Loved watching the guy kick starting wearing flip flops and shorts. Same way I did my 1983 FXWG in the Philippines. I didn't get my electric start fixed until I retired from the Navy.
This mans knowledge is priceless!!... I love all the videos and love all the work you do. We all need to appreciate the knowledge this man has and is teaching us along the way because he is only 1 of a few that have the brains and workmanship this man has and like I said it’s priceless!.
After watching this build from beginning to end, I have to say. There were a lot of great tips, in your words of wisdom! But you need to turn up the volume so every one can hear what you have to say, or just speak up! People may think that this bike was a real pain in the ass to work on, but I find that this is about normal. They all seem to want a little extra special attention. Great videos! You gave out a lot of great information, for any one working on these bikes.
This has been a terrific series of videos to watch, Mr.Tatro is very experienced and knowledgeable, the overhauled bike is a credit to him. Good to see he actually fastened his helmet when test riding the bike. The bike sounds superb on tickover too. Not sure about the reality of riding any distance with ape hangers though !
Very Cool Build You Made That Bike What it is and it was a Very Cool build on TH-cam Very Cool You Do Killer Work You Made That What It Is ! Thanks For Showing Your Brains
its all about how you take care of it or beat the crap out of it. next is how you put it together and after that its all about the quality of the parts. when i ride them they don't last very long at all. when the customers ride them they last for many years. tatro
I just had my 83 shovel motor duel plugged. I have a HI-4N ignition. The Issue is the ignition has 3 wireThe coils are Dynatech. How do i wire it into the coils
This was an awesome rebuild series- thanks very much for posting this! Question: I know you said you guys were just fixing the motor up for the summer, and then it would be fixed right over the winter.. But, it looks like you did a quality rebuild! With the exception of the valves (I got the sense you'd have preferred to use tighter clearances, new valve springs, etc.) what else will need to be done to make this a better rebuild?
the heads had to be redone later on. cheap valves are not the way to go. it just cost more down the road. i did enough for the motor to last at least another 5 years. it probably will last more. three years into it now and still going strong. tatro
it all depends on how you ride the bike and how it was built. most of the time the shorter the stroke the longer ans=d smoother the motor will be. this changes depending on how hard you ride. a big motor at low throttle settings will out live a smaller motor that is always at high throttle settings. tatro
hi Mr Tatro ! eric from France , one question , For this repair how much money must it expect in total ? Greeting from France, and a big fan of your work eric
I have 72/FLH not a stroker but would love to find out cost. I was kicking it one morning owned it about a month this is 30 years ago. I kicked wasn't awake yet. And it tossed me over handle bars. I'm 6-2 200 pounds plus didn't have proper footwear. Took over month to stop limping around. So when you think your the boss. Bike will tell you. Have your fun but you WILL RESPECT ME. Have great live
that is because you never learned proper kicking technique. you always let you weight just do the pushing to turn the motor over. i was kicking over 98ci stroker motors when i was only 130 pounds so you had to learn how to do things correctly or it never turned over. when you start kicking over sportsters you learn that you never straight leg you kicking style or you will break your knee from hyperextension. that goes for being tossed over the handlebars too. tatro
how many bikes do you own ?, I've owned 27 Harleys from pans on up and 30 or so others I'm 64. keep the videos coming or ill actually have to do work at my retirement job
a petcock has three settings. one is off and two are on. the main feed on position is on but with a higher feed hole. when the gas level comes down to that feed hole you run out of gas. the 2nd feed hole or reserve is at the bottom of the tank and gets the last of the gas in the tank. if you are smart you will go get some gas before the 2nd feed hole runs dry. if not, you are walking. tatro
Tatro Machine looks great, sounds mean as hell. You got the right cam, right on the money. Big cam and high compression dialed in to perfection, music to my ears!

