Had a 1980 ironhead it’s still riding (gave it to my sister) have a evo and the engine blow out at 30,000 ! People say a lot about AMF but they are tough motors.
I bought a brand new FLH 1200 in 1980 in Australia. I bought the 1200 because the 80ci had alloy wheels, and I wanted spokes. it was a smart move because all the 80ci engines seized the rear cylinder whenever they got hot. Originally the 1980 FLH did not have a hinge in the rear fender and had 1200 in the fender tips.
+HuntingHarleys thats right AMF invested in the tooling that was used to build the Evo! As for the new machines they arent that hard to work on. I graduated from MMI in 94 and have taken many factory update classes since. Im not a big fan of the TC motor though. I see a lot of bikes coming into our shop with shifted flywheels. Lots of electrical snafus as well. Moslty due to cheap Chinese made parts.
Funny how times change ,80s none of my friends wanted a bagger they came with geritol and a cane. We stripped them 'just like this too. FAST forward now baggers are pulling wheelies and everwhere.
yea , just picked an 89 heritage , and i started "parting it down" to clean , and its true , each part you take off , ( bags, sissy bar , backrest , lug rack ,windsheild , it looks better and better, didnt want to put back on , but ol lady gave me those puppy dog eyes when i replied " think im gonna ride it stripped for a while , so i told her the "backrest go s on real easy dear dont worry" and my rebel days were over in bout a half a week , but , its starting to get cool here in memphis so i
prices range all over the map on this stuff. it is a matter of what it is worth to you at the moment. you might pay anywhere from $2000 to $15,000. the model of a 1970's or 1980's is in the VIN and motor number.
my name is paolo, i'm your subscriber to your you tube channel. you have some beautiful harleys. compmenti ... I have 2 harley shovelhead flh 1980 and a heritage springer 1997
I just picked up a 1981 FLH Shoveled. Paint is only two years old,all chromed out ! All I have to do now is remove the bags, put fish tail pipes on,and get rid of the windshield. 5,000
I bought a 79 74 CI FLH in Longview Texas brand new and was told then that 79 was the last year for a 74. I never saw a 1200 after 79 anyway. Apparently that was the wrong info. Mine was fire engine red and had spoke wheels. It was a good bike.
what size bars are those. love the bike and style I have a 94 FLSTN looking to get some taller bars and debating height. so just for a reference. I love this look bare minimum cruiser, people forget there're bikes not cars sometimes.
I got a 1980 80ci Super Glide shovel head, but that's a Bad Ass FLH brotha. I'd riiiide the hellouta her just the way she is, with the addition of my throw over leather bags.
Hey Todd, any idea what the 2 tone color option was on this motorcycle, I can't find a 2 tone option for 1980, would it being a police issue have anything to do with that. Love the color and tank decal. Having trouble finding a factory picture of one like this. Thanks!!
@@HuntingHarleys I see, that makes sense now, thanks! Gonna be in the market for a later year FLH shovel before long. Really wanting to find one similar to this or the 1977 FLH "California custom" you had. Don't mind spending the money for a nice motorcycle, just slim pickins being from Kentucky. Any tips or locations on finding a nice one?
if your ever in Phoenix Az check out LOVE CYCLES! Jeremiah doesnt touch any HD made after 1984. Strictly an ol skool shop specialising in ol skool choppers and bobbers.
hiway choppers and bobs cycle are about the only other good shops here in Phx of you have anything old. Ramjet Racing is OK. Seems to be a Red and White supporter so thats all good!
Cool. Sounds like you been around brotha. Hiway choppers is different these days. They sold a bunch of bikes to Jay leno and now they act brand new. They are only open Tuesday through Friday and they don't open until ten AM. now. They only take in three bikes at a time and you have to make an appointment. Oh yea they won't work on a sporty anymore either!
I know this is an old vid and you may not answer but how tall are you? I ask because I am 5'9 and I have 6" risers with 10" minis and the Bars on this Bike seem to put your hands about where I want mine to be.
@@HuntingHarleys very reasonable, I may contact you next time, I have a 99 fatboy that I'm getting to my taste, however im always looking im out of California..keep up the good work..
HuntingHarleys Beautiful. Definitely one of the best looking and sounding shovel heads I’ve seen in a while. Bikes like this definitely have a big influence on the way I’m building my dyna.
2:38 “as bad as it looks” my friend that bike is beautiful!!

