I’m currently preparing to cover the whole album in one take on guitar (some day I’d like to do all the instruments plus vocals)
I had no idea this happened!!! Great video. Love slipknot, they got me through being abused as a child/teen. Later I would watch an interview with Corey describing the abuse he suffered as a child/teen and it was sadly similar to what I went through. Bands like this can save lives ✌🏾
I personally felt the whole section of you mentioning Slipknot being your favorite and dubbing their self title album . It was literally the first band that made me like metal and I was just as obsessed. Dubbed tapes from the CDS for myself. Music was never the same for me after that.

I got the self titled album for Xmas the year it came out in '99. I had the version with "Frail limb nursery" and "Purity". I didn't hear the song "me inside" until after Iwoa had came out
Purity is my favorite track. The first time I saw them was at Ozzfest in 99 in Clarkston, Michigan. The next time was in Detroit at Harpos theater. We ended up being late. And walked in just as they were going into Purity. Cory was talking about the origin of it. It was powerful and creepy. It was stuck in my mind forever. Even after I knew it was just a story.

Faulkner died in 1962 so he didn’t write it. But that makes it funnier to me that they’re objecting to SlipKnot being inspired by their story when by that logic you could argue that they stole from Faulkner

Great video! You should do one analyzing why the band refuses to fully talk about the MFKR era. Basically it's like they will talk about the early 90's days of the group coming together, but then skip the Anders / MFKR years. Also refusing to talk about Josh Brainard being on guitar and in jacket and promo photos for the self-titled album.

I'm glad I bought their major label debut right when it dropped in 1999. I have the original release on both cassette and CD, then later bought the slightly remastered digipak with the "Me Inside" replacement track.

Fun fact The first cd release of this album with these two songs are so hard to find, but in other countries like Indonesia and Thailand the album released on cassette and it’s pretty easy to find a copy with frail limb nursery and purity on it.
I remember some of this from that time, early 00s were a weird time. Me & my brother had actually picked up Slipknot’s first album shortly after release cuz we saw it in a record store on vacation in Summer ‘99. It was pretty awesome that a few months later we seen them on that Coal Chamber tour along with Dope.

I wonder if the website was inspired by the case of Ursula Herrmann, which is an actual real life murder case that's extremely similar to the Purity story. It happened in 1981 in Germany, can't remember more specifically where. But she was buried alive and suffocated because the air wasn't circulated.

Self Titled and Iowa are true masterpieces because of just how dark and intriguing they are.

speaking of band rumors n such, when i was in like 4th grade maybe, i heard the band korn was named korn because one of the band members ate corn out of someones shit. im not even joking its what i heard and i never looked up if that was at all true but at the same time i dont think i have to, to know the truth lol. if this case was today you could give it to 4chan and they'd either solve it in 24 hours or make it worse in 24 hours. 97 was before trolling was a thing so these answers are either legit are sarcastic and since its internet we really can't tell but im guessing its real answers so im pretty sure a lot of people today are stupid and not trolling. thank you 1997 forum!
Lol remember this exact same rumor. EVERYONE believed it and I actually know the source. There was a VHS tape released in 1996 or maybe 97 called KORN:Unauthorized that basically told the history of Korn in the Bakersfield underground scene and included live footage and some ripped off music videos. Well on this tape when the main narrator was explaining the bands history he said Jonathon Davis was at a party and 2 homosexuals were licking each others as$es in full view of everyone there when one of the men accidentally shat in the others mouth and everyone seen corn in the mess. I remember how the narrator of this bootleg VHS was recalling this story of the bands name like it was brutal or badass or something and even as a young teen I just thought it sounded ridiculous lmao.

In the UK we never had Purity nor Fragile Limbs Nursery on our copies of Slipknot's 1999 debut album. Never knew these songs existed. But I checked Spotify and their version of the album does have Purity on it.

Frail Limb Nursery samples audio from the website so that track couldn't be saved. However, Purity is indeed fair use. Slipknot probably took the track out to play it safe.
Some strong evidence for this is the fact that Purity was released later, while FLN never saw an official release after being pulled.
There is a original release with "Purity" and "Frail Limb Nursery". I have a vinyl copy of the release.

There's a lot of urban legends around Slipknot from back then. Most of them are bullshit but this is by far the most interesting, because it felt real when you first hear about it. Also the removal of Purity from the reissues contributed to the urban legend.

I seen Slipknot in 2002 on the Pledge of Allegiance tour with SOAD and Rammstein. In St Louis. It was eight before Iowa came out. It was a fantastic show
