This is actually a great piece of history. It captures the hope of the year 2000, and the 2000's from the people of the 90's. It's a dead shame they didn't get the perfect world they imagined, but this song captures that hope, and keeps it alive for us, to enjoy in their hope more than 20 years on.

Every generation of great musicians made music about hope for a better world/future. Unfortunately none of them got their wish. That being said, long live this song forever, one of my all time favorite songs

@ag2407 dead shame really. Every generation thought they were the difference that needed to be made until the change was too late. Glad that we can all experience the music that our past generations listened to through their lives though. It'd be impressive if it wasn't terrifying

Heard it at TJ's at around 830AM this morning, brought a tear to my eye. Thinking back for a second to when I was 11 in 1999 and first heard it and how simpler the world was, how provincial my life was, humming it to myself in the outfield at baseball practice. Couldn't even contemplate the way the future turned out. But hey, maybe the same applies for the future going forward.

I was 15 when this song came out. I was in love with it then and I am still in love with it now that I am 37. The only difference now, is that every time Robbie Williams says "Youth is wasted on the young, before you know it's come and gone too soon", it hits me real hard, because I just realized how the years went by so fast.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, now 43, I listened to Mozart constantly. She loves Mozart, but she is a big fan of Prince (modern day Mozart)) Music is sooo important in a child's life, even thought they don't know it. Both my kids, and my grandkids, are music maniacs. They love every genre of music, except jazz or country (they take after their mama). I used to hate metal, hard rock, until they started joining up with symphonies. Millennium"
We've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
    Millennium
Some say that we are players
some say that we are pawns
but we've been making money since the day that we were born
    Got to slow down,
    cause we'll low down.
    Round and round in circles
    live a life of solitude
'till we find ourselves a partner someone to relate to
    Then we slow down,
    before we fall down.
We've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
'cause we know we're falling from grace
    Millennium
    Live for liposuction
    detax for your 'rents
overdose for Christmas and give it up for Lent
My friends are all so cynical refuse to keep the faith
We all enjoy the madness 'cause we know we're gonna fade away.
We've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
'cause we know we're falling from grace

Come and have a go if you think you are hard enough

We've got stars directing our fate
and we're praying it's not too late
'cause we know we're falling from grace
    Millennium
    (Sometimes you know)
And when we come we always come too late
I often think that we were born to hate
get up and see the sarcasm in my eyes.
And when we come we always come too late

@Amsterdam 2032 early Genzies were toddlers in 1998, people born in the late 90s cannot remember anything about the beginning of the millennium or the Y2K, even the last millennials were kids in that year, so this song practically represents the era of the oldest millennials (1981-1988). The Spice girls did something similar with the song Move over (Generation next). Musical era of genzies started with Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony and the second wave of genzies is just starting in this decade with Olivia Rodrigo, etc. But if you like Robbie and you feel part of the Gen Y, no problem, we accept you.

After wondering what song those beautiful string instruments' sounds were coming from, tonight I watched "007: You Only Live Twice" and recognized them from the main theme performed by Nancy Sinatra. Then after a small research on Wikipedia, looking through the cover versions as I obviously thought it was a recent song, I found out that its instrumental base was sampled and used within Robbie William's "Millenium" and as soon as I began listening to it here on this video, I immediately recognized the sounds I used to remember. So after being desperate about not being able to find the song for years, I just discovered that I had it in my iTunes collections for all this time, under my nose, without knowing it. Incredible ... I feel satisfied now :)

Yeah, it’s not that things back then were innocent compared to today. It’s that we’re more interconnected than ever before, as a result, the truth and its gory details are now known and there’s no going back or hiding despite various attempts to seal the Pandora’s box that’s social media.

Who didn't want to be Bond? Perhaps there is a small part of each of us that still does. This song and video so beautifully, yet sarcastically provides a mirror to show what our Bond self image really looks like. It does the same for the year 2000 and our dreams of a better future. All of the elements that Robbie included from his own YOLT inspired riff, to the jet pack and Bond car make this truly British and memorable..

@@ZiomZiomCreeper I felt that way about the 60s. Everyone not at war seemed to be fighting for something with peaceful protests, ending segregation, music was still original and better than much of what's popular today, the fashion, and so on. Exciting and important times. But here we are today with peaceful protests and fighting against racism all over again. (Except with the riots and Chaz, its not all peaceful...) I doubt anyone will ever look back on 2020 and say "Boy, I sure wish I was around for that!"

Talent is something a person cannot ignore - you feel it in yourself, it is how one uses it and makes choices. I watched the doc last night; I consider Robbie a serious talent - vocally and songwriting and as a performer - but fame is a whole other beast. It is too bad humans feel fame is part of the equation, it is just the way we are built but fame is a negative aspect of having talent. You have to work very hard to control the need for fame and the results thereof. Robbie, it made me happy to see you happy at home and courageous on stage again.
