    Hallelujah !! Finally someone else fishing braid on a multiplier. I fish a SLOSH 20 with braid, everyone say I'm mad, but I never had an issue. I fish rock edges and skeers in Northumberland so not power casting, just short libs of 50 to 70 yards. Nice video brother, tight lines, neil

      Lol, I come from Blyth but now live in NZ, cut my teeth on Blyth beach. A mate took me out recently for a fish and he nearly feinted when I pulled out my Abu 6500 loaded with braid and fired lures all over the place with no dramas. Happy days!

    Ive been using braid about 20 years now on multipliers and fixed spools, i love it and have never gone back to mono, ive only ever used berkley whiplash 100lb straight through, knot to rig body is always doubled up slipknot making a small loop at the end of the line, can either pass that through the eye of swivel or rig clip a couple of times or tie another 4 turn slip knot (with 8 lines in it due to being doubled up) If ive ever got a crack off its nearly always the swivel
    ig body that breaks. Its expensive to start with to buy but the rigs\leads you save and reel in from having that extra strength saves so much money in the long run, not to mention the pro's of using braid already discussed. Ive not had any troubles casting it, but that maybe down to this specifc braid as it appears to have a waxed layer over it. Love the channel btw Billy, one of the best on the tube, tight lines.

      @@Billyfishing_watch Hi Billy, hope ya well. In your video you explain the braid must be wound on under tension but what happens if I were to lose the business end of the line, weight etc. Would it be the case that it would have to be rewound back in the same way, say when I got back home, un spool it then wind it back on under tension. Thanks in advance, Graham.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Graham, no it's ok, just apply tension with your fingers instead and keep winding, and if you pull for a bark don't point the rod at the sang and pull the line will dig in to the spool and it will cark off the next cast, pull for a bark with a pulling stick, hope this answers your question Brother 👍😊

    Hi Billy great tutorial video as always mate I use 80lb 4 strand braid mainline and 18ft of 70lb mono rubbing/shock leader with a 4-7 turn grinner and 4 half hitches, and with the mono tag end I blob it with a lighter before synching it tight then cut tagend of braid close down then fold it back along the knot then apply a drop of stupid glue as I call it, as I kept glueing my fingers together with it hence the name stupid glue. Tight line's, fish on and carry on brother... Oh and it's just a single grinner I use.

    Thanks for referring me to this gem of a video Billy.
    How do you know you’re putting 150m of top shot on and that it’s all going to fit perfectly without loading it backwards onto an identical reel first? Or is this just down to experience knowing what 150m looks like on your own reel?
    Also might be a silly question but why is 80lb rig body only 40lb if you’re tying it to a swivel? And I guess that’s why you wouldn’t use 100lb; because you don’t want to break your braid and lose all that line.
    Thanks once again Billy! And leave some fish for the rest of us mere mortals will ya! 😂

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Christopher. 80 becomes 40, because of the knot! The knot cuts itself at about half the strength of the line. And you're just going to have to guess for now how to get 150 m offline onto your real for the start. I'm going to do a video on it future.

    • @christopherryan2628
      @christopherryan2628 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @billyfishing_watch that makes sense, so the “backing” to normal line is roughly 100% strength because the BF knot isn’t cutting itself whereas a normal knot to a swivel is.
      I look forward to the new video as I’ve always wondered how much backing to use on reels when guessing.
      Thanks ones again and tight lines in Norway!

    Been very tempted to give braid a go on my Penn Fathoms, but always shy'd away from it, due to being told it can cut right down into itself, causing problems casting, and possibly damaging the reel.
    But might give it a go out of curiosity, and just go gentle as far as casting goes to start with.
    Am guessing will be better going for a 0.32 (ish) diameter, rather than 15-18lb BS like i do mono lines? Also a stronger leader than 80lb due to the no stretch?

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi KF, there is no problems with that, just as long you keep the line tight when you are spooling. If you can snagged up when fishing, don't pull for a break the old way. Just rap the line around a stick and pull, this way the line will not dig in to the spool, follow this link for a quick example of what I mean. Thanks Brother 👍😁

    Hi Billy..I love using braid... since I switched from mono a lot of anglers don't recommend it to me because of its lack of stretch but that doesn't bother me, and once you get used to braid it's an absolute godsend. The only time I use mono is say like 30lb mlstraoggt through close in for conger..anything to do with casting it has to be hraid.. I use 8 strand bit is 8 strand better for bottom shot with 4 strand top shot and 120lb leader??