Finally some one who has the idle to somthing manageable.
Why would it matter I ideal mine low I like the sound of it low if it breaks I’ll tear it down and rebuild it
Enjoyed every minute of the rebuild ,and learned a lot , and not a swear word , patience of a saint, thanks.
Best sounding harley I have heard ...looks killer too ....perfection 🙌
Amazing! Bringing that dead horse back to life!
Every aspect of that machine.......touched by your hand...
it wasn't dead. dad built that motor to last. it just needed a little tune up after 20+ years of abuse.
tatro
After finding this video on TH-cam I fell in love with the bike and definitely must get me a hotrod shovelhead flh
Much more rewarding to watch after getting through the whole rebuild process

I love that bike. I can hear the floorboards scraping the ground now.
Sounds really good Tatro, one of the best sounding Shovelheads I've heard!
I love the paint!
five stars for the obnoxious fishtails. the only pipes that can be heard over drag pipes coming from behind you. fishtails rule!
Fun build!!
Enjoyed watching.

Damn that thing sounds mean
that is what a real good hot street motor should sound like.
tatro
How many miles will a proper built 93 or 98 shovelhead last before needing freshened up

@@TatroMachinehow’s it going all the years later
Sounds so good. Sounds like freedom and liberals crying
primo 👍🏽
what's your opinion on the longevity / mileage on this motor as opposed to a 93 ci build assuming each one was maintained properly
it all depends on how you ride the bike and how it was built. most of the time the shorter the stroke the longer ans=d smoother the motor will be. this changes depending on how hard you ride. a big motor at low throttle settings will out live a smaller motor that is always at high throttle settings.

wish there was a builder around here in Michigan like you. they are very few and far in between
Nothing sounds like a shovel
Beautiful
The bike is gorgeous except for the handle bars....
Sweet.
Never have idle to low top end needs oil as well am not saying it to low just a tip .
What would you recommended as for as jet sizes for the main and intermediate, on a 93 inch shovel with drags, with an s&s super e
start with a 31 72 and test from there. way to many unknowns to know what you need.

Bice super🔥💣👍
Lol nice sandals
hi Mr Tatro ! eric from France ,
one question ,
For this repair how much money must it expect in total ?
Greeting from France, and a big fan of your work
eric
easily more than the bike is worth unless you really want the bike. this was his fathers old bike so he really wanted it fixed.
tatro
Who the fuck kick starts any bike with sandels on

that depends on what you call a bike. if i have a frame and a set of cases i am good to go.
tatro
nice
What does it mean when the gas is on reserve? I appreciate all your videos!
a petcock has three settings. one is off and two are on. the main feed on position is on but with a higher feed hole. when the gas level comes down to that feed hole you run out of gas. the 2nd feed hole or reserve is at the bottom of the tank and gets the last of the gas in the tank. if you are smart you will go get some gas before the 2nd feed hole runs dry. if not, you are walking.

Fuck yeah
you gonna do some kinda special video when you hit 10k subscribers?
what? like close my doors.
tatro
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!
I never liked the sound of fishtails... they make everything sound like a clapped out farm truck. The same goes with Brooklands cans.
I think you need higher bars.
I want that bike
Thats bad when trying to stsrt your own bike mechanic says dont flood it start it i also have 72 i wish mine sounded like that peace
that is what a big ass cam does with all the other good parts too.
tatro
Is that a stock front fender?
What size is front wheel?
21" wheel and stock front fender.
tatro
Tatro Machine looks great, sounds mean as hell. You got the right cam, right on the money. Big cam and high compression dialed in to perfection, music to my ears!
What would that motor work cost to do
good work cost and some cost more than others.
tatro
Tatro machine...shovelhead Jesus
Tunning was right when it sounded out of tune lol
whats the name of the seat?
Fishtails sound like garbage, maybe it’s just the video.
Tatro rides a chromed out shovel... lol
How did he get that sound pleazers ploze someone tell meee
that is what a race motor sounds like with open fishtail pipes. big ass cams are great.
tatro
u do nice work, want to do my 77 stock flh up ,give me a shout,u can have the job
i will pass. too much work to do now with all these panheads in the shop.
tatro
Someone knows the Instagram for more pics or videos?... It's awesome....
Nice but not a fan of those handlebars
monster
Nice bike, but the apehangers and the front wheel/tire are a bit much.
that is why it is his bike and not yours. i like the motor part.
tatro
If it were mine, I'd put stock bars and a stock front wheel on it.
is it for sale?
bike no, other junk maybe. with enough money we can build you one.
tatro
Da in flip-flops 🤣
