    CA absolutely fleshed out this faction wonderfully. So many choices that can be made for the long-term, on the fly, and everything in between. I could see lots of replay value with Warriors.

    The Warriors of Chaos now really do feel like a creeping threat. A darkness slowly growing in the North and eventually exploding into an apocalyptic threat to the rest of the world. I think CA did a fantastic job not only fixing and empowering this faction, but also giving it a ton of flavour it was missing.

      I think Chaos invasion in vortex campaign on hard - legendary difficulty is quite an op.12 armies at maximum exp spawned at once!

      @@James-wp2yj CA has been demonstrating throughout Warhammer 2, as well as their response to displeasure w/ Warhammer 3 how little they care for actually giving each faction time and consideration.
      So much basic ass content is DLC, it's so bad that getting half assed FLC lords is seen as an amazing feat by CA.

    Marauders are the backbone of your army, you will be getting lots of them even into late game.
    this part alone told me the entire faction was completely redesigned.

      Don't forget melee units aren't as ass anymore on higher difficulties.

      With the Warband mechanics, it does makes sense though.
      Every time you start an Army, a majority of it is going to come in as Mauraders and stay that way until they Experience Up - buildings/traits/tech/etc that give Experience On Recruit will mitigate that to an extent, but usually you can’t dogpile those until you’re Late Game anyway.

    As per usual, looks like the DLC team have worked their ass off to bring new life to WH3, honestly whatever CA is paying the DLC team as compared to the main team, it clearly isn't enough.

    I can't believe just how flavorful this all is. The idea of a Maurader getting kills and surviving battle, then being promoted/upgraded to the next tier with new equipment and chaos favor to become a chaos warrior. And the side grades...so juicy. This is equivalent to just equiping your units with new gear, outfitting them for the current task at hand, these connects you to your units and army even further. It really feels like a Chaos warband...on the move, gaining new followers, promoting units...just so good. CA god bless you.

    This is incredible, especially the part where you have to upgrade your units step by step by giving them xp. It adds so much value to basic units that you want to level up, and also to the one you managed to fully upgrade. This plus the fact that you have a recruitment pool, loose your units will finally be a real threat instead of just having to rebuild a full stack of the best units in 2 turns bc you just have the good buildings.

      Yeah, upgrading your units from Marauders to Chosen gives it that XCOM kind of vibe where if you look out for your rookies they will look out for you when they've grown up to be proper killing machines. I love it.

      They have pretty much taken the mechanics from Troy's Amazons. Not complaining, they're my favourite faction from Troy.

      The only downside I could see gameplay wise is if you just end up making a terrible decision/get ambushed in a battle where there about no chance to win (unless you send the save to legend)

      @@thebrokenmask8304 This recruitment mechanic makes the game more strategic and also harder. So you may not need to set a high difficulty for the same result. In that case, this situation wouldn't happen as much, the challenge would come from the management of your armies and the way you can get victories form low tier units.

      @@thebrokenmask8304 This enhances the game's realism. Terrible decision terrible losses. You have to be very careful for your good units or experienced units, as well as you are for your heros for example. And THAT is a good thing gameplay wise.

    Make your warriors able to switch weapon is a very useful, logical and welcome change. Hope they add this to more factions, like the dwarf which could be able to upgrade from warriors to long beards or switch btw shield and great weapons.
    Or obviously Bretonnia. You could see your baby knight errants going through knights of the realm and questing knights to become one day strong and proud grail knight !

    The spawn has to be a flavour thing. If they stuff up looks like someone’s going to have a whole lot more legs

      also it might have some actual purpose in the early game before you've gotten all the buffs for Aspiring Champions. they might be pretty decent once you've done a bunch of the research but I hear that they're still pretty bad by default

      It is, on the Table Top there was a mechanic/campaign also called Path to Glory which was based around earning favours and blessings from the chaos gods. Your chosen champion would roll for these blessing and earn more and more mutations and gifts thus increasing his/her powers. The catch was every time you received one these lovely gifts you had to roll a die and if you failed the check your character would be transformed into a chaos spawn.

