Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is a game created by Ignacy Trzewiczek, the author of Stronghold. This time Trzewiczek takes the players to a deserted island, where they'll play the parts of shipwreck survivors confronted by an extraordinary adventure. They'll be faced with the challenges of building a shelter, finding food, fighting wild beasts, and protecting themselves from weather changes. Building walls around their homes, animal domestication, constructing weapons and tools from what they find and much more awaits them on the island. The players decide in which direction the game will unfold and - after several in-game weeks of hard work - how their settlement will look. Will they manage to discover the secret of the island in the meantime? Will they find a pirate treasure, or an abandoned village? Will they discover an underground city or a cursed temple at the bottom of a volcano? Answers to these questions lie in hundreds of event cards and hundreds of object and structure cards that can be used during the game...
Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is an epic game from Portal. You will build a shelter, palisade, weapons, you will create tools like axes, knives, sacks, you will do everything you can to… to survive. You will have to find food, fight wild beasts, protect yourself from weather changes…
Take the role of one of four characters from the ship crew (cook, carpenter, explorer or soldier) and face the adventure. Use your determination skills to help your team mates, discuss with them your plan and put it into practice. Debate, discuss, and work on the best plan you all can make.
Search for treasures. Discover mysteries. Follow goals of six different, engaging scenarios. Start by building a big pile of wood and setting it on fire to call for help, and then start new adventures. Become an exorcist on cursed Island. Become a treasure hunter on Volcano Island. Become a rescue team for a young lady who’s stuck on rock island…

I thought I REALLY wanted that Collector’s edition of it but I ended up buying a holiday bundle for Shadows of Brimstone. Hope everyone getting Robinson Crusoe enjoys it!
I like this format, but I think i'd like it better if you had cutaways to gameplay moments or if you used components to illustrate what you're talking about.
Of course you should play it! Currently, my number 1 game! Can't wait for the book of adventures.
The pledge manager opened up on Gamefound today and I'm $217 in on a $45 game 😅 Its not everyday a game this renowned gets a collectors edition. That 4 mission tutorial developed by the same person behind the Jaws of the Lion intro, the additional companions and support items, that book of adventures which breaks down difficulty and target audience, a 44" playmat, and a layered player board made this all too good to pass up.
Just got into RC. I'm already obsessed and went in for a lot of the gamefound camapign. It's a roguelike in a boardgame and worth checking out for anyone that is a roguelike fan.
Your testimony echoes my experience. I wrote this off. Friend picked it up and we tried it a few days ago and I was REALLY surprised how much I liked it. Despite the Euro roots this is a surprisingly rich thematic adventure game. Thanks for the video !

OMG you have voiced all of my concerns! Literally the same - just got into board games about 1,5 years ago. Got Robinson coz of all the hype. Since then got even the 2 expansions: Treasure Chest and Mystery Tales. All of them still sit on my shelf as I was just too intimidated by it all. Now the campaign is almost over and I am still thinking if or which pledge I should pick up... Uffffff..... hehehehe

Already backed the collector's edition, will be nice to bring it to the table with the kids so they'll prepare for the cold reality of the world ;) It should be a nice stepping stone towards Frostpunk and eventually KDM when they are much older
I bought it around the holidays before I knew the collectors was coming. I don't regret the purchase, while the mini's help the table presence I'm only looking at getting the Book of Adventures and the neoprene playmat when those are available at retail or on Portal Games website. But if you don't own it already then the collectors "all in" is a lot of extra stuff and a good value in my opinion.
Dang between this and Marvel Champions I am just super jealous that you're getting to experience these amazing games for the first time! I remember my first play of RC with friends and we *barely* won the intro scenario, and were totally immersed the whole time, sweating over die rolls and whatnot. SO GOOD
I picked it up because of the current crowdfunding project. Got it to the table and I'm pretty sure it's going to get into my top 20 and possibly even top 10 over time. It's brutal but not frustrating while doing it. I'll be upgrading my copy but now I need to figure out just how far I'm going.

