Looks like the old shop to me. I just watched something interesting related to V-8 cams. You can run an adjustable drive gear to adjust the cam (not ignition) timing. The reasons for this is because something as simple as valve grind angle can have a big impact on flow (30 deg. high flow. 55 deg. low flow). A cam out of the box has no idea of the head configuration, therefore custom cam timing is advantageous. It wouldn't be tough to manufacture an adjustable cam gear for Twin Cams and M8s. I don't think it would be possible (or just too much hassle) on Evos and back. What are your thoughts, Keenan?
the cam is the brain of the motor. it tell the motor how it is going to run. if all the other parts match than you get what you want. when the parts do not match, than you have to play around to get the best out of what you have. this is why i match the cam and other parts to what the customer thinks they want. you see in my videos all the time that i talk about what the customer wants and what parts they have now or will have to change to make everything match up the best for their combination. as for making adjustable cam drives on harley motors. harleys have a very highly loaded drive system with a lot of back and forth movement as the motor runs. this will and does tear up most drive systems. making them weaker will just cause more problems. now for what can be done. most all cam drive gears on those older junk motors made before 2000 are pressed on and there are tools that allow you to make changes. as for the early twincam motor, there use to be fixed adjustable cam drive crank gears. these are no longer available and noting was made for the later motors that i know of. its all on you to buy the correct parts to make the motor do what you want out of it. its all about the combination. tatro
all the these jobs you will be seeing over the next year i have had here for years now. if i want to show the complete job like i want too than you get to see the old videos again too. it sure was nice to have all my stuff and room to work too. but there is no place like being at home again. tatro