I really believe that the shovelhead is the best sounding of all of HD motors !!!!
Hmmm really possible...🤘

More and more fantastic historic motorcycles congratulations ! 🤘
It's like a drum kit orchestra beautiful. But definitely deafening wow
I bought a used 1975 shovel head super glide while a sophomore in high school. Those were fun days!
Perfect example of what a Harley Davidson should be, unlike the mechanics nightmares of today. Sometimes I think AMF was'nt so bad anyhow.
jeff brown AMF saved Harley, no AMF so Harley Davidson

Adam Stein, Harley Corporate took over once the Twinky bikes started being made, very sad

glad you enjoy the vids. the TV show powers do not want use as a show. namely, we cannot fake this and that makes their production costs too high
Another thing about the 1980 FLH. The fuel tanks were different than the 1981. In 1980 they sat lower over the engine.

I love these vids. You should have a show on Velocity or the Speed channel. No doubt it would be a hit.
Absolutely love this bike. Anybody know what length fishtails those are?
Love this bike. Thanks for sharing.
Damn I want one that's a untouchable dream
Nice find on 53 pan,2,600 miles like the silver color, still around?.... 😯

Most civilian big twins 79 to 81 were 80 inch, most cop bikes, most FXEs and most FXEFs were 1200
Camera was fuckin with me. Looked like he was moving the handlebars back and fourth. Thought I was having an acid flashback
not sure on Cali law. years ago had to be at shoulder height. I think the cops are just not enforcing the law here anymore

nice, look into the rollers for the lifter's. often this is your 'knock'

bloody nice bike !

Slim pickings everywhere, watch craigslist and ebay
not by maker no, there are many companies who make a similar seat. Lapera is one
that one has found a new home sometime ago
hi, I don't have enough good ones for the bikes I am doing. They are getting hard to find
Hey Todd..... typically how high are the ape hangers on a "California Custom"?
12 or 14 inches?
those are 18's or 20's, I didn't measure.

Hiway takes care of Buddy Stubbs classic collection do i guess they don't need the money. IDK.

Any idea what kinda seat that is? I really like it
Looks like a Bar Enterprises seat

5 foot 9 also. But my top end is taller then my short legs and that matters
sounds like it then
I love this bike..
do you know what seat setup is on that?
I Notice You Kick The Gear Down To First ? I Thought You Kicked It Up To First ?
Todd. What's the price on your 1980 flh calif. custom. I'm watching the clip now. Ron.
Ron, L O N G gone.
the 1st two "numbers" tell what model. prices on this stuff all over the map, there is no real "bluebook"
you ever sell any of these bikes? in particular this one here?
nearly every bike you see on this channel was sold long ago
Mine is a 78 thanks man
I am looking for a bike like this
Send me an email and price range huntingharleys@gmail.com 661-904-8512
Knowledgeable Guy
Bro, how much are you asking for the '80 'California Custom'? I'm interested.
sold back in 2012 also
I have a 1978 California Custom for sale. email me if interested huntingharleys@gmail.com th-cam.com/video/s4nlF3UDyIc/w-d-xo.html
HuntingHarleys hey bro I'm looking at a 50 el pan with 5 digits in the engine number, is this legitimate? Thanks
I don't see you do any ultra classic. Are you not into them?
Ultra Classic's were not made during the Shovel Years. I've not owned many. Lack of customers for them.
I have a 3g number do u know what year it is
That tells of what type, the year is in the last two. H0 is 1970. H9 is 1979. J0 is 1980
How much would that sell for now?
Around 6 to 8.5k
@@HuntingHarleys cool I didn't overpay haha
@@HuntingHarleys so I'm 6'4" 340.. any suggestions for making my bike not look small and not bottom out on turns? 😆 lol
They make 14 inch shocks. Add 2 inches to the fork too
@HuntingHarleys I thought for sure you were gonna say loose some weight lol what about Rwd rs-1's?
Whats the resale price on a bike like that?
Depends on your location. I sold this around 2012 for 6k
@@HuntingHarleys very reasonable, I may contact you next time, I have a 99 fatboy that I'm getting to my taste, however im always looking im out of California..keep up the good work..

Original frame? Or no?
OEM frame, matching numbers

Anyone can name the colors on this bike ? And what year they were made?
Harley made the FLST and FLSTC in 1986-88 with these colors. HD should be able to provide you with the paint code. Write their historical archives
Thanks! Any harleys FLH for sale at the moment ?
Nothing for some years. People asking double what I can possibly sell for
I had an '88 FLST same by the look of it ' Brandy wine and Crimson ' .
Sweet FLH
is it for sale?