But seriously. I love this game. I also got this in my early forays into hobbiest gaming. Only time I ever won a scenario was because I got a rule wrong, yet I still love this game.
I got this game years ago and never played it because I didn't understand the rulebook. I had the first edition. I never figured out how to play the game until I watched playthroughs of it. The rules are just that badly written. I'm glad I did learn how to play it, though, it's really fun. I'm at the point where I can win every time.

@@Quackalope Yeah I assumed as much. I’m sure your backlog is ridiculous but it’s kind of the same if you covered Pantheon and the core mechanisms.

I love the game but don't feel the need for the plastic miniatures. I like the aesthetic is already has. The book of adventures however has me really excited

The campain is in all the language but french and i am wandering how language dependant it is

there is quite a lot of text but not much. and it is written in quite an easy to follow english

Your discussion of the player counts is confusing. If this was your impressions from a first play with 2, your anti-3/4 player opinion seems strong to me.
I just finished one solo game and would have a hard time making a claim about more players.
Also devils advocate, the comment regarding why you would avoid more players is also thematically a good reason to have it, as that strain on figuring out what to do and a leader emerging is realistic to being stranded on an island (I imagine) but in the sense of having the most fun for everyone playing the point is well made.

This campaign is not for BigBox. Portal is not planning BigBox for now, because they still want to expand this game. What this campaign is for is a big box of plastic instead.
Not really. There is tons of other content other then minis. Just look at all the added stretch goals. New scenarios, new cards, scenario book, tutorial book that baby steps you into the game, etc.
@@chadsweatt9648 It is a campaign for "collector's edition" and not for big box / storage solution for the base game with addons. Am I really wrong here? Isn't main content of that box "the plastic"? Without stretch goals, what resides there, other than figurines, is only that introductory campaign, which isn't required for anyone who already plays this game. When you count stretch goals in, then you also know that you have to pay even more for a complete collector's edition, or during your game you will have to use components of different quality. Nevermind though, as I didn't want to write my review of that edition or whole campaign here. I only commented that Quacky said that it's a big box, while it differs from what usually a big box edition of a board game is. It's just revamped base edition of the game, filled with figurines (which some might start to dislike during their plays as tokens feel far more natural) and additional campaign for those starting adventure with this game.

@@WolfanTerror First thing, you're the first person that says that it will fit expansions. Even Portal people said, it won't (and what I wrote there are their words actually, maybe slightly rephrased). Maybe you know better than them. Second - Book of Adventures is a separate thing. Not a part of the Collector's Edition. So yes, I'll stick to my "just a box full of useless plastic" opinion.
@@chadsweatt9648 Scenario book is not part of the Collector's Edition of the game. Don't mix the two things up. Those are two separate things, for the same game, released in a single promotional campaign.
So yes, tutorial book is there from the beginning (no SG).
Next the stretch goals:
- plastic,
- dice tower,
- mini expansion that I have small problem with, but ok, let's say that any expansion is good,
- more plastic (at least it's cute) + 10 cards, that happens 3 times so I won't repeat,
- even more plastic,
- triple layered player boards, but only for the base game,
- 10 card expansion,
- 3 weather tiles + 10 cards,
- two O.o first player markers.
In total 50 cards + 3 weather tiles + player boards + mini expansion + loads of expensive plastic, that turns it into a heavy box of Collector's Edition. I agree, it's a "deluxe" thing, but most of the contents there are purely useless from my perspective. Plastic figurines don't fit every single game and I wouldn't want them in this one. That's why I was sad, that instead of making a "useful deluxe edition" or an actual big box / storage solution for the base game + expansions, they went for what they did and obviously I did not decide to purchase that edition, but I did purchase the book, since while still quite expensive, it's worth far more than this box (ofc, for owners of this game).
This is too punishing and random to be enjoyable for me - it is putting out raging fires the game. Having limited time to play games, spending 2 hours suffering through the game beating you down with mostly random bad stuff happening is frankly a waste. And I really like coops, this one just didn't do it for me.