    This is so much more than I ever expected to be honest. It looks great and also looks like it’s really fleshed out and in depth. Hope that Norsca gets a similar treatment (and a new lord because just 2 is pretty ridiculous)

      @@ethanstine426 because they are one of if not the only race to have not recwived (or have announced) an overhaul. Norsca is the same now as it was shen it was released, and they really do feel like a warhammer 1 race, which is kind of a problem

    I really like how thematic the Chaos "Diplomacy" is, making sure you vassals are useful, while also having to worry about them getting too strong, it just feels like the type of decisions a Chaos Lord should be faced with. Earlier game vassals tended to get themselves killed too easily, betray you while you have an army ready to swat them, or go to war with each other too frequently so having the fortress mechanic definitely makes things better.

    The team that works on Nurgles mechanic don't like to work on Nurgle, I believe.

      Well nurgle doesn’t have many mortal units so not many marked ones with the base game makes sense.
      The real question is why are slaanesh and tzeentch straight upgrades while warriors of nurgle are a side grade? Is poison that valuable? It does feel like they hate nurgle lol

      Poison really is underrated. It is just -15% to dmg output, which is a lot when nearly always applied

    i think a way to make Vassals interesting is to add Missions. Get them territory and they will give you more tribute, or gift you units (that can be added to the Gift Pool. Would be really good for the God Aligned Lords as they could gift you Marked Units)
    Also if a certain level of relationship is reached, you get the ability to control their Faction Leader army as if it were yours.
    This basically still keeps the other LLs the leaders of their faction, but you now get the ability to fully build their army as you please. But only the Faction Leader, this means the AI vassal will use the other armies for its own purposes.
    You can even expand even further and get the ability to use your own money to build their settlements. Basically developing them to your liking.
    Let's say Sigvald fucked up his Settlement Build order. Now if you use your own cash, you can rebuild his settlement for an army that suits your taste, for the AI to recruit those units. Allowing you to customize vassals for certain roles. You can have a vassal that is made for support, or another for solely cannon fodder purposes, or maybe you use one just to help you on sieges, or perhaps this vassal is worthless and you just want the most vassal tribute and build all the Economic Buildings and even some unique vassal buildings that increase Vassal Tribute and Allegiance.
    Would be very Warriors of Chaos like, as they use their vassals more as pawns and their fate is irrelevant.
    Making it very interesting and also making them like you very important.

    I used to think the Aspiring Champions were not that good. But if you get all of those buffs they actually seem to be pretty good. I like that change sense they used to have no place in an army when you could always get a Chosen and it do better.

      They buffed their stats dramatically now too. Before they were meant to be some sort of morale boosting utility unit but were no good in combat. Now they are like monstrous infantry - bigger than normal infantry and very strong in combat, but still will get dragged down by high AP high model squads.

      His magic nerf kinda seems to be making him worse overall. Not sure just how monstrous in melee the gifts and such will make him but the loss of lore of fire for a mixed lore and not even the better spells in those lores is kind of rough.

    oh my god, honestly just the fact they are now a settlement faction makes me happy, that woukd have been enough for me already, nice to see they got the love they needed. Here is to great years and love for the other factions that need it, its gonne be a blast to see them get it.

    I kinda want this upgrade system for all races tbh.. like upgrading a Saurus Warrior to one with shield / later on into a temple guard etc.
    I really hope that atleast some modders could get to work on that

    Wait, so you tried to cheese the siege battle but the A.I. correctly rotated to stop you from doing so, and you ended up winning based off of army losses anyways? You didn't really address it, but I see that as a step in the right direction for the A.I. I know you can still cheese these battles and CA needs to keep working on them, but let's not say stuff like walled settlements are "worse than Warhammer 1 and 2."

    Disagree about the sieges. What we just saw was a big improvement over WH2 where you just sit back and only use your artillery to bomb the city into submission (and they would just idiotically continue putting their infantry up on the walls to be massacred).

      Yes, while the walled sieges are far from perfect, wh1 and wh2 sieges are far worse because they were just painful and boring, you either cheesed the game or went for super grindy fight. Now at least you need to manouver and fight to get a cheesy victory.

