In what context do you think this would be followed in a tournament context? I get having drumming in martial contexts, for ordering and such, but can't myself work out how this would be needed in a tournament. Thanks for your reconstruction Jeff!

My assumption is pretty much just for gallantry while entering, etc. The author talks a lot about techniques for both the drummer and knight to stay on beat, so it must have been important in that setting. Pistofilo also mentions that knights should move as they would while dancing. Given that both dances and tournaments would be social functions, I see it in a similar fashion, this also just has some martial context. Thanks for the question!