    • @Billyfishing_watch

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only use the eight strand bottom shop for Norway, because of the depth of water in some places. For example, sometimes the water is 250 m deep. And then it's nice if you can get 450 m onto your reel. 4 strand braid, is more abrasion resistant. But has a higher diameter than 8. I always use four strand for leaders, because of his abrasion resistance. 👍

      @@Billyfishing_watch When you are using 50lb braid 8 strand in the UK do you still use the same method of using a longer bottom shot ie backing then 150m or so of 8 strand top shot to a leader or just one shot of 50lb straight through to a leader. Your method in the video makes sense as regardless weather you use a 150m or 300m of top shot it is cheaper in the long run to just replace the top shot and do not really need to touch the bottom shot?

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi . The 8 strand goes only on the bottom! 4 strand go on top! You will not be able to cast otherwise. I fish that way because the water is so deep in places in Norway! You will have no use for that in the UK. If you're trying to save money, just put some monofilament under the 4;strand.👌

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi bud. You always make the loop in the heavier line, so the lighter line can tie around it. This way it will not cut itself. If you tie to a heavier line around the light line, cut itself! Or just slide off the end! Hope this helps. Thanks Brother 😁👌

    • @Billyfishing_watch

      Hi Gavin. In the video I refer to the backing as a bottom shot. This is because it's fishing line that I use. The line is 50 pound eight strand, 0.25. this way I can get over 300 meters of line on the reel. Sometimes I fish really deep water, 200 to 300 meters deep. Awesome to see how people from a different background fish, your hybrid irish south african style has drastically influenced my fishing style:) But I will fight you on the 100% knot :P there physically cant be a 100% knot. Even the FG isn't a 100% knot and your BF knot doesnt beat the FG in terms of knot strength.
    Also I think you are too pessimitic, a good knot from a mono line to a swivel isn't 50% line strength, it's way above that.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi bud. Glad you enjoyed the videos, and I really appreciate your support. But the debate about 100% knots is just a difference in the way you look at it. For instance, assuming the mechanics of a knot are 100%! For example, the knot was tied properly, designed properly. Then there is no issue with the knots. So there is but one entity left! The fishing line. My point is, there's no such thing as fishing line without a fault somewhere in it. And they're the problem lies, it's not the knot 🤣 and your statement about my not is knot is not as strong an FG, this also depends on who ties it. I have tested it and it is! On my statement about a knot being only 50% the strength of the main line, I did say around! The videos have to be as short and to the point as possible. Thanks Brother 😁👌

The main line is 50lbs ,and to keep the integrity of the main line, the leader knot needs to be ,what is referred to as ,a 100% knot, the bf knot is mine. So the rig can only be tied with a standard knot, the leader needs to be more than double the strength of the main line, because a standard knot, breaks at about half the strength of the of the line. We good, thanks Brother 👍😁

      The leader has to be braid , because mono do not work well with braid, it makes wind Knots 👍

      @@Billyfishing_watch Thanks for taking the time to reply Billy. I mainly fish on beaches atm but I’m going to start fishing more rough ground marks so I’m going to give your setup a go. Keep up the hard work Billy, Tight lines brother!

    why 8 strand as backing instead of just 4 strand all the way and tie one less knot?

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ashy. The reason is, some times I fish in over 100m of water, And the 8 strand is much thinner then 4 strand, And if I then cast a 100m or more, I will have no line left on the spool. Also when I replace line, I only have to replace the top line which is cheaper. Hope this helps you out, thanks bud👍😁

    Hi Billy, thanks for sharing the knowledge. Funny enough I recently chucked some 30lb braid on my FS and Multi reels and tied them straight on to 50lb shockleader... Now I see why this isn't possible after about 6 break-off when casting 😅😅😅. So you use a braided shockleader aswell with the Braided mainline from what I understand..? Is it possible to use a mono shockleader if the mainline is thicker and 4 strand such as as 50 to 100lb braid 4 strand mainline to say 50-80lb mono shockleader? Just thinking perhaps mono has the superior abrasion resistance and some serious shelves and gulley's where I've been fishing lol 😄

      This set up is designed for pendulum casting with multipliers. I have had absolutely no problem fishing rough ground with it. If the ground is really heavy, I tie 60 cm of 80 lb mono onto the end as a rubbing leader. Most of the time the rig body takes the damage. I show the benefits of the knots in the video and explain why this set up is compatible to a 100 lb 4 or 8 strand braid set up. With this set up most of the time the rig body breaks instead of the leader or the main line.

    KOOL knot looks a bit like a modified Albright knot

      Hi Devilboy, I did use the modified Albright, but it did not hold up to the punishment, so if you want a job doing do it yourself, thanks Brother 👍😁

      You'd recommend 4 strand over 8 strand for casting?