      Yeah this looked a lot more interesting than "kill the towers and magic/artillery them until they're pushovers in melee".
      My only concern is with my favorite faction, Dwarfs. With their immobility and artillery dependance, they need chokepoints on a singular capture point in order to survive sieges. Warhammer 3 has much more open layouts with multiple capture points, but maybe the dwarfs will get better defense constructions or more construction points or something to help them control the battlefield to their favor, or their city layouts will just be designed with their strengths in mind.

    I really fail to see what you mean about sieges being worse. That was way better than just spamming magic from outside the walls. Even if you can fuck with the AI with the control points when they have smaller armies that still sounds way more interesting to me.

      Whomever is defending in a siege battle should have the advantage, which hasn’t been true for any of these games. Too many conflicting mechanics (ass ladders and anyone can break down the gates but you need a siege attacker). The walls are just an inconvenience instead of providing any actual impediment to the attacker.
      Making the defender hold two capture points that can easily be taken with any stalking or just really fast unit is super broken. In game two you usually had to inflict army losses which required you to do some amount of fighting, now you can do it with none.
      It’s now even easier for the player to take cities, and it’s now harder for the player to defend them. Literally the opposite of what should have happened

      @@pleasantdemoss3548 I still remember taking hell pit with 0 loses by using one of my bear mounted heros with stalk. Took the main capture point and simply waited till the bar ran to 0.

      Personally though I'm not a huge fan of the randomly building stuff in the middle of battles so I'll probably be using the mod that removes resource point generation.

    can we please get some kind of unit upgrade for all factions? Like Spears to spears with shields etc? That would make ita all so much better as you can keep units longer and well it makes sense...

      It's cool but I think for a lot of factions it should be limited to sidegrading between variants of the same unit, like Empire State Troops, the path to glory is the very thing all Chaos warriors fight for so it should be unique to them.

    I'm excited I am nee to warhammer but a total war vet and have to say the warhammer series is hands down my current favorite. I always thought the warriors of chaos were one of the most interesting stylistically but heard about how underwhelming they were so im happy to see they are getting some love in the IE update

    I like the concept of raising armies to bully vassals, it drives home the ragtag factor of the Warrior of Chaos.
    But doing that makes the faction more exhaustive in regard to "campaign fatigue". You might as well just take over their territory and pacify it for good when you're in the later stage of the campaign. The alternative is that every couple of turns you autoresolve two battles for dominance.
    I think they should implement battles like the forest invasion, where you have a stack VS stack fight with the vassal to bang public order into them and get battle loot.

      I mean tbf, having them as a vassal is stull usefull since for example Kholek gets extra mass and melee damage (or weapon strength idk) for every vassal he owns

      also, with your vassals its a few extra armys you don't have to pay for so when i was in my valkia the bloody playthrough when i was fighting in southern naggarond i kept valkia with my main army in norsca so that i can keep capturing fortresses while my vassals went south and absolutely destroyed the Banshee queen for the coast XD

    Damn, this upgrade mechanic looks so nice. A lot of factions could use it. Maybe not for upgrading but for rearming. Like, Black Orks even have a rule for being prepared for every battle - having anti infrantry, large, AP and shieds. At least having specialized variants and the ability to rearm would be good

    Nurgle and khorne get shafted to be honest. I feel like Mark of nurgle really doesn't need the Melee attack nerf and likewise with khorne and melee defence.

      The Mark of Khorne in tabletop actually felt better compared to what Total War has so maybe they could give something like activating unbreakable every time a khorne-marked unit wins an engagement

    So far from what i've seen the rework looks great, instead of just endless battles and nothing else you're building a literal evil empire, which is fun. While we haven't seen it specifically i'm going to take a wild guess that god specific LL factions like Festus and Valkia get bonuses to their god specific units with penalties to opposing ones (valkia gets bad slannesh units, azazle gets bad khorne units) so far it looks great though, wish they made sigvalds 3d portait look less bad though

    The extra abilities and stuff that the aspiring champions get seems so nice! I wish they did something similar for other units and in other races! Like you said Legend, it really IS a way to flesh out and make infantry more viable and interesting, and I am all for it! I love me some variation, and using all missile troops can get stale, so this update with the WoC seems like a breath of fresh air and I love it!

