what is the reason for the kinghts stopping at the end of the second measure? Is it just a tradition/status thing?

In one of the pieces of text that I include from the treatise that pause is for the knight to survey the battlefield. I'm also going to do experiments with the intantry continuing to step but thr knight pausing, which will cause the knight to fall a bit behind the infantry.