    It would be interesting if they would implement that upgrade mechanic also into other factions. Like in Empire, Swordsman unit could be trained and promoted into longswords, spearmans to halberds, etc.

    I feel the walled siege actually demonstrated that the AI has improved in those quite a bit from the early days. I remember having the entirety of a settlement's defenders trying to stop my army climbing ladders as Skarbrand went around the side and took the capture points without contest. It's still not as good as other systems, but at least they prioritise the units inside the walls over the units still coming in now. Overall I find the rework of Chaos Warriors nice, but not world changing like the Beastmen rework.

      @@laurie1183 The AI in Med 2 was not good, stop pretending Med 2 is the end all, be all of Total War. In terms of sieges it was incredibly predictable, would do the exact same thing every battle, and got away with it because essentially every city was designed to look the same way. I like Med 2 but we have to admit it's an old game, doesn't hold up to modern standards.

      @@Ratzo123ify And Warhammer is better how exactly? Medieval 2 would at least try and skirmish if it could. Warhammer AI will literally stand and receive under arrow fire. It's also the case that every single total war ai will completely lose its mind if you don't just attack with one unified force.
      Medieval 2 is by no means perfect. It's unbalanced, clunky, the pathing needs work, and it looks as old as it is. But in terms of what it has it is still significantly better than every other total war game. It doesn't have a stupidly reliable auto resolve that makes fighting pointless like Rome 2 or Warhammer 1. It doesn't have an AI that's so cowardly it will only attack with overwhelming advantage like Warhammer 2 - heavily incentivising aggressive play on low difficulty and cheese on high difficulty. It's sieges aren't fucking terrible like every other total war game. The lack of regeneration for units pushes the player to take more care of their forces and play varied armies unlike Warhammer where there's always an optimized build and you're kneecapping yourself by not doing it. It's significantly more moddable than any of the Warhammer games so there's way more content. It's like a tenner on sale unlike Warhammer where to play all the content you're looking at needing to invest upwards of £200.

    26:30 The whole "Other factions wardeccing your vassals"-shit really has to go. This is the main reason why Nakai has been just god-damn awful for all these years.
    If a faction has a problem with my vassals, they should have to look to me and the relation they have with me (and MOSTLY me, no simple average of both relations pls) instead.
    Why do we have to rely on super brittle mods to fix this basic design issue, CA? There is already "great power"-penalty as a gamey mechanic to punish players from becoming too powerful, this would totally suffice to make players with lots of vassals catch more heat.

    Is it possible to upgrade/downgrade damaged units? And if so, do the new units come in damaged, or at full HP?
    If they're added with full HP, I can imagine circumstances where you might be left with a very badly damaged army, and in order to win a battle, you might need to downgrade the aspiring champions to spawn.
    If the new units are added damaged, though, then there's probably no reason to ever actually use that option, and it's just been added for lore reasons.

    Another issue with vassals is they lose their ai bonuses and ai enemies will almost always roll over them. But this is also true of both types of alliances.

      not true for alliances. people suspected it, but it was never the case. the ai can simply be very dumb

      @@HeavyMetalGamingHD do you have evidence of this? Because it definitely didn't used to show the stat bonuses for alliance in battles. And any AI factions you have an alliance with definitely do not get the aggressive nature that your primary threats get.

      @@happytime6045 ah you mean in battle. then you are correct. But they don't lose cheats in warhammer 3 and they are equally aggressive/passive for me. I have throt as millitary ally and he is on of the strongest factions currently. I did not support him at all. I only took out kislev, because they also attacked me. he is currently causing devastaton for the remaining elector counds and karl franz.
      I am on very hard so cheats play a big role

    It's puzzling that you can't get all Chaos Warrior variants' Marked version and that there's no direct way to sacrifice souls to the Gods, but other than that this looks like a solid job. Looking forward to playing it two weeks from now.

    Idk why, but I love taking all the iron deposits around the map in the recent patch, and just watch as my chaos warriors mow through most things, and just the chaos warriors, upgrading them almost basically nukes their potential, unless the bonus carries over to champions but haven't entirely noticed.
    Still wish I knew wtf "My fortress" did in the opening eye event.
